People in Wisconsin can’t say ‘bagel’, apparently.

I lived in New England for some time. In the north east, you’re really never more than a couple blocks from the nearest Dunkin Donuts. (For those who dont know, Dunkies has THE BEST bagel sandwiches.)

I’d go in there, order a “Sausage, Egg & Cheese on a plain bagel.” The clerk would look at me funny and say, “a sausage, egg & cheese on a what?”

    “A plain bagel”

    “What’s that?,” she’d say.

    …..

This has happened to me dozens of times. Even if I am saying the word bagel wrong, wouldn’t you think it would have to sound at least remotely to similar to the word I’m intending to say?

And if I am indeed saying bagel wrong, what food items do they sell at Dunkin Donuts that my mispronounced version of bagel could possibly be mistaken for? For 9 years I’ve been trying to answer this very question.

No one in Wisconsin has ever questioned me about my pronunciation of the word bagel. In fact, the way I say bagel sounds just like the way everyone else says bagel. I’ve concluded that everyone in Wisconsin pronounces the word bagel wrong.

I must point out, it isn’t just in the North east where people react strangely to my pronunciation of bagel. I’ve gotten the same reaction from a friend of mine in Idaho, and another from southern California, and a few more from Las Vegas.

So you’re wondering (and so am I), how does the rest of the English-speaking population of the United States pronounce bagel?
To me, it doesn’t sound any different from the way people in Wisconsin say bagel.

Not only are they a bargain for just a $buck, they come with free matches!
I’ve got a zip-loc baggie full of ’em.

Have you noticed the built-in flint glued to the bottom of the containers?

I clicked on the name on the cache page. I don’t know how else to break this to you, but that’s not The Lil Otter’s profile.

    No, I changed them both.

Here’s the original if you want to see it.
I, too, tested them using solvers and found unique solutions.
The one on the left is the one with multiple solves, apparently. (I still don’t see it)

How does not having a geochecker stop anyone from giving the final coords away?

It doesn’t, but it’s obviously slowing him down.
The cacher we’re talking about here drove right past this cache, grabbing one other less than a half mile down the road. As far as I know, he didn’t even make an attempt at the sudoku cache.

I can’t speak for everyone, but a lot of cachers will not attemp to find a puzzle type cache in another city without some verification. Local cachers might know of a location seems reasonable. Out-of-towners will have much less of an idea if a spot is private property, etc.

If a person wants verification bad enough, they can easily visit a solver site such as http://www.sudokusolver.co.uk/

I have no idea how people got multiple solutions out of it. I checked out the puzzles before posting them and was unable to get multiple solutions.

One person even said the solutions were so close together it didn’t make much of a difference either way. The “beacon” might as well have been spray painted orange or have flashing yellow lights fixed to it.. Or a neon sign with an arrow pointing downward, “Geocache Here”.

Given the terrain rating of the cache, I expect it to be pretty obvious. can anyone say guardrail cache?.

    in reply to: harassment #1930732

Part of the reason I don’t want a checker on there, is, even though it’s just a simple suduko, I’d prefer the solution doesn’t get exchanged to a bunch of “touring” cachers.

It’s funny, really, how a game with no winners can have so many pathetic losers who CHEAT. I won’t tolerate them, and I won’t go out of my way to make their lives easier.

If he’s done it 4 times and after I’d say it’s harassment.

Lets hope you come across my coin then.

    So far Aliens are winning.
I have an alien geocoin that I’m asking finders of to take pictures of aliens, ufo’s and crop circles.

Would be pretty cool to get a picture of an alien caught in the act of stealing a geocache.

    The coin looks like this

Ya, forgot bears, raccoons, badgers, squirrels, chipmunks…

    Squirrels and Chipmunks are rodents.

Why isn’t Bigfoot on this list?

I’ll never forget the cache I found that had been chewed on and opened by a bigfoot. This cache was found tampered with by bigfoot 3 times in the span of about a month.

Do you notice how most of us aren’t listing our full GC numbers? Is there something identity thieves can do with your GC number if they know it? 🙄 😉

I was going to comment on the exact same thing yesterday. It’s not like you’re giving out credit card numbers, Social Security numbers or ATM pins.

And this one from Sherwood Forest GC13T8Y

We walked in to the area our GPSr was suggesting, and by flashlight, lots of pushing of snow and poking and prodding were done. Trekkin’ had his winter caching secret weapon, and had actually looked very close to the hiding area once, but it took NoSnow to turn over one more thing to find this very well-hidden cache.

These are just a few example, but there are many more.
After they found Heap of Old Garbage, I read about the Secret Weapon and had to go up there to see if I could figure out what it was. They may have left foot prints in the snow, but no other clues.
