So I switched to a different map on GC.COM that shows county lines. Looks like there’s about 5 or 6 caches left that I have to get in Menominee County, MI. One is on the river. So I’ll have to wait for hard water season to get it. The rest of them, I made it a goal to get them this month as 3 of them are together in one area, two in another and the last one near me on an ATV trail. I may have to take my bicycle in for that one.
I haven’t switched maps on GC.com, but I often DO switch maps with the geocaching app on my iPhone. I use a Garmin Oregon650 as well as the geocaching.com iPhone app. If you switch to the opencycle map on the iPhone app, it shows you the trails in parks. It came in handy last week at the WGA Campout at High Cliff when following the trails.
Welcome mbrb! One type of geocache that you may not be familiar with is what is called an “event cache.”
Event caches are not physical caches; rather they are social events where geocachers meet at the designated coordinates and get credit for finding a cache (although it is actually “attending” the event cache). You can learn a lot from other cachers at these events and get to know some of the friendly folks. There’s an event cache in your area every month or two if you’re interested. The next one scheduled in Madison is happening on June 13th. The GC# is GC5TCVC.
You can see all of the event caches scheduled for the entire state at http://wi-geocaching.com/upcoming-events-map/
Congrats on earning that comma!
Something must be wrong with me. I haven’t picked up any ticks this year.
Congrats Rich & Sue on #5,100. Not bad for a Connecticut couple!
Last year we forgot to bring our sleeping bags to the campout. Let’s see if we packed everything needed this time!
I still log the old fashioned way – by typing in the GC code on GC.COM and typing my log on the computer.
I never use my phone to log caches in the field.
And I’m surprised people are still doing FTP’s even though stats are not kept anymore lol.
Todd I log almost all of my caches in the field – sort of. I use the geocaching app to log a field note, whether a found it log or a DNF. It sends it to Groundspeak as a note, waiting for me when I log online at home. When I then go to geocaching.com, all of my notes are waiting for me, in the proper order and time stamped, and then I can log each one with wordy paragraphs and pictures (if applicable). I don’t generally log a cache (other than field notes) from my phone unless it’s an FTF.
A 7-hour bump before I head to sheepshead league.
Wow…here is some useless trivia…every day this week is the same backwards…

I don’t use Flickr or Instagram so this post may not be helpful. I use Smugmug.com (which isn’t free) but really like it. To address the second part of your question, however, I generate a link for a photo at Smugmug, and at the WGA Forum when creating a post I click on “Insert Image” and >POOF< it’s in the post. Here’s an example:

That image is actually at http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-G5ZRLJm/0/S/i-G5ZRLJm-S.jpg
Incidentally, a little trick I learned from Ranger Boy – If you have an archived cache, you could make a post simply with pictures at that cache page, and then link to them. It’s another way to have free photo storage.
6 hour bump. Everyone must be out caching.
We just did a test run of our night cache for the campout. All systems go, so count us in!
Is this for 2015 or 2016?
It’s for 2015, BECAUSE Kim is putting it together! 😉

Thanks Dave – I didn’t know about the “automatically deleted” feature of reviewer notes vs. enable notes or regular notes.
