Archive a hide just so you can put a new one in the same general area? That’s called “churning”.
Todd it could be your comment is based on an incorrect understanding of the SE Wisconsin area. Many popular parks have all the good spots blocked by other caches. Around here it is preferable for many of the caches to be archived after 2 or 3 years to make room for new ones so the game can continue with quality hides. It’s a welcome happening when old caches that seemingly everybody has found and have little to no current activity are archived to make room for new caches by new hiders in the same general area. I plan to archive many of my caches in two to three years so others can hide caches in their place. Otherwise some great parks in the Milwaukee area will have almost zero caching activity. About a year ago 100 Battleship caches were archived after 2-1/2 years, freeing up many many spots and creating hiding opportunities for many new cachers including me. I think perhaps you’re thinking of situations where one archives a cache and the same person hides another one in the exact same spot. That’s not exactly what Goldie was referring to. Not only that, but in certain areas, including the Milwaukee County Park System, caches are required to be withdrawn after two years to reduce environment wear & tear, although lately they haven’t been enforcing that. 🙂
Cool, BQ posted a message in the WGA forums, way to go!
For what it’s worth I think that it’s OK for committee members to be eligible for raffle prizes. If I were on the committee (no I’m not volunteering 8) ) I would be disappointed if I weren’t allowed to win just like everyone else. In fact that would be a disincentive to helping out if I had to forfeit winning anything. After all it is volunteer work and there aren’t a lot of perks other than “thank you’s.”
When one of the cache hiders won the Magellan GPSr I was genuinely happy for him. Very fun! He put in a lot of work to hide his caches and I was real glad that chance favored him to win it rather than others. I would have been even happier for him if he won a Garmin but that’s another story. 😈
Our first was GC388YF Wauwatosa Wilderness: Holy Tree!
It’s still active. It’s in a secluded area (the “wilderness”) along the Menomonee River not far from the western edge of Milwaukee county.
It still has the most favorite votes of all of our caches; I think some of those are because we FINALLY hid a cache after 1-1/2 years of finding them. Now it’s hard to stop hiding them. 🙂
I’d like to expand on the “seven” theme. Although I’m totally fine without any forced theme, there are a lot of fun things you could do with a seven theme.
You could have each cache hider pick one of the “seven” themes. Here’s some seven-related themes that could be used for groupings of cache hides:
007/James Bond
7 Continents (This one could be really fun for creative hides)
7 Natural Wonders of the World
7 Ancient Wonders of the World
7 Natural Wonders of Wisconsin (Google it, there’s a list)
7 Man-Made Wonders of Wisconsin (Google it, there’s a list)
Snow White and the 7 dwarvesOr the cache hiders could just choose a topic consisting of seven caches with the subject of their choice.
I’m not too keen about The 7 Samurai or The Magnificent 7; most people wouldn’t be able to relate to those two movies.
Again, I’m not into the whole seven thing, not sure if I even like it, but if you’re going to go there, the above is submitted for your consideration. 🙂
8 for 8 so far 🙂

Note to self…. Don’t double and triple log LDove’s caches. [;)]
Nevada is #2 with 80 finds there from two trips. My sister has a place there just outside of Las Vegas.
Very nice!
Real brief – in my opinion the Montana is better than the Oregon 450 & 550, and the new Oregon 600 & 650 are better than the Montana. Having said that, the Montana is heavier and larger than the Oregons. That can be bad or good depending on what you would like. We were going to replace our Oregon 450 (it died) with a Montana but my wife did not like how big & heavy it was, so we went for the Oregon 650. A lot more can be said about the features but I gotta run!
4 for 4 so far, with two FTFs

If you log a find in August and then delete it (so you can relog it for September to avoid the souvenir), you’ll still be “stuck” with the souvenir.
We found that out the hard way. We accidently logged a battleship find but used the wrong battleship cache – one in Vermont instead of WI. We deleted the erroneous log and resubmitted it for the WI version, but now still have a Vermont souvenir that we didn’t earn. 😡
On the bright side we know how to acquire a souvenir for all 50 states a la armchair. 😈
We once did the 366 days in a row streak and it’s highly unlikely we’ll ever do that again. Thirty-one days in a row isn’t so bad in comparison, especially in Milwaukee where there’s 2,492 caches within 10 miles of our home. We’ll probably go for it.
I wonder if those that do get the 31 days in a row for August will continue that streak ❓
OOH! I just noticed that this is post #600 for me!
Wow 7,000 congrats! If you found one cache per day every day it would take over 19 years to find that many, that’s quote an accomplishment! And finding it in the rain makes it all the more fun! 🙂
Way to go Debby!
