It took us exactly three years (Sept 2013 to Sept 2016), but this week we found #46 & #47 to complete the series!  We saved Harrington Beach for last, since we’re trailbosses for that one.  It’s a good thing we went there this week too; the cache had been moved (again) and needed repair on the “accessory” attached to the cache.

My favorites are Devils Lake, Wyalusing, and Amnicon Falls.  Well, they’re my favorites today.  On other days I might change my mind and include Rib Mtn, Rock Island, Interstate, Mirror Lake, and several others.  There’s so many great state parks to choose from and lots of great memories from them.

We’ve really REALLY enjoyed this state park series.  It’s brought us all over the state in all seasons.  Now what are we going to do? 😉

UGH!  I had it but sent it out into the wild.   I’ll probably not be seeing that one anytime soon. 😉  I now only have the gold.  If I could only go back in time…

I’m pretty stoked. Until this week, I had geocoins from every year that the WGA had issued them, except for one: 2006. It was made for the WGA campout at Peninsula State Park in 2006. Someone was actually selling an unactivated one on eBay; I could hardly believe it! Now we have a complete set. I don’t generally collect geocoins, except for WGA coins or events we’ve attended.

Just nominated 1605 OAHT Genesee Lakes. Never have come across a cache such as that.

Unfortunately it can’t win COTM yet. A cache must have been published more than 90 days prior to being nominated for COTM.”

That gives more potential finders a chance to find it so they can vote for it too.

COTM is easy enough to keep going as it nearly runs itself other than setting up the polls, making notifications and sending the banners to the winners. with the favorite points, it is easy to see what caches people find to be good/great caches in the populated areas but there really isn’t any other way other than the COTM for the out of the way super caches that take a bit of physical/mental challenge that may only be found a few times a year to be recognized. Even if there is only one vote for a cache in a zone, that doesn’t mean that the cache may not be worthy of COTM. Quite the contrary, as it may only get the recognition it deserves after it ranks in the COTM polls and people take notice.

                  Yep.

Who is signed up for the evening post?

Brewce, I’ve been enjoying your logs as you do the series.

Brewce, I’ve been enjoying your logs in the Milwaukee area. 😉

Out of curiosity, how many of you all think Cache of the Month is dead?

I think the people that win it love it.

Does it hurt to keep it? IDK.

If it goes away here’s what we have:
                        Dead Recent Logs
                        Dead COTM

                        What will replace it?

I just nominated caches in all five zones.  I encourage you all to do the same!  Of course, that means you have to have found great caches in all five zones…

As of earlier this month we’ve now cached in all 47 of the state parks, but we haven’t been to Gov Thompson SP to find the WGA cache yet.  So we have that one more WGA SP to go.  We didn’t log the one we placed at Harrington Beach SP, so that could be construed as two to go.  Heading to Gov Thompson on Labor Day weekend.

Welcome Kathy!  It’s great to see you finally join up, especially after your fun and creative hides near the WGA campout this year!

We have a Garmin Oregon 450 and a Garmin GPSMAP62S, both which work great, and a Garmin Oregon 650 which is plagued with inaccuracy.  Etrex units always seem to be reliable, as do Oregon 450 & 550 series.

I just took a peek at the picnic location.  Wow – over 200 caches within the boundaries of the park.  It looks like the Castle Mound Shelter where we’ll meet for the event is actually in the Castle Mound Pine Forest State Natural Area, which itself appears to be part of the Black River State Forest.  Not sure if Kim and I will be able to get all 200+ in just one day… 😉

For those of you not camping, the Best Western Arrowhead lodge is VERY close by.  I also noticed two classic caches from 2001 that are nearby.

                                  Shelter is at N44 17.050 W90 49.800

The nearest existing cache is GC1GAMB.
