Memberthis is slightly off topic but figured someone who posted here may be able to help me. i have only ever used a pocket pc for paperless caching, but sold my pocket pc a few months back. i was looking on ebay for some of the cheap palm solutions and found that palm sells the Z22 for $99 new so this got me thinking. do i really want to buy a older used unit or just buy a new one?
my question is, can i use this palm for paperless caching? by the looks of it yes but i just wasn’t sure. http://www.palm.com/us/products/handhelds/z22/hogrod
Memberi also recived mine today and was happily suprised at the great quality(well once i got the package open). thanks allot for everyone to their efforts to make this happen.

Memberi beleive that i read on the geocaching forum somewhere that all locationless and virtuals are gonna be gone as of january 1st of next year. all virtuals/locationless should be converted to a waymark on waymarking.com
i guess it could just be the locationless that are leaving, but i think what i read said that since a virtual is not a real cache(no container) it falls into the same category.
UPDATE: after searching the forum everything i read before is wrong. the virtuals are grandfathered in on GC.com, but all locationless are gone. i did read that if you want to move your virtual over to waymarking, com like the locationless, you can.[This message has been edited by hogrod (edited 11-20-2005).]

Memberi just posted that info/link to let others know what is going on elsewhere. personally i can see in an urban setting not using a ammo box, but in the woods? seems silly. as for the logo it could use some updating, though im not going to say that the micro should take place of the ammo can.
hogrod
MemberI really like ammo cans, but have no issues with a well placed micro. maybe we should be happy that we still can use ammo cans, since it seems by what I’ve read that in michigan that the MI DNR doesn’t want people using these anymore. http://mi-geocaching.org/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=115

Any nearby besides Rubens Cave Cache?
my cache spelunking in magnolia (GCQRXZ) would qualify as a cave also, and is easy to get to compaired to rubens cave(and not on public hunting grounds). i would recommend doing rubens cave also, a great cache to visit, i have been back to area a few times with different groups.

Memberi would agree, the maps suck, unless you are in a area with an overlay. the site google earth hacks has more map overlays and POI files. the only overlay that i found for Download in wisconsin was for a boyscout camp, it showed all the trails, ect. was pretty nice….. would be really cool to see more of these, maybe even for state parks.
also you can get a file to show WIFI hotspots, so you can find not only caches, but other things that maybe useful too. check out the site below and look around. youll find some cool stuff. http://www.googleearthhacks.com/here is an example of an area before and after i downloaded a map overlay.

Memberif you like this geocache info in google earth, the site google earth hacks may also interest you. it has lots of downloads for map overlays and cool locations. http://www.googleearthhacks.com/

Memberthats really cool! i had not actually clicked that link because i just figured it would just show its current location, not all the places it has been.

Memberya i thought this was a nice little improvement, and thought i would share with everyone. i also noticed that it sometimes doesn’t get all the caches in an area until you are really zoomed in. even then if the cache is along edge of the map it sometimes wont show. but if you move map slightly it will get the ones along the edge. what i like the best is getting to see caches anywhere on the map with no effort by me, pick a destination and wait for map to load. thats pretty easy.
as for a setting where google earth knows what caches you have alrady done, i never found anything like that but that doesn’t mean it isn’t here. this would make it that much better![This message has been edited by hogrod (edited 10-18-2005).]

Memberalso here is what i did to find that download
to find the link on geocaching.com, log in and click on your user name in upper right. this should bring you to the page with all your recent logs. in the right column, look for “Google Mapping Features” and the first thing listed here is “Download Geocache browser in Google Earth”

MemberLOL is right, i guess i wasnt to clear, i have been using google earth for sometime so thats not was im asking. i was wondering if anyone else has tried the download from geocaching.com for google earth(its new).
with this plug in installed it basicly let you see caches on the map without having to load files in at all, it just gets the data online like all the other map info.
I’m going to include two links to screen shots of some of what this plug in does.here is how you can sort out what is displayed http://img356.imageshack.us/my.php?image=cachelistings5hc.jpg
here is how map looks…. http://img356.imageshack.us/my.php?image=g3copy1fi.jpg

Memberi was using firefox 1.4 so i decided to try it in opera. works great if i log into my account, but if i have my girlfriend log in, it doesn’t work, so not a browser problem just a link that i can’t share.
