I think my greatest strength is being a logical thinker. My greatest weakness would be the uncertainty of being a board member.

My opinion is that the forums on WGA site are pretty basic. I’m not complaining, and I gather from reading above that it is something that will be difficult to perfect. I use facebook, but that seems limiting in some ways too. I’m not a social media aficionado, but I think it’s great that you brought it up. Keep the ideas coming.

Im a big fan of caches that take you somewhere new, and are not P&G’s. For me my all time fav is GC2R5DJ Tributary | Adventuring Walk. This was a classic, lots of walking, lots of fresh air, a completely unique puzzle to solve (at least for me), an awesome final. That adventure conjures up a ton of memories. Thats what its about for me, making memories and going on adventures.

I couldn’t agree more sir. But aside from outlawing Park and Grabs, plan B maybe would be to cultivate a culture of quality over quantity. Recently a few cachers started placing caches as part of a Making Geocaching Great Again series. Ultimately, the culture comes from the members. But to answer your question of what can the board do to help? I think one thing that the board does well is that it usually recruits quality cache hiders for the large events that it is part of. Another thing that I believe helps, is that the COTM. Highlighting some outstanding caches helps build this culture.

Good questions Chris, I try to keep an open mind when others have new or differing ideas. Likewise, if my idea isn’t chosen, that’s fine. The other ideas was probably better, and if it was, I’d vote for that too. I do think it’s important to look at all aspects of opinions including the good, the bad and the ugly. How will this idea affect others? Does it follow our Associations core values. In the end, if my idea isn’t chosen, it won’t bother me. I have more concern for the group than I do for my personal arrogance.
Next question, I hate doing dishes…Don’t mind loading the dishwasher though. Of course this hatred doesn’t keep me from this chore at home. Sometimes the dishes just aren’t dishwasher safe. Regarding this and other chores like typing event pages, I don’t mind doing what needs to be done. I see being on the board as an opportunity to give back to the community. I have no problem making some sacrifices for the whole of our group.
Regarding your last question, I enjoy operating out of my comfort zone a little. It’s how we grow as humans. But public speaking…remember when Pixiestix13 and I hosted the LCG event at Bubolz?…say as little as necessary and introduce the president, let them do the heavy talking.

Thanks for bringing this up. In my time cachin’, I sadly can only remember one CITO event that I was able to attend. It was a fair amount of work of course, but it was worth it. I guess to answer your question, I don’t know if it should be in the mission statement, maybe that’s a question for the masses to decide. Unfortunately, as well, I didn’t realize the mission statement had changed.
To me I see a lot of value in giving back. Just as there wouldn’t be any caches for us to find if someone didn’t place them; we wouldn’t have a decent green space to play in, if someone didn’t help out in cleaning it up.

I also don’t think I have a spirit animal, sorry.

Truly I enjoy both. Who doesn’t enjoy the hunt of a geocache? Combining satellite technology, cruising around our great outdoors, what’s not to love. So what’s to love about hiding a cache? It’s a real pleasure when you read someone’s well written log. A long time ago, after complaining about too many geocaches not being maintained, I realized that if there weren’t people putting caches out, there wouldn’t be any geocaches for me to find.
Over the years, I have placed some caches, hosted some events, helped others host events, and enjoyed many events. I’ve hidden, a puzzle cache, we have a simple gadget cache in out front yard, placed some easy caches and some tougher to get to caches.

I officially started caching back in 2010, my wife Kathy (Mrs. Ham Fam) and our daughter were at a science fair in Green Bay. As we were moving from table to table checking out all the cool stuff, we came across, someone’s table that was all about geocaching. They had a Google map printout showing all the caches that were around, it was pretty cool. So we grabbed a map, and a few weeks later we were on the hunt. Unfortunately, we never found the first handful of caches, later we found out there were missing. That coupled with the automotive GPS, that we were trying to cache with, left a lot to be desired. Fast forward a few years, we finally got a handheld GPS, and then we started finding more caches. Although we only found like 6 in the first 2-3 years, we started finding more. And we still enjoy finding caches today.
I’ve been to a couple of Cache Ba$hes, last year and the year before. This past year, we upgraded our pop-up camper and made it to our first WGA spring campout, we also made it to the Fall picnic. A few years back I and Pixiestix13, hosted the WGA LCG event at Bubolz Nature Preserve. I always enjoy catching up with old friends and meeting new ones.

I see you’ve already been sold on the purchase. But I didn’t see the best reason posted yet…”everyone’s doing it”.

So for now, I’ll just shoot my questions out here, for lack of a better target.
- How many top “lonely cachers” are typically nominated? 5?
- Just to confirm we are looking at Jan. 1 2015 to Jan. 1 2016?
