  • I hate to see caches get archived, especially good ones, but they seem a little too far for me to be able to guarantee taking care of.

in reply to: Are you still interested in serving on the Board? #2057772

I always try to stay committed to my commitments, so absolutely.Ā  Thanks for posting another question.Ā  I personally am looking forward to whomever the board will be comprised of.Ā  Good luck to all, and cache on my friends.

Why should you vote for me?

Well, I was recently asked this question, and to be honest I don’t have a good answer. Ā Seems like a short statement maybe something that rhymes or rolls off the tongue would be perfect. Ā I don’t have that though.Ā  Doesn’t sound promising does it.Ā  I’ll be honest, I’m not sure that I’m even a better nominee than anyone else running.Ā  I’ve been reading what some of them posted on the forums and thought, ā€œWhy didn’t I think of thatā€.Ā  I was nominated and that’s cool, thank you to all that nominated me.Ā  I’m not a politician and wouldn’t want to be, with that said I don’t have to throw out a bunch of empty promises that may never come true.Ā

So what promises can I make?Ā  Well I don’t rush into anything half (you know what).Ā  If somethings worth doing, it’s worth doing well.Ā  I think that is apparent in any of my caches that I have placed and maintained.Ā  Some of you may know me, I’m kind of quiet until you get to know me.Ā  I’m honest, professional, kind, smart, a good team member, that can listen as well as contribute.Ā  I work hard to maintain my commitments.Ā  I try to think before I speak.Ā  And I believe in the importance of good representatives making the Wisconsin Geocaching Association great.Ā  As a BOD member I would take concerns from the WGA members and pass them onto the board, and hopefully improve on the issue.Ā  If we can’t I’ll let you know.Ā  Obviously not everyone can have everything they want all the time.Ā  There are certain functions that the board takes care of such as merchandising, setting up events, and sponsoring other events.Ā  Again, I don’t take my commitments lightly.Ā  I don’t think anyone runs for notoriety or public acknowledgement, I think it’s a thankless job that’s got to get done.Ā  And I am willing to do what needs to get done.Ā  Now I am starting to sound like a politician.Ā  What I’m trying to say, is that when someone needs to sit down and figure out how many t-shirts we should order, or we need someone to show up early and set up for an event, or pick up garbage afterwards, or make phone calls to line up events, or throw out ideas for or against something, I’ll do it.

I don’t have any complaints about the way things are run now, yeah there’s some things that would be great IF we could improve on them.Ā  But I don’t think anyone on the board has done a terrible job and needs to be replaced.

So why should you vote for me?Ā  I guess because I’m a decent guy that will do his best as a board member representing the members of the WGA.

in reply to: Candidate Question – Adaptation #2057589

I believe, that I am personally very adaptable.Ā  I see a board position as being something that needs to represent the needs of the group as a whole, and assist in steering it towards a destination, while keeping it from certain situations that would cause negative connotations.Ā  I don’t see a problem being that person.Ā  In my career as a Master Electrician, there have been many times when someone has an idea of a shortcut; but that shortcut simply isn’t allowed per the code.Ā  It would be my job to bring that fact up and push the project into a slightly different direction, one which follows the code and still accomplishes the end result.Ā  There are certain mottos or mission statements, that the WGA follows.Ā  It would be everyone on the boards place to make sure all ideas are in alignment to those as well as the end goal.

One of the things that seem to be an issue right now, based on what I have seen through these forums, is the Social Media aspect and the lack of a user friendly website.Ā  Now I’m not sure that either of these things can be improved upon, I suspect to improve on the site, we would need a webpage programmer to spend a lot of resources to accomplish that goal, resources, that we simply may not have.

in reply to: Candidate Question- storage of assets #2057588

Unfortunately, we have a very small yard, and we store a popup camper next to the garage.Ā  There wouldn’t be enough room for the trailer.Ā  Any other assets possibly could be stored in the basement or the garage.Ā  But I would think that storage wouldn’t be that big of a deal to find a safe spot for the trailer, we have lots of members, I’m sure someone has an empty spot that wouldn’t mind storing a trailer.

I already conduct myself with professionalism, maturity, and dignity. Ā I don’t see any problems moving forward if I am a board member.

in reply to: Would you turn away help? #2057486

My first thought was, “I guess we’d have to deal with it on a case by case basis.”Ā  But I don’t know that that really matters either.Ā  Are any of the board members scrutinized?Ā  Do we know if they were bank robbers in a past life?Ā  I doubt it.Ā  I rarely turn away help.Ā  I think that we have to assume that people are inherently good and that they won’t steal, and will wash their hands.Ā  Now if that seems too laid back, I suppose we could hire a Money truck and a couple armed guards…Ā  And if someone’s willing to stand over the hot griddle for an hour or two turning out perfect pancakes, then more power to them.

in reply to: Candidate Question- Events #2057470

What do you believe are the BODs responsibilities at events both WGA events, WGA sponsored events and events hosted by othersĀ  ( both WGA members and non-members)

I believe that as board members, first and foremost we should polite, professional and mature.Ā  Secondly live the motto of the WGA, including mission statements and the like.Ā  Thirdly and more to your point, I think at WGA or sponsored events, it should be all hands on deck.Ā  Im thinking of the upcoming chilli feed event.Ā  Although, some events like Cache Bash, I think it would be too much to ask for all board members to be there all day, working.Ā  After all, all work and no play makes Johnny very…Ā  As far as non WGA events, I think the first 2 points and not the third.Ā  I have hosted a few events, and never expected help from anyone, board members or not.Ā  If I’m going to create an event, then I’m going to take on that challenge myself or ask others, but I wouldn’t expect them to be forced.

I have had a computer for the last 20 years, while I haven’t used some of the latest and greatest stuff like Google Hangout, I’ve been using FB for a while, created many cache pages, and have above average communication skills.Ā  I do type, not the fastest, but I can get the job done.

in reply to: Candidate Question – Experience #2057468

Well, I’ve never sat as a board member.Ā  I am a critical thinker, I find logic very useful.Ā  In my career, I have worked in positions of management, as well as being part of a small or large group working toward a common goal.Ā  I believe that when everyone works together great things can happen.
