I’m not sure what type of gps you have, but if you have a garmin and want some free Montana topo maps, Have a look at the links below.
These are user created maps that include a lot more data than the Garmin topo maps.

Has anyone out there tried to download lately from Geocaching.com by selecting a single waypoint from the cache description page (Send to GPS)?
Here’s a bit of unhelpful info, this extra tab isn’t for sending to Magellan GPS, its for sending to Delorme. If Magellan was smart they would make a similar plugin, but that hasn’t happened.
I decided to test out the Send to GPS function with my 60Cx since I haven’t used it in awhile. When I first used it I needed to install the Garmin communicator plugin, since I am using a different computer than before. Once I had it Installed it opened a test website and with my 60Cx plugged in it tested working.
I reopened the cache page, clicked send to GPS and it works great.I am using firefox as my web browser, so if your using Internet Explorer you might want to try something else. Another thing to try is using a different USB port, or unplugging other USB devices. Rebooting your PC may also help.

they guy on QVC told me that the Garmin nuvi’s w/ Bluetooth can also be used to utilize your blue-tooth enabled cell phone to get traffic updates and reroute you around construction and other traffic hazards in many “metro areas”. technology is so cool.
I think the guy on QVC was slighting wrong(unless things have changed), to get traffic you need a compatible model, an FM receiver add on and a subscription to MSN direct.
http://www.msndirect.com/devices.aspx?DeviceDetailsfromServices=GarminThe bluetooth isn’t for internet access, it’s for connecting other bluetooth devices to your gps.
I’ve played with the zumo(motorcycle gps), you can connect your bluetooth enabled phone so you can see your caller ID on the screen when you receive calls. You can also search the built in POI database and have the GPS call any of them for you.
Another really cool thing is getting a bluetooth motorcycle helmet, you can hear the turn by turn directions & make phone calls. I’m not for sure, but I think you can listen to the MP3 music files you have on your gps through the helmet too.I fix lots of computers, but have only worked on a few laptops. The small few I have fixed it was as easy as removing a plastic cover from the bottom of the machine and removing a few screws and sliding the drive out.
There is more than one cover on the bottom of most laptops, but the hardrive is easy to distinguish as its usually the largest one. you will have possible covers for Processor, ram & wifi card, and harddrive.
another possibility is to have someone re-solder the power connection that broke on the back of your machine. This is actually a more common problem than you might think.
As long as its just the battery, you could buy a laptop hardrive USB enclosure. You would have to pull the Laptops harddrive out to use it, but would be able to just plug the drive into another computers USB port to pull all the files off.
The only issue is There are two possible drive types, IDE or SATA. below are links to both types of enclosures. I’ve used the first one with great success.

I used to work for a tower company & put up these antennas and yes they are on the same towers.
If you live that close to the transmitters and are having signal problems its time you invest in a new antenna, but before you do you might want to try replacing the coax you have first and eliminate any unneeded splitters you are using.
you would be surprised how one old cheap splitter or worn out coax could cause allot of signal loss. Another thing to consider would be buying a good amp to put on the line. From New Glarus I am pulling in all the Madison stations great even though I’m down in a hole so to speak. I even get channel 57, which is located just off County Road A almost to Janesville. I’m using my old crappy roof antenna. My brother who lives in Monroe just got a new antenna with a rotor, He pulls in Madison, Rockford, Milwaukee, and Dubuque.
I’ve never bought anything from this website, but it has a great variety of antennas and info about choosing the right one for you.

Usually I’m the nervous sort … but I don’t get …
#1 How does someone having my cell phone number lead to identity theft?
#2 If there’s a note in my car window that I’m geocaching … while would someone assume there’s a GPSr in the car … I would assume there’s NOT a GPSr in the car, as the dudes using it right now.
#3 If you don’t put what time your returning on the note … the “bad guy” must assume you are going to return at any time. If I was wanting to break into someones car, having no note at all tells me the same thing as a note with no time limit saying I’m hiking. Either way it’s an empty car.
1. It’s just a small piece of the puzzle. They also have your Plate number, and probably your name/address off your vehicle registration once they get inside the car. Obviously you have never been harassed/stalked by anyone. Once the thief has your number, they can call and see if your home so they can also burglarize your house.
2. I would also assume there is no gps in the car, but I bet there’s a laptop or other “cool” gadgets. how many of you use one unit in the woods & another to navigate to the cache?
3. If someone wants into your car nothing is going to stop the thief. Leaving a note though is gives the thief more info about you so its like an open invite. Your right though, DON’T post the time you left your car if your leaving a note.

Also leaving personal information like phone numbers out where anyone can see them isnt the best idea either with all the identity theft that goes on.
Get a grand central phone number for free, you can forward the calls to any number. I have one and use it anytime I am asked for my phone number. It’s also really nice to screen/block unwanted calls. You get to choose where your number is from, so I got a number in another state so my family can make a local call when calling me.
http://www.grandcentral.com/I only give out my real phone number to family and friends. 😀
I find this story quite odd, unless there is a heavy snowfall and your car is blocking the roadway for snowplows, don’t most police tag a vehicle 24hrs before it gets towed?
Either The car was seen parked there a couple days in a row or the cop wasn’t following normal procedures. As for the geocaching Windshield tag, thats like advertising your probably out hiking for 30minutes or longer and possibly have electronics to steal in your car. Any note you leave is probably going to be seen by thieves before it ever stops your car from being towed/ticketed.
Best bet, don’t park along the side of a road in the winter time, park father away and hike in. If you can’t do that it’s probably a better idea to wait to do the cache until spring.

You get your query from Geocaching.com, not from GSAK. Set up a pocket query on the site. The site will email it to you. Save the zip file they send you somewhere that you can find it. Run GSAK and File|load the file. Done. (Yes, it is that easy. The harder part is setting up the pocket query to do what you want.)
These are very good instructions, but there is another step some of you can do that will make it even easier to get new caches in GSAK, all you need is POP3 access to your email account.
For a gmail account I think you have to enable this in your gmail settings online, in the upper right corner of your gmail inbox. In GSAK file menu, select get data via e-mail. setup your pop access(see gmail example below)
To sync my bookmarks between multiple Pc’s, browsers, and Operating systems I just use googles customizable home page Igoogle, and have added the bookmark gadget. I’ve been using this method for at least three years & it still works great.
I also still use the browsers built in bookmark feature for things I am researching but have no use for as a permanent bookmark. I’m actually shocked how many useless bookmarks I accumulate in a few months this way.
I have always liked cache of the month, as it usually highlights some great locations. One issue I have is the nominating of premium caches, since that leaves out all non-premium geocachers ability to find the cache or even see the cache page.
Maybe I’m biased as a nonpaying geocaching.com member, but doing less than 100 caches a year I really don’t need pocket queries.
Firefox and Google Chrome, though I use firefox 95% of the time.
I seen there is a new BETA firmware available for the Oregon series. I’m not sure which model this is for, or if it’s a generic firmware that works for all. THis fixes a few issues that some of you might have came across.
