I agree with Zuma. Wildcat is a beautiful park. The area is heavily wooded and very green. There was a hint of color as some trees were starting to turn already, probably from stress.

This area will be absolutely beautiful if we get some early fall colors in time for the picnic.

It looks like we will have approximately 50 temp hides for the picnic. This should keep everyone busy for a few hours :).

The shelter and picnic area is very nice. It’s located on top of one of the highest parts in the park. There are two scenic overlooks near the picnic area, overlooking the Kickapoo River valley, hundreds of feet below.

    Great ! Thanks Alan.

I don’t think we should make any changes. I think the membership types are appropriate as-is.

When the “founding fathers” (myself included) wrote the bylaws, we wanted the WGA to represent WISCONSIN geocachers. We wanted to be the voice for geocachers in WI. I do not see any reason to suddenly change this.

We openly welcome anyone to use our forums an attend our events. Non-residents are welcome to participate in everything, except voting and running for office.

If someone is opposed to the term “WGA Friend”, I’d be open to changing that title. I still feel, however, that membership with voting and leadership priviledges should remain with Wisconsin residents that meet the definition in our bylaws.

This is the WISCONSIN geocaching assocation. We represent Wisconsin. We are friendly and openly welcome friends from other regions to participate. They are FRIENDS.

Cache hiding day is quickly approaching. As posted above, we plan to meet at the upper shelter, which is near N43 42.192 W90 34.795. Meeting time is at 9:00 AM. Don’t go out hiding caches until after we’ve met in the morning.

If the shelter is already reserved or occupied, we will move to a different location, AFTER we’ve met near the shelter.

Bring your FRS radios. We will be using FRS channel 7 to keep in touch throughout the day.

Plan for the weather. With the current trend, we may need rain gear, but hopefully not. If it’s hot, bring plenty of water. I’d expect a record mosquito hatch with all the standing water, so bring some bug spray.

Bring any specialized equipment you might need for hiding your cache. The events should be a showcase of creative cache ideas. Here is your chance to try something that might not last in a permanent cache environment.

We have a large assortment of small cache containers, and will provide the self-inking stamps. If you have ideas for a specialty container, PLEASE bring it along or plan to use it. This is a great opportunity to come up with some creative containers. If they can’t handle exposure to the elements until the Picnic, you can record the location on Saturday, and wait until the picnic to place the container.

We normally divide the park up into different quadrants. Everyone chooses a section of the park to focus their temps. We will have a large map that we will draw on to indicate everyone’s territory.

We will provide you with sheets to record your cache info. Once you’ve hidden your cache, record the cache info. At your convenience, bring the completed forms back to base camp. I will then enter the data into the laptop and make sure we have good separation between the caches, and they are in acceptable areas. I plan to be at the “base camp” for the majority of the day.

There will be a SNA in the park that we must avoid.

If you need my cell phone number, please send me a PM, and I’ll be glad to exchange cell phone numbers with you. I have no idea what the quality of cell coverage will be in the park.

We need a head count on who will be there. This will help us prepare the necessary materials. If you have last minute emergency and need to cancel, please let us know asap. If your schedule has opened up and you would like to help out, please let us know in this forum so you can be included on our roster.

This is the list of cache hiders so far:

      zuma
      Grousetales
      FuFu
      Hike and Seekers
      pcfrog
      Hotdogs
      lagrac
      Jeremy
      Roaming Pack
      WI Robin

Please post any questions you may have.

I look forward to a fun day with all of you this Saturday.

I called the park today. They said that all the main roads in the area are open.

Western Vernon County was hit hard, but the area around the park is not bad. The Park Employee said that if you are on main roads, you should be ok. If you are taking back roads through some of the coulee areas, you might run into blocked roads.

I don’t care what kind of container it is, just bring me to a cool location.

I see hundreds of guard rails in my daily commute, so the attraction of a beautiful guardrail has worn off with me 😉 .

We definitely need more helpers for cache hiding day. Pretty please….. 🙂

Did you have permission to have the cache’s there? If so, then I can see why you could be upset. If you didn’t obtain permission for these caches, then I’d be happy they lasted as long as they did. Without permission, GC.com must disable/archive them immediately up request.

I didn’t include our $25 for the park pass. Does that money stay in the county or go to the state?

It probably goes to the state, but for the purpose of this survey, if you spent the money in Waupaca, you can count it.

I wanted to again thank the team that helped hide temp caches and night caches. We had some really cool and creative caches this weekend. Many people went the extra mile when hiding temps. The hides were spread out in every corner of the park, which helped reduce crowding.

Thanks again for a job well done.

Also, I want to thank those who helped gather the temp caches on Sunday. They were all retrieved in a timely manner. Thanks!

I couldn’t wait to get in the shower. As one of the organizers, I had no free time to shower. I apologize to those down wind :). We all fought to get the first shower.

My youngest son spent most of his time climbing sappy pine trees. He was a real treat to get clean. I thought about taking him to the car wash to use the pressure sprayer.

No ticks for our family. We treated pants with permanone and the dog with “Frontline Plus”. No ticks on the dog either, which was a bug surprise.

I hope you folks didn’t mind me pulling your leg a little bit. I had the idea for the numbers station cache, and needed a way to share the history. There wasn’t room in the cache booklet for any explanation.

For those who didn’t attend. The “Lincolnshire Poacher” cache was a Numbers Station on a FRS radio channel. The song and numbers played at the top and bottom of the hour.

A special thanks goes out to Flushingrouse for his help, even though he couldn’t attend. Bill created the Lincolnshire Poacher sound file. Worked perrrrrfect 🙂

in reply to: Does anyone own a 1500 watt inverter? #1874308

We can disregard on the inverter. I going to pick up one of these from Cabelas tomorrow morning. The 36 cup model !!

Tie pointed out that we would need about 100 amps to run an inverter this size. This is a little excessive.

Our team will not be pulling the garlic mustard due to allergies. But I do have a dozen work gloves I can donate. Who is heading up this project?

GeoPink (Jeff), is heading up the Garlic signup.

I too am allergic to yard work 😉
