This is a very sensitive subject matter, obviously. Its almost taboo to ask such a question. If the log was by a new cacher with far fewer finds, the decision would be easier.

My cache is in a a tricky location. Terrain difficulty could vary between 2.5 or almost 4 all because of 3 or 4 inches this way or that based on how the previous finder rehides it.

I did go check on the cache immediately afterwards, and I have no doubt the cacher physically located it. I did move the container a few inches back to make it better accessible to more cachers.

If it weren’t for others documenting their own milestones and achievements in their logs and on their profile pages, I’d be less motivated to go out and achieve my own milestones. I’m probably not alone here.

Please think about that before you decide to pull the list of achievements from your profile page.

    And no, it isn’t bragging.

Lyme disease is named for Lyme, Connecticut. supposedly there are a lot of deer ticks in Lyme, CT.
I used to live less than 10 miles from Lyme, CT. I wouldn’t say they have a tick problem over there by any means. In the years I lived in southeastern CT, I only found 1 tick.. And it wasn’t even a deer tick.

    in reply to: TICKS #1926679

I pulled 16 of them off me the other day.

I went caching today, circling around Lake Petenwell, found several more.
I now make it a point to look down at my pant legs periodically, flicking away any ticks as soon as I notice them..
Most ticks that have climbed onto your body climbed on at a point below the knees. All those ticks you find on your back or your chest– chances are they climbed up there from down by your knees

And now to clear up some common Misconceptions about ticks:
    Ticks can not fly
    Ticks can not jump
    Rarely do ticks inhabit trees

The hang out in the grass or in brush, waiting for a potential host to climb onto. Ticks don’t come to you, they wait for a host to come to them.

With all those much larger geocache containers, my ammo can is starting to feel a little inadequate, even though its roughly the size of a microwave.

    😯

probably for those 120mm tank rounds, Im guessing.

I think I’ll have a hard enough time finding a hiding place in the woods for this one.

    Phony Sony

Thats really unfortunate. Lets hope my Nintendo controller lasts a little longer than yours.

    The Konami/ Contra Code 🙂

You may notice that nowhere on this TB does it say “Nintendo”. This is a new Chinese reproduction. I wouldn’t dare hack apart a genuine controller.

I cut off the cord and glued the TB tag to the back using JB Weld. I think it should hold. I may still put a screw through it for added security.

My idea is that people who used to have a Nintendo back in 1985 should be able to pick up this TB and mash the buttons in (or input the contra code for 30 lives 😉 ) I’m hoping it should bring back a lot of good memories for a lot of people.

I didn’t find Dartt’s treasure. But I do believe I found a hole that was dug by a person looking for said treasure. The hole was covered by a bunch of leaves and I managed to find it with my foot.

Take all your stuff in one trip?? We’ve been doing this for 4 or 5 years and we still haven’t gotten all our gear to the site in one trip! But there are plenty of hands and carts to help haul everyone’s stuff.

But you still only make one (round) trip between Washington and Rock Island, correct? That’s the part I’m most worried about.

What you mean by “trip” is the walk between the point the boat drops you off and the camp site, correct?
And there are carts– thats a good thing. What about carts for people to use to haul things from their vehicle to the boat?

Would this be a good place to bring a kayak to go paddling around the island?

    Thanks Sandlanders..

And what a spectacular cache that was…
High above the surrounding treetops. There is about 130 or 140 feet of local relief at this mound. and it is a STEEP, STEEP hike.

I had to go a little out of the way to grab this cache on my way back from Marshfield. For my 200th find today, I wanted a cache that was unique and a little more challenging than most. This seldom visited cache out near the middle of nowhere looked like a good candidate.

There are mounds to the west of Dartt Mound that are higher than this one, but to the best of my knowledge, there are no geocaches sitting at the top of them.

Anyone travelling around central Wisconsin, this little cache in eastern Clark County is worth going out of the way for. The hike is short and the find was simple, but the experience of climbing this little mound was great.

Just a few weeks ago, after my 100th find, someone commented that my next 100 won’t take quite as long. Boy, they sure weren’t kidding! Only took me two weeks and a day to find 101-200.

Oh, and there is no more “time off” for me. Spring break is over and its back to being a full-time student. 😉

We could meet somewhere to show you them

Possibly. Scout might be in a better position to make that happen considering he lives in Milwaukee. I’m a couple hours from you..

I dont have tickets yet, but I intend to go to Milwaukee at least a few times this summer to attend some Brewers games.. before I come down I’ll shoot you a pm first to make arrangements.

I’m not exactly sure what I’ll do with all these geocoins.. I wouldnt consider them investments..

..maybe my money might be better invested in baseball & football cards.. 8)

in reply to: 2010 Rock Island Getaway VI #1910956

I logged that I will attend.
It will be my first geocaching event unless of course I attend another event between now and then. I’ve never even been to Door County before so I’m pretty excited about being able to use this opportunity to go.

I’d be bringing only myself, and of course whatever else I can drag or carry to the island, I assume.

I’ve never camped at a group site before so I’m a little unsure of the “accomidations”. In how close proximity will everyone be camping from each other?

One thing I’m worrying about, is how much do I need to bring.
Of course I plan on bringing my own tent and cooler for food & drinks, but should I worry about bringing along the other camping essentials such as a camp stove or might only a few people bring camp stoves to share?
I worry that if I have too much stuff I might not be able to carry it on to the island all in one trip.

I’ve stumbled on a few of those sites online. So far I’ve only bought 2 coins on eBay.

I thought I’d ask here, perhaps someone wants to thin their collection.
    support the local economy…
Maybe someone has a nice “personal” coin they’d sell me.

I think a small collection of 6 or 7 nice coins should be good for me right now.
