If you want more than one mapset loaded(streets, topos, lakes, ect.) you need to load them both at once. you do so by selecting the area you want of streets, then switch mapsets in mapsource and select the area you want of your other maps. now just upload to your GPS as usual.
The other catch is streets take priority over other mapsets, so you need to hide the streetmaps on your gps to see the other maps. It’s such a buried option that since your 60c only has 64mb of internal memory It may just be easier to load the different mapsets from the PC before you head out.
To show/hide mapsets on your gps, from the map screen press menu and select setup map. Highlight the mapsetup -information Icon(5th from left). You can show/hide individual map segments here, but if you press menu again with the i- icon highlighted you can show/hide entire mapsets.
If anyone is wondering I use this openstreetmap data to make custom maps for my garmin. here’s a bit of info about getting OSM data on garmin GPS, as of right now its not an easy process but I figure within the next few years someone will come up with a much easier method of using these maps on garmin receivers.
I have also heard some very bad things about all the new triton models. There is a forum dedicated to the trition series, so you could read about the issues people are having.

thanks hogrod. i’ll try some of those things.
now how do i change this part? where do i look?
they only thing I did differently with this macro was change the Cache description output to this code: %con1(%Dif/%Ter)-%hint
when you run the macro there is a popup window where you can change this option.

Any idea how to change this on a Garmin C330?
I’m not sure, but maybe someone else knows how.
After a looking for a different macro I found one that works better for me. you can find quite a few different custom POI gsak macros on this page: http://gsak.net/board//MacroIndex.php
The one I’m now using is GarminPoi_GPX version 1.2 by cron. It can be found here: http://gsak.net/board/index.php?showtopic=6621&st=0&#entry39948
they only thing I did differently with this macro was change the Cache description output to this code: %con1(%Dif/%Ter)-%hint
With that code I get container type, difficulty/terrain & the rest is used for the hint. if you just wanted all 88characters used for Hint I believe you would just use the code: %hint

when i look in my unit under custom points of interest i have multiple listings for many of the caches. is this normal? is there a way to change the data it is giving me?
After testing out the macro again I realized whats happening. when a hint is longer than will fit in one POI the macro is listing the POI more than once until it gets the whole hint listed, or I also noticed its listing some info I have no use for, causing multiple waypoints.
I’m looking again to see if I can find the other macro I used before, I also don’t like having all those waypoints with the same name.
here’s a bit more info, wanted to break up my post…..
By default the Custom POIs use a small silver dot as an icon. you can have a custom icon for each cache type you load, and its not to difficult to to do.
all you need to do is locate The folder you exported to From GSAK(the same folder you are loading from with garmins POI loader software), and copy a 16X16bitmap image to that folder and name it the same as the category you want it used for. (An example would be if you had a .GPX or CSV waypoint file called benchmarks, you would name the bitmap file you want to use “benchmarks”.) you can find cache type icons on the web, or here is a link to some of the ones I use.
http://hogrod.googlepages.com/16X16waypointicons.zipTo delete the custom POI file from your gps you need to access the card, the easiest way is to connect your gps to your pc and put the GPS unit into USB Mass Storage mode. To do this goto: main menu, setup, interface and select USB mass storage mode. (Note: if your not seeing USB mass Storage mode this was added in one of the past unit software updates which you can get on Garmins website or by using the webupdater)
I should first mention you should have the latest unit software updates/chipset updates for your unit when using Custom POIs. The 60Cx came out before this was fully supported and a few things have been updated since the beginning.
You can check what unit software you are running here: main menu, setup, system, press menu and select software version. The latest as of this post are Software version(unit software) 3.60, GPS software Version(chipset) 3.00. The easiest way to update these is by using garmins webupdater.
http://www8.garmin.com/products/webupdater/When you have the POI’s list on your 60cx screen if you press the menu button and choose select database, you can then choose from different cache types. I’m guessing that some caches you loaded fall under more than one category that’s why they are listed twice, or somehow you have loaded them twice.
Tr, Mu I believe these are abbreviations for Traditional cache, and multi-cache types. These Custom POIs are also listed on the map, though you can only see them at some of the closer zoom levels by default. To change what zoom level these show on the map follow these steps: from the map screen press menu and select setup map. Now highlight map setup- Points(third icon from left) & change the Map points setting. One issue with changing this setting is all your other POI’s(the ones that come with garmin map products) also use this setting, so your gas stations, restaurants and other points will also show up at higher zoom levels.

did i read once that there was a way to do something (poi?) to put the complete hint into the data field on the screen of my gps? i am wanting to by-pass the limitation garmin has that isn’t letting me show enough text.
Yes there is a way to get a bit more info into each waypoint, but you need a garmin X model handheld. This is because you need the card slot to load the waypoints as custom POI files to the data card.
If I remember correctly on my 60Cx can store 1000 normal waypoints that have a 14character name and 30 character note VS a unlimited custom POI can have a 44character name and 88 character note. Another nice advantage you can organize your custom POIs by category’s with a custom icon for each category.
I won’t go into to much detail in this post but here is the basics of how I use custom POIs….
I use this Gsak macro to export my waypoints: GarminCsvPoiExport 1.8 By ProsperoDK
http://gsak.net/board/index.php?showtopic=3172&st=0&#entry32637I then use garmins POI loader software to load my files to my gps.

I noticed tonight that the local Wally World the Legend with color screen for around $250,Legend with no color was $200 and the New yellow Etrex for $99.
You can get better deals from walmart online, though they won’t match the prices in the store. Orders can be delivered to the store for free shipping, or you can pay for home delivery.
The LegendHCx is under $200: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=6015173
or if you want the VistaHCx(same as LegendHCx but has the electronic compass and barometric altimeter) its around $230: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=6015174
I’ve currently own a VistaCx and 60Cx, and love the sirfIII chipset in the 60Cx. I’ve tried my brothers VistaHCx with its newer chipset and found it to be as good as the chipset in my 60cx.
Don’t be expecting miracles with a “high sensitivity chipset”, all this really means is the unit will get signal slightly quicker and hold signal better in the woods. This doesn’t mean you will have a more accurate unit.
Cold start my 60Cx takes 45seconds to get lock, if its been on recently(with a few hours) it only takes a few seconds after power up to regain lock. My VistaCx without a “high sensitivity chipset” takes 45-60 seconds to get lock cold start, and half that when used recently. Similar to the 60Cx, the VistaHCx seemed to get signal in about 40seconds and only a couple when warmed up recently.
Actually the X stands for expandable memory(card slot). S stands for sensors(electronic compass and barometric altimeter), except in the etrex line they don’t use the same lettering. The Etrex Vista, VistaC, VistaCx, and Vista HCX are the only model with the “S” features.
I own both types(with and without the sensors) even if find you don’t like the electronic compass its easily turned off. On the VistaCx I hold the page button for a few seconds(top right) to turn it off. On the 60CSx its also the page key, just hold it for a few seconds.
Looks like the cougar from Milton may have been killed in Chicago….

Maybe others have missed this, but you can request a website be added under the web links section.
It’s pretty easy, just click Web links on the left column of this page & when you see all the category’s listed there is a submit link button above those.
