Did the mosquitoes carry anybody else away this week?
Not when you dress appropriately.
Hack1of2 score: 1
Mosquitoes score: 0

Here is an updated list of Wisconsin-based geocachers past and present that have created a pathtag. If you’re aware of any names missing let me know!

FTP in over 24 hours.
Excellent. I’ll take YOUR copy of the tag. But if you can’t “find” it, the blueprint image will be most helpful! 😉
what happened to the pic for Team DNF
I know they recently created a pathtag, but I haven’t seen it yet. It doesn’t show up on a search at pathtags.com (neither by their name nor by a tagged search of “WGA”) so it must be set to private. So I added their team name to the pathtag graphic shown above, but for now it’s blank because I don’t have visibility of what it looks like. I’ll update it hopefully soon!
So for now you could say I DNF’d Team~DNF!
I use the app Cachly to select a cache (and parking coordinates if available). While the app is navigating to the cache as the crow files in a straight line, I select on the app “Navigate to cache using Google Maps” and Google Maps will then give me an on-road route, taking into consideration traffic for the most efficient route. So I have two apps running, the Google Maps app (shown while driving) and the Cachly app. When I arrive at the destination I shut down the Google Maps app and the Cachly app remains, showing me the walking directions to the cache.
I usually message those who hold on to them about once/year.
I went through my pathtag collection (190 and counting) this week, and I apparently lost one of them that I know I had. Interesting which one it is: it was from the geocacher known as FinderzKeeperz! I hope I find it.
Here are two cachers we’ve “found” starting with a 5:
5ksearchparty (GB area)
5oles (Rhinelander area)
I had a great day on Father’s Day. Started off working on crossword puzzles, then church (no I didn’t do the crossword puzzles in church), then Culvers for lunch with Kim & Hack Jr., then a 9-hole golf scramble with Kim & Hack Jr. (2 over par), then saw a movie w Kim (Incredibles 2), then some ribeye steak at Texas Roadhouse, then we visited my mom & dad’s graves, then a quiet walk in the neighborhood, exchanging books at a Little Free Library.
Same here. Not complaining, but we had only 3 or 4 virtuals remaining in Wisconsin. We’ve found roughly half of the new ones. It’s a good problem to have. We’ve already covered the whole state for the Delorme challenge, and at a different date we covered them again for the Badger State 72 county challenge, then again for the WGA state park challenge. To a minor extent I was like “What goal should we set now that will bring us all over the state?” The KFH virtual challenge has us circulating the state once again. Not that we need a whole lot of prompting, but still.
Yup I cleaned out southern Ohio on challenge caches, surprised not to see your name John on the logs. Made a small dent on the Highway 127 Longest Power Trail, which follows the 875 mile long US Hwy 127 from Michigan to Alabama and hosts the World’s Largest Yard Sale in August.
Always great to travel a half day to meet up with a dozen Badger cachers. And yes, John has the great pics.
We found quite a few challenge caches but didn’t get them all. Saw your name on some of them. Here were our totals for the trip:
Thursday: 19 caches in IL & IN (2 TR, 9 Challenges, 1 MYS, 2 EC, 1 LBH, 4 V)
Friday: 37 caches in OH & KY (2MC, 23 Challenges, 1 EC, 1 Event, 3 LBH, 2 V, 5 WIG)
Saturday: 71 caches in OH & KY (2 TR, 1 Challenge, 36 MYS, 1 Giga, 1 V, 30 Lab)
Sunday: 23 caches in OH & KY (1 MC, 8 TR, 12 Challenges, 1 MYS, 1 V) – with a 5 hour break for church stuff 🙂
Monday: 40 caches in KY, OH, IN, & IL (4 TR, 23 Challenges, 2 MYS, 2 EC, 5 V, 4 WIG)
Plus 10 more challenge caches not listed above that we don’t qualify for yet so we can only log them with a note for now.As an aside, I wish they’d make a separate category for mystery caches vs. challenge caches. They’re really quite different!
Kids may also like keeping track of what their friends are doing. The Hamster app lets to see your friends’ logs. Yes, I’m cyberstalking everyone on here through there.
I LOVE Hamster! I’ve been using it for a few years now. There are some people who consistently write fun, witty logs, and I love to keep up with them through Hamster.
Got back late last night from North America’s first giga event. They had geocaches there!
