Congrats Wendy!
thing, would be a real live…
Congrats on 2K and completing the BINGO. Great choice for your milestone! I wasn’t aware of that challenge cache – now it’s on the radar but we’re far from qualifying for it. I think.
It seems very appropriate that a picture was posted in this thread of your find #2,000. I love to read Sandlanders logs because they so often have pictures!
Congrats on #2,000 at a challenging challenge! 🙂
Congrats Jennifer on #200!!
We had a great time and the downpour only made it more fun and memorable! Congrats on 3,000 and thanks SO MUCH for a fantastic event!
😀 😀What great timing August, congrats!
You and I started about the same time (as did Beccaday, for that matter) and it’s been a privilege to get to know you and the youngsters. You’re amazing with all you’ve been able to accomplish with the little hippies in tow, way to go!
I hope you got pictures of the milestone!!
We always log our DNFs. We’ll take one of three different approaches when doing so:
1. Write an entertaining log, possibly with pictures, of our DNF experience :gna:
2. State very little (for us that’s two full sentences 8)) because we’re frustrated 😡
3. Write a log that is helpful to the CO and future cachers about our failure to find the cache. :):)Like some others have said, when logging a DNF we’ll usually state how long we searched, and if there was some reason we prematurely aborted. If we only spent 5 minutes searching instead of 45 minutes, we’ll state that, so that others will know that our DNF was based on only a quick search and not necessarily a thorough one.
We wanted to create a challenge cache based on 50 DNFs, but were told you can no longer create a challenge cache with those “requirements.” Maybe next April 1st we could get a reviewer from Europe to let it slip through…
What date is it being scheduled for? O_O
Congrats Mark! What a cool story about meeting the CO for #1,500!!
LOL nice little trick RB! I think most people “got” it after the first several comments were posted but some might not have figured it out. Just like a typical Ranger Boy puzzle cache! 😀
Gee if I started receiving on my wall messages every time one of my FB friends found a cache, I’d have to put them all on ignore. That would be too many messages. Be careful what info you want to share!
So far all 5 of our caches are premium member only caches. Since we live in Milwaukee county and none of our caches are micros, the likelihood of the caches getting muggled is much higher. There’s 900,000 people here in a relatively condensed area. Many of the public caches near us have disappeared or the contents have been scattered on the ground – we’ve witnessed it ourselves numerous times.
Two of our caches are challenge caches and I think if made public a lot of people would try to log finds without qualifying. In fact I have to let one cacher with 8 finds know he doesn’t qualify. 🙁 And 4 of our 5 caches have “props” with them to make the container more interesting. We fear those would disappear with the multitude of students with smartphones and free accounts in the Milwaukee area. As was pointed out by others, premium members are likely to be more responsible with the rules, trade up or trade even, use stealth when needed, and be more respectful of the environment (all of ours are in or near the woods in parks; no PnG’s).
Currently we are working on hiding a series of caches that will most likely all be public. We also may convert most of our premium-only caches to public after a year or two (except the challenge caches), expecting that at that time that they may have their unique features taken or the cache may disappear altogether. That’s not necessarily bad; it makes room for new caches to be placed by others.
Way to go Brian! As usual I appreciated the pictures too! 8)
Wow thanks Ralph – that’s very helpful! I clicked on RECENT LOGS before, but never on the tab ACTIVE CACHES. Recent caches doesn’t give me info that I have much use for, but active caches does!
I hear the position pays twice as much as being a board member … 8)
