Yup, Pike Powder Hike looks to be oldest active cache in WI. It also happens to be the very first Geocache that I found. Found it in April of 2001. Back then there were only about 8 caches in Wisconsin.

I am also amazed there isn’t more interest in Cache of the Year.

While it won’t develope more interest, I think we should extend the deadline for voting.

    I probably can’t help you, I have the CHM24.

    Arn’s #1 with gold logo

The only problem I have with these ribbon designs is that they take up a lot of vertical space. If you shrink the ribbon, you lose the detail and can’t read it as easily. I think a more horizontal design would fit on the cache pages better.

    I like Arn’s #1 and #3.

I agree with Jeremy that the sand colored WGA logo on #1 should be changed. Perhaps change it to more of a gold color to match the lettering on ribbon tails.

#3 would look great if the sand colored WGA background was the same color as the yellow on the upper ribbon portion.

Bring your FRS walkie talkies. Since there is no sound system at the pub, we will be utilizing the FRS repeater system. Everyone should tune to channel 8. The repeater will help us reach from one end of the table to the other

I was also thinking of something along the lines of a ribbon or seal, however, I do like Jeremys ideas.

Here is a very rough draft of a ribbon modifying the 2nd picture Ken submitted.
Don’t laugh, it took me 10 minutes to make

I think thats a great idea!

If someone wants to draw up some possible logo ideas for “C.O.T.M” winners, submit them for us to take a look at.

Yeah, he listed her car as a Geocache. The gps on board her vehicle kept modifying the cache page with her current lat/lon. She was frustrated by hundreds of people following her around and leaving dollar store items on her bumper.

    I would retire the cache

I think any males finding the cache in the future will be nervous about bending over to pick it up.

If this area is indeed being monitored by police, it’s not fair to Geocachers to send them into suspicious looking situations.

There are some parks in the Milwaukee area that are well known homosexual pickup spots. If you drive through the park, the roads are lined parked cars, each with a lone male occupant. After meeting their new friends, these guys take to the woods to consummate their new found friendships . Police often target these areas after citizen complaints of males frolicking naked in the woods.

If this is one of those “meeting” spots, Geocachers are likely to encounter the below situations:
[*]Geocacher run-ins with police being questioned what they are doing.
[*]Encounters with suspiciuos males following them into the woods.
[*]A family of Geocachers running into a couple of guys playing nude leap frog in the woods. (try explaining that to your kids).

What, no trailer hitch and bike rack on the back of the Goldwing yet? You got everything else on that baby

in reply to: Stinky is alive and well! #1735214

I was the first Geocacher that had the pleasure to spend some time with Stinky. I picked him up from the “Lake By A Lake” cache.

Stinky has had a lot of adventures and misadventures along the way. Being one of the first travelers in the area, some people kept him as an exchange item, not knowing he was to be set free. Others took the whole cache container, with him in it.

I’m glad to hear that our bud Stinky is still alive. Hopefully he wont be dropped off in too much of a remote area. It would be great if he could circum-navigate the globe and return to Ken’s desk.

    Good travels Stinky!

Cache Cows advised me they were having some problems with the Cache Of The Month polling program. The program has some glitches that keep popping up and locking up the polling process. They are working on writing some new language for the COTM program, but are very busy with the holidays and it may take some time. Alan said it is takes a many hours to clear up the problems when they occur.

Hopefully we can get it back in operation in time for a December vote, and a Cache of the Year vote.

Regarding the poll in State Parks, my answer would be “A”.

In Waukesha COUNTY parks, my answer is: “C”

The Waukesha County Parks really pi$$ me off. It’s ridiculous to pay $3-$5 per park, per day, to enter the grounds. The cost of a yearly County sticker is too high IMHO, and Way too high for a Non-County resident sticker. The State park sticker has value, County park stickers are a SHAM!

Believe it or not, the idea of a blimp repeater came up during the initial planning of the Governor Dodge Campout. Someone even found a link to a story about wireless phone companies sending up balloons with PCS/digital repeaters on them.

I worried about the radio breaking free or the balloon crashing and konking someone on the head

I’m not quite sure what we can do to improve the antenna situation. I think that FRS radios are intentionally made with inefficient antennas.
