You may have already tried this, I find if you are having issues with software it’s usually best to uninstall the software and try reinstalling it.

Better yet would be to uninstall the software and run something like CCleaner to remove any leftover crap, then reinstall the software.

There are no plans to make it available for Palm, iPhone, Garmin Nuvi, or any of the other media capable hand helds out there.

They just announced that the new Garmin Colorado handhelds will be capable of doing wherigo.

At the bottom of that page it says you can let them know what devices you would like to see whereigo work with and the more requests something gets the more likely there developers might work on it.

Just curious, what antivirus are you using? no issues here with AVG or Avast.

I still wish they’d make them show up when your “just passing by” one, withOUT using the Alert function or zooming in to the 200 foot overhead view.

You might be able to change what zoom level the POI’s show up at on the nuvi, you can on the garmin handhelds. Garmin updated the firmware on the 60series awhile back & made it possible for POIs show up at higher zoom levels. Before it was limited to under 800ft, I just tried and I was able to set mine to 5miles no problem(software version 3.50/chipset 3.00).

To change the zoom level POI show up on my 60cx I goto: main menu, setup, map. I then highlight the third icon from the left(map setup-points) and change the map points setting(see image below).

This setting also effects how all other POI show up(gas stations, parks, hotels, ect.) so you still might want to keep them from showing when zoomed way out.

    CONS:
The POIs don’t show up as little treasurer chests on your electronic road. You do get a dot when actively auto-routing to a waypoint. But unless you have it selected as your destination, the other waypoints (POIs) don’t show up on the map.

You can have a custom waypoint icon for each of the gpx files you load(see link below for more info). On my 60cx there is a mapsetting that does get the POIs to show up on the map, but only if you are zoomed close enough.

Alternatively, you can use the Garmin POI Loader to load them as Custom POIs.

This would be the best option, but Garmins POI loader isn’t compatible with a 60c, only Garmins X model handhelds(X stands for expandable memory). Custom POI’s are stored on the data card.

I’ve got about 20 custom waypoint icons(different cache types, ect.), I’ve put them in a zip folder so if you(or anyone else for that matter) ever want to use custom icons for different category’s I am more than willing to share.

I’d be surprised if they’ve taken custom that far for a unit meant to sit in your car … I’m pretty sure it’s looking for a single file, with the name of “poi.gpi”.

It is also just a single file on the 60cx(poi.gpi) even if you loaded multiple GPX files at once with garmins poi loader software. The info on the site below makes it look like the nuvi is fully capable of having multiple gpx databases loaded.

    http://www.gpsinformation.org/penrod/poiloader/poiloader.html

I’m going to quote part of the 4th post down on this forum…
    http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=59352

“On Nuvi or SD card a folder called POI is created, and it contains a file called poi.gpi. That file has your Custom POIs. If your POI folder on the PC contained more than one .gpx file (or .csv file created in another way), they are all combined into the one poi.gpi file. However, the poi.gpi file is set up so that Nuvi can recognize each component file that created it, and so Nuvi separates them into Categories, with the title of each category being the name of your original file. You are then able to see the POIs in categories from the My Locations screen. “

So it looks like it works just like on my 60cx, so you can have multiple databases loaded.

our geocache rubens cave is accessible on foot or by canoe on the sugar river/little sugar river. We listed coordinates for a couple boat landings on the cache page.

A .gdb file is the format that Garmin saves data in it’s MapSource program. It would be cool to be able to connect Mapsource to a Nuvi and upload these files just as I do with my Legend Hcx.

If you are not able to load waypoints to the nuvi with mapsource(though I think you can), you could open each of your .gdb files in mapsource, then go file menu, save as and change the file type to .GPX, then you could save all your .gdb files to a new folder as .gpx and load them with garmins POI software.

Also if you wanted to play around with the garmin POI loader software it is fully compatible with your LegendHCX, or any garmin X series for that matter.

I assume if you for example load a bunch of cache locates as custom POI’s on an SD card, that pulling the card would magically make the caches go away, or for that matter allow multiple “groups” of caches by using multiple SD cards.

I use the custom POI loader with my 60cx and since the custom POI file is on the card you can have different cards with different groups of caches but having multiple cards is unnecessary because there is a better way.

Garmins POI software just asks you where the folder is you want to load to the data card, you can have multiple GPX or CSV files for different groups/types of caches in that folder. When it loads the files to the card it makes just one file out of all of them.
Another really cool feature is you can have custom waypoint icons for each gpx or csv file, all you need to do is name your custom waypoint icon (a 16X16 bitmap) the same name as the gpx or csv file. so if you have a Benchmarks.gpx file then you would name its corresponding bitmap “Benchmarks”.

After you load a custom POI file to your data card it adds a custom point of interest category in the find menu on the gps. once you open this menu item it will display all the closest waypoints just like any other item in your find menu. On my 60cx when I have up the list of nearest Custom POIs, if I press menu and click select database it will list all the different GPX databases I loaded with the garmin custom POI software (see example below).

in reply to: installing maps on garmin 60c #1882694

You need to select all the map segments you want of city select, then in mapsource in the drop down menu(upper left) change you mapset to inland lakes and select the mapsets you want, then upload both at once.

Switching mapsets in the gps is kinda a pain…. from the map screen hit menu & select setup map. Now highlight the I-icon(map setup information), you can hide individual map segments here, but if you press menu again…. now you can show and hide whole mapset in this menu.

    Something to consider…

My wife works just over the Illinois border in Zion. It’s a sleepy little town. Two days ago, thieves went through her parking lot and smashed the windows of every car that had a dash mounted GPSr and stole them.

Good reason to put them in the glove box before exiting the car!

I’ve heard thieves look for suction mount marks on windshields if no devices are visible, so there isn’t much you can do besides getting a factory installed unit that would be to much hassle to take.

If you leave anything in your car someone can take it, even in your trunk.
