Sorting end of the year paperwork and getting all our tax stuff together. Additionally, I’m clearing out much of the saved stuff in our file cabinets dating back to the 1980s. We really don’t need documentation from appliances we no longer have, or statements from accounts that were closed years ago. 🙂 Moreover, I’m sorting about a year’s worth of brochures, notes, letters, etc. that I conveniently place in a stack that gets attention about every year or so. Out with the old – in with the new. This time, geocaching is getting its very own drawer instead of half a drawer. It needs it; it has been overflowing for quite a while!

2012 – 1229
2013 – 1014
2014 – 1157
2015 – 1099Not counting our first full year, when we went on a 366+ day caching streak, we’ve found caches at about the same rate for the past several years, at an average of about 3 per day. I’m guessing we’ll probably have a similar amount for 2016.
I like micros, if done right. However a micro in the woods is almost always a disappointment for me. There’s plenty of room in the woods for something larger, and a lot less frustrating.

Do you realize FTP could mean “FIRST at the TOP of the PAGE” as well as FIRST TO POST.
You decide. I’ll just claim the :ftp:
Last to post!
Done with snow removal. Again. For the second time today.
OK it’s been a while since I’ve created one of these.

Merry Christmas to one and all!

Feels good to be back at it.
Here’s the windup and the pitch…
Saw the new star wars film last night. I give it a grade of “incomplete” at this point. It’s only the first of three parts. Looking forward to parts two & three.
–PRODUCT ALERT– I needed a new set of ice cleats…
I’ve bought many pairs of ice cleats over the years. They get a lot of use. Some were great; others were terrible.
The dealbreaker for me: they MUST have a top Velcro strap or a buckle if they are for a serious winter outdoor hiker. I’ve lost so many pairs (half pairs, actually) that didn’t have a strap because they would eventually slip off in the snow without me noticing it until I was back on the ice.
Most brands I’ve seen have a simple stretchy rubber to cover the heel and toe. Those are the ones I lose. Some cheapie ones are a simple band an inch or so wide with two to four spikes on the bottom. They slip off faster than a dress on prom night.
The WORST I’ve had are “Extreme Ice Cleats” by Hot Headz. They have a strap so they won’t easily slip off, but like jar42’s saga, most of the spikes broke off the first time I used them on ice. They would probably be OK for snow but not ice.
I think we’ve owned 9 pairs so far. We’ve had the best luck with YakTrax. Instead of spikes or studs, they have hundreds of steel coils and do a good job. However I much prefer the YakTrax Pro ($30), which has a Velcro strap on top, instead of the standard YaxTrax ($20), which does not have the strap.
Wow, I don’t ever recall so many milestones reached in such a tidy sequence – CONGRATS TO ALL!
