I just saw WisKid’s archival note.

The cache may still be retrievable.
The sign says entrance may be granted by the Installation Commander.
It may take just a phone call and possibly a GCU geocaching brochure and this cache could be out of there.

I’d be up for the job as long as there’s a free ammo can in it for me. 🙂

I got a crisp five dollar bill for anyone willing to place a 444 cache power trail in Wood county. 🙂

I just dug a really neat geocoin out of the bottom of a cache that hasn’t been logged in a year. The last log was June 2009, and the coins location was “In the hands of”. I expected it to be a stray coin because it wasn’t listed in the cache contents.

The whole ride home I was like, “Im gonna be a hero, I’m gonna be hero.”
Some geocoin owner would have been thrilled that their coin finally turned up after being missing for so long.

I looked at the coin owner’s profile and saw they haven’t logged on to geocaching.com in almost as long. I’m not a hero, at least not today. But I’m still thrilled to be able to move this coin along.

The picture (posted above) which I took yesterday is the gate near the intersection of 20th Ave and 3rd Street.

This dirt road, looking west, IS 3rd street.

The CO (who hasn’t logged onto GC.com in years) says it’s on public hunting land.

    I don’t believe that.
I’m the second person who’s made an NA log in the last few weeks.

    Can anyone say Cache Rescue?

a cache I DNF’d long ago in the winter and have yet to return to make the find.

Get out there and do it. This one was a ton of fun. And the water is plenty warm already. You could swim to Spider Island if you wanted to. Swimming would probably be a lot faster than the route I took.

And for the record, I didn’t see any spiders. A few spider webs, but no spiders. I hate spiders, I really do. But while I was driving out here, I was trying to think of why this place would have more spiders on it than any other place. I couldn’t think of any good explanation, and decided it was just some myth.

For #444, I need some kind of Quad ATV cache. That would be appropriate.

My friend Eric (Team Mulligan) first introduced me to the sport in 2004. He used to tell me all about it, but since I lived 1200 miles away (I lived in Connecticut at the time), Eric and I never got the chance to go geocaching together.

Back out east, though.. I learned that my friend Andrew (another submariner on my boat) was an avid Geocacher. This was in 2005.
Andrew and I searched out a couple hundred finds together, although he had over a thousand to his name. I was pretty much a tag-along helper kinda guy. Not too serious into the sport.
Together, we found caches in CT, RI, MA, NH and ME.

I didn’t get my own Geocaching account until way later, and even then I only logged a handful of finds that I found with my friend Andrew.

My old account is long lost. I forgot my user name, and even the email address I used to create the account. There was no chance of recovering it.

In November of 2009 (I forgot what I was doing at the time), but I got bored. I was flipping through the TV channels and couldn’t find anything to watch. I thought, “I know, I’ll go geocaching!”.

So I went onto GC.com, created an account, and seeked out a handful of caches in the area.

    Thats my story.

It’s because I’m afraid of the dark.

So the Babcock cache — the one I was 100 feet away that I bailed on a FTF opportunity — contained a chance for me to win a geocoin?

in reply to: FTF to total finds ratio #1929836

I have 20 FTFs out of 326 total. Thats one FTF out of every 16.3 caches. I’m fortunate to live in an area where FTF competition isn’t all that stiff. (Unlike Wausau)

BigJim60 and 2nd Time Around are my only competition.
BigJim is at the greatest advantage, though. He is in a centralized location between Marshfield, Rapids and Point, so that obviously works out to his advantage for the Marshfield caches.

Anyone else find it ironic that Northern Highlands Community Foundation who is supposedly all about GIVING is holding an event recognizing an individual who was all about STEALING?

We must agree that the first line of the song is now “across from Home Depot”, not “across from the depot.” Thats how I’ve been singing it.

Any song with a reference to Home Depot is a hit in my book.

    I’ve been practicing, too.

I’ve got good news & bad news, though. The bad news is the song is played in 3/4 time. The good news is, I can’t sing & play (only play) anything in 3/4, so you’re all saved.

The song is incredibly easy to play. Remembering the lyrics is proving to be the hard part.

I see you’ve already found Sparky007’s Sandy Creek series. That would have been my recommendation. There are at least 15 caches there all within walking distance.

One of these days I’m going to go out by Black River Falls.
I was browsing the map, when this jumped out at me. A big cluster of caches in a small area. In the shape of a smiley face. Some time in June I’d like to go out there (if anyone wants to join me)

Heres one of those caches if you need help finding the area: GC1HCM6
