Garmins website isn’t very good at telling which maps are compatable with which units.

Your legendH will work with the topo 2008, but you can’t use city navigator street maps since the legendH can’t do autorouting. If you wanted streetmaps you would need to find an old copy of Metroguide, I think Version 8 is the most current. With the Legend H’s 24mb of map storage you will only be able to hold about 1/3 of Wisconsin no matter what maps you choose.

As mentioned in a post above I would just save your money and use one of the free garmin topo maps from GPSfiledepot. These have more current road data compared to garmin’s topo, more topo contours, and more POI’s.

For the cost of the re-radiating antenna setup you would probably be better off just putting that money toward a different GPS, especially one that can use external antennas(like the 60csx & 76csx).

These re-radiating setups are really made for use in buildings or cars with that metal filmed window tint. what I have seen they have an antenna that mounts outside that rebroadcast the signal inside. This would do no good what so ever in the woods since the outside antenna would still be in the woods.

If you think the 60csx is good in the woods try it with an external antenna, much more solid signal with less tenancy to drift.

If your PC has a serial port & you have the serial cable for the legend you can setup gsak to also send waypoints to your legend.
if your PC doesn’t have a serial port you may need to get a serial to USB adapter.

Thanks LB7! That looks like it has the advantage of not putting in all the extraneous bits that other doc editors like Word chuck in. And it’s free!

Yep it looks like very clean code…..not quite sure if there is an easy way to add images using the program….that part may still need to be edited in. I only discovered this application an hour or so ago.

I’ve used google docs quite a bit… In google docs just click the insert menu and select images, I think it should work to add images to the doc though I’m not sure if it will work the way you want with HTML, you would have to check.

in reply to: Garmin 76s, edit startup text, software needed #1912822

I also read online that garmin added the ability to change this screen on some models, you just need to download the most current firmware & update your unit.
I don’t know if your unit is one of the ones that got this new feature, but I read an old post(from 2002) on the geocaching.com forum that they added this to the old vista, so I would assume that a more expensive unit like your 76s might have got the upgrade as well.

You can find updates for the 76S here.

I’ve never used this software myself as all the newer garmins you can edit the startup(welcome) screen from within one of the menus, though I’m sure this is what you are looking for.

Scanned one of these infected files with 21 different Antivirus programs, only 1 flags the file. Sometimes this indicates a false positive, but I suspect this is just some new type of infection.

Looking at why the website is flagged, I notice there is only 1 Malicious script exploit.

    http://safebrowsing.clients.google.com/safebrowsing/diagnostic?client=Firefox&hl=en-US&site=http://cacherstats.com/Rank33626-33750.html

Decided to ignore the warnings and look around the site and see if my antivirus still finds a virus or if it is just a fault positive from the infection before. I found something interesting, if I load the main website no virus is found, but as soon as I click the Wisconsin Stats page my AV goes off that it found a virus.

According to google(link above) there are 10 pages that download this malicious script. after testing here are the ones I found. Wisconsin, Michigan, New Mexico, Germany, United Kingdom, British Columbia, & the Czech Republic. Of course this could change anytime.

It does seem strange that only certain places/links are targeted, I wonder if it has to do with the pages with the most traffic.

Please everybody stop visiting this website until they get their issues fixed.

I’m no computer guy, so how am I supposed to know when it’s fixed?

All I’m saying is why risk going to the site for awhile(couple weeks to a month) to avoid the risk of infecting your pc.

Best bet for checking if the site is still infected(without infecting your pc) would be don’t use a bookmark to navigate to the website, or type in the URL unless you are using firefox 3.5. You could use google to search for the site but as many of you have seen their bad website blocker only works 3/4 of the time.
Someone running a mac or linux could use firefox 3.5 and try loading the page would be the safest way to see if the warning is gone, since they aren’t effected by 99.9% of viruses.

I fix customers PC’s every day with virus & malware issues, my warning is just highly recommended advice meant to keep all your computers running good. If you want to risk going to a known infected site, that’s completely up to you.

Please everybody stop visiting this website until they get their issues fixed. You are just asking for a possible virus/malware infection going to the site. Definitely not worth the risk just to look at some caching stats.

The reason not everyone is getting a warning is because of the differences in how they are getting to the website. I you try to search for the site in google, google will block the site with a warning. (see example below).

    Google Warning

If you Navigate to a bookmark or type in the URL directly in IE you get no warning, but try the same thing in firefox you will see the warning page below.

Beyond that if you are viewing the page without seeing these warnings your only protection left is the antivirus you have installed. If your AV isn’t detecting a problem It may be time to look into a different virus protection program. Not all AV programs are equal & just because you paid for your AV doesn’t mean it’s better.

I’m a bit curious, how many of you had your antivirus stop this threat & what AV are you using? Avira(free version) did stop the threat on my pc.

in reply to: blackberry/HP mini help #1912394

Not sure what the problem is exactly…. is the flash drive not being seen or are the files missing or something? are you getting these files off a CD or downloading from the net?

Why not just download from the net on your HP mini 110 from blackberrys website?

If you buy a external USB CD drive they are like $80, I made my own buying an enclosure & a new lightscribe DVD burner for around $40. Here’s an example of a similar enclosure, though there are many more to choose from. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817366013

Who takes care of this sort of thing now, the site or us? I am clueless due to my ‘puter illiteracy.

Well getting the website to fix it’s issue isn’t your responsibility, but notifying them can speed up the process.

in reply to: Malware Warning/ #1911575

Ok so I would say this website has done something(or been hacked), to be both flagged by google & firefox. I got two separate warnings one when trying to search/navigate to this page & one by trying to open the link directly.

Still ignoring firefox warning I continued to the page, Sure enough My Avira Antivirus stops an HTML dropper virus, once I quarantined it & tried to reload the page, all I get is a page cannot be displayed.

I found a few other websites recently with a similar dropper virus. I think this is some sort of flash or java bug based virus and you can be infected just by visiting the page & the page owner usually has nothing to do with it.

Be glad google and firefox are looking out for you.

in reply to: GE geocache browser not supported…. #1911352

I always use the Geocaching.com Google Map link thats on every cache page, it is pretty similar and I don’t need google earth installed.

Maybe they will do away with this too, if not you here’s a link:
    http://www.geocaching.com/map/default.aspx?lat=43.06650504551312&lng=-89.44398880004883&zm=13&mt=m

You can set a different center point by moving the map to the area you want, and clicking “link to this page” in the upper right of the map. Then just save/boookmark the new link they generate for you.
