Supposedly the tower was built in 1935.
There used to be a fur ranch where they raised silver foxes. The tower was used as a watch tower, to protect the ranch from thieves interested in stealing their foxes.

I guess silver foxes are worth a lot of money.

    This one:

Or this: rather than writing a note on your cache description page, put a note in the actual cache about how you feel about busload caching. They may get the idea.

Depends on what you mean by “bus load”.
GC can be, and is, a team game after all.

There’s no way to enforce it, but there might be a way to make them feel bad about doing it.

You know how there are terms for different types of geocachers? Some are armchair or phantom cachers, your FTF hounds, then you’ve got your numbers chasers, and muggles (non cachers), and whatever other terms might be out there.

How ’bout you call bus load cachers “Parasite Cachers”? Once they finally recognize themselves as being Parasite Cachers they may eventually feel a little shameful of their actions, and just stop being a caching parasite.

Here’s another idea: For your puzzle caches, put a note in there saying, “Caching groups of 4 or more, please, only 1 log for your entire group.”

would that be an ALR? Or could that be more appropriately called a NOT-LR?

Fog lights. I Do know the difference, and they’re not on at all times.
Daytime running lights don’t bother me.

    Fog Lights:
If it isn’t foggy, turn your fog lights off. And it’s one or the other, not both.

    People talking in libraries:
Not too many years ago, the quiet policy in libraries was respected and enforced. That is no longer the case.
It’s a place to read and study, it’s not a place for you to hang out with your friends. Go to a coffee shop or a bookstore if thats what you want. This is still a library!
Just because there is a row of computers with internet access in libraries does not make it ok to read outloud to your neighbor the funny facebook status your friend wrote on your “wall”.
And when you’re in the library, either turn your cell phone off or leave it at home.

People who scratch off lottery tickets on the counter at the gas station
How many times has this happened to you?
Not only does it take them forever to decided WHICH scratch off lottery tickets they want to buy (2 of those, 4 of those, 3 of them, 1 of that) They stand there at the counter and scratch them off while there is a line behind them.

    Here or To Go
Please don’t assume that just because I walked into McDonalds alone it does not mean it’s ok for you to give me my food in a bag as if I wanted it “to go” without asking me first.

    My change
First of all, whatever happened to COUNTING my change in front of me so I know I’m not getting ripped off because of your inability to do basic math?
And whats up with trying to give me the bills and the coins all in the same handful? Is that so the coins can fly all over the place?
If you really want to piss me off, wait until I go through the drive through. In that case, please try and hand me my beverage AND my change in the same handful so that everything can fall on the ground.

People who still write checks at the store
It’s 2010, yet there are people who still don’t understand the conveniences of a check card or debit card. The money comes out of the exact same account!
Checks still have their place in society. (Paying bills, for example) but not in line at the grocery store.
In case you do feel the need to write a check at the grocery store ESPECIALLY IN THE EXPRESS LANE, please, while you’re waiting in line, you can do EVERYONE a favor by filling out the basic information such as the name, date, etc. ahead of time.

    Traffic/ Driving Pet Peeves:

People who pass you on the road, only to turn off at the next intersection.
Congratulations! you just saved yourself .08 seconds of your very valuable time. You’re welcome.

People who accelerate as you try to pass them. If you were unaware that you were going slow, when I’m along side you on a 2 lane road is NOT the time to try and make up for it.

People who insists on driving exactly 5 mph slower on a STRAIGHT ROAD just because it snowed a little. 5 mph will not make a difference as to whether your car spins out of control or not. If you’re going to drive slow, please drive really slow so it’s easier for the long line of bunched up traffic to pass you. Or better yet, just pull over to the side of the road every once in a while so we can all get around.

Turn Signal THEN brake, not the other way around. And 100′ + is not too soon to use your turn signal. 200′ would be better. 500′ or more when your speed is 50mph or faster.

If you’d like to see a cool cemetery, and you can make it out to the east coast, be sure to visit the Granary burial ground in Boston, located next door to the Boston Common.

    The cemetery is very small.
Buried there is Samuel Adams, Paul Revere, John Hancock, the parents of Ben Franklin, Mother Goose, and the victims of the Boston Massacre, and a bunch of other people of historical significance.

One of the first things I did after unboxing the Colorado was updated the firmware. Im on v3.20

Yesterday, after powering it on, I noticed that the altimeter data was indicating that I had ascended about 800 feet, from my base (home) elevation of 1020 feet ASL, saying I was at 1800 feet.

I realize changing weather will affect altimeter data, but not 800 feet worth.
If it happens again, I’ll report the issue to Garmin to determine if I have a defective unit.

I just installed the Wisconsin Topo map. What a difference that makes.

I loaded the white background images on my Colorado today. There is a slight improvement when viewing the menu tiles.

I don’t like the white background on the Compass screen because the compass is also white. The compass doesn’t stand out.

Yep. I’ve got a Nuvi, too. I take my Nuvi everywhere I go, or should I say my Nuvi takes me every where it goes?

I bought my Nuvi 200 sometime in 2007. It’s been pretty good.
The only problem I really have with the Nuvi is that (since it’s a couple years old) I get an annoying message at startup that says something like,
“Your map is over a year old. Insert $100 here to remove this annoying message for 12 months”

The main reason I’d like a street map on my Colorado is for when viewing caches on the map. It’d be good to reference the location of caches and get a good way to figure out exactly where they are before attempting to drive over there.

Got it. 500 caches loaded. This should keep me busy for at least a day or two. 😀

    Now Im golden.

in reply to: Pocket Queries help #1921999

I ran another one.. 2.5MB.. That seems a little more like it. Trying this again.

in reply to: Pocket Queries help #1921998

I take that back about having a map full of cache icons. Not the case.

The ones I have on my map are the ones I manually sent to my GPS using the “send to GPS” button.

I’ve downloaded and extracted the GPX file from my email, put it in the GPX folder on the garmin drive…

What doesn’t seem right about the file is that it reads as 0 bytes, and my GPSr doesn’t seem to be making use of it.
