I’m sorry, handicapped or not, if the best place you can find to put a cache is someone’s front yard, that is really sad. And yes the space between the sidewalk and road is someone’s front yard. While it’s true the public may have an easement to it, that doesn’t give me the individual right to put a geocache there any more than it does to set up a tent and have a picnic.
Well said, thats exactly what I was thinking after reading this thread. Also skimming over this thread it seems most people who don’t like these types of hides place them on their ignore list. Great! but thats only available to premium members.
I don’t geocache very often anymore but when I do I pretty much avoid anything in town thats not in a park or near some public landmark, just because people place caches like this…. This is just inconsiderate to the neighbors & keeps police from doing real work having to deal with “a strange person in my yard” type calls.

MemberThe water isn’t high right now, you should have no problem accessing the cave. The entrance is right at river level, so it doesn’t take much of a rain to make things muddy or under water.

MemberI don’t think you need to have gsak create a folder, the error you are receiving sounds like you just need to tell gsak a different place to save/create the gpx file. I have seen this error if you delete/move the folder you had setup gsak to save to.
To create a GPX select file menu, Export, GPX/Loc file.

In the next box that opens you need to change where GSAK saves the file by clicking the little folder next to file name.

Best bet just save the file to your computer desktop since it will make it easier to find & email to someone later. do this by using the drop-down menu at the top of this box & selecting desktop. In the bottom of this box also enter a name for the file you want to create. When finished setting it up click the open button.

This will bring you back to the second image window, all you need to do then is click generate at the bottom.

MemberI was wondering if anyone had tried making custom maps for their oregon? check out the info here, looks pretty amazing.

or

I seen this screenshot on another forum and was wondering if garmin has added this compass/map combo option for navigation? I still use a 60Cx & always switch between the two, having both on one would be very nice!

MemberTwo I can think of right now, both are indoor/outdoor.
New Glarus Depot (GC1R9AM) & Welcome to Green County! (GC1QD9B).

So how do you give them as gifts??? Don’t you need to enter the license number and vehicle info?
That would be a great FTF prize 😉
I was thinking the same thing.

Think I have my issue worked out. I turned off automatic Windows update about a year ago, and removed all the previous patches and updates. My computer ran a whole lot better after doing it. Now though, someone gained access and it had to be when I was on the PC because it’s always powered down when not in use. Not just powered down, but the power strip is turned off too.
I fix computers everyday & will guarantee you are right, they gained access because you are running an unpatched system. I recently read over 80% of virus & malware can be avoided by just getting all current windows updates(& software updates). This figure seems pretty accurate from my experience, If I get a PC with all updates it rarely has tons of Virus/malware/security issues.
At this point having run without all updates for so long I wouldn’t trust that PC at all without totally formatting and reinstalling windows. You’ll never know if you get all the holes patched & probably have some deeply embedded root-kit infection.
My only question is, why do you think someone had gained access to your PC?

MemberPersonally I would never trust a software firewall as my only firewall protecting me online. Malware can disable most software firewalls or add hidden exceptions in seconds.
I would add a wired/wireless router just for the added hardware firewall. Software firewall is still needed though, to protect your pc from another computer on the network infecting it, this is especially true if you have a laptop you use at other locations. An example would be if you use your laptop at a public hotspot without a software firewall & get a virus, you bring it home & infect all your home computers as soon as you connect to your network. If you use a wireless router I would disable the wireless unless you actually need it, otherwise use WPA(AES) or WPA2 personal encryption with a long password that includes random letters & numbers to avoid any dictionary type attach on your network.
You would be surprised how quickly wireless security can be bypassed if you don’t use a good password.hogrod
MemberFor anyone doing any snowmobiling you should check out the trail maps here: http://gpssledmaps.com/maps/wi.php
I have both the free transparent maps & the pay version of WI. I actually prefer the transparent version(free) so I can use it at the same time as my WI topo maps or City Navigator maps on my 60Cx.
hogrod
MemberYou can use the program FizzyCalc (free) to do this for you. once you have the program I believe what you are looking for is under the distance tab.

That’s a heck of a price. But you NEVER hear about them.
I’ve never heard anything good anyway. Look around online, they have lots of issues & mediocre reviews. I was always interested in this unit & was disappointed with all the issues all the bushnell units have.
hogrod
MemberAccording to ram mount, it uses the same cradle as the 60csx. Never having held one of these units but by looking at photos, it looks like its the exact same shape as the 60csx only longer.

Sorry to hear about the trouble, and I realize that you’re probably just venting, but I think it’s unlikely that the culprit reads these forums. I could be wrong…
Actually since more than one of his caches has been hit, I would suspect it would be a person that he has had contact with, maybe even on this forum. This topic won’t find any real solutions & if the person does read any of this, it will only fuel their cache stealing frenzy.

Place another one, but this time hide “Trail Cam” in the vicinity to catch the thief. Day or night the trail cam will catch the person.
I’ve seen numerous trail cams while out in the woods, and they really don’t blend in all that well. I would suspect you would end up being out the cache & the trail cam, so probably not worth it. It doesn’t matter what kind of security you use (cables, chains, locks, cameras) If someone wants the cache bad enough they will find a way to steal it anyway.

Ok
I just got a Explorist 210
Im running windows Vista
If I’m not mistaken Magellan doesn’t support the explorist models on windows vista. I did see a few years back a geocacher modified the Windows XP driver & got them working in vista, but I’m not sure where you could find any of this info anymore.

MemberNot that familiar with lowrance, but I’ll see if I can be of any help. If it were a Garmin I would tell you to do a reset of the unit, which involves holding the proper set of buttons at startup. If that didn’t work I would tell you to get the most current firmware update for your unit.
You can find the unit software(firmware) for your unit here.
http://www.lowrance.com/Products/Outdoors/iFINDER-H2O-C/Downloads/The only lowrance I updated before required you have an SD card & card reader on PC. Then once you had the update on the card & installed in the card back in the gps unit you had to navigate to the update in one of the menus to start the update.
Read on here that if you have WAAS turned on can cause some signal issues. might be worth a try turning that off.
