thanks!
found it.
thanks!
my 12 year old son said he likes any kind that you can climb a tree for. His favorite is Der Schlechte Affe Geht Deutscher! by Uncle_Fun (GCRN4J) 😯
my 13 year old daughter said ” multis are fun, nanos suck” – her favorite is Dinosaur Dash by Pjphoto1 (GCXXNZ) 😈
my 14 year old daughter hates geocaching, and says her favorites are the ones you reach out of your car window to get – but even those are dumb. 🙄
none of them mentioned swag, because we usually don’t find much, and when we do it is more geared for the really little kids.
thanks for the feedback – it looks like I am going to be “hope2findyou” from now on – not a big change, but I think enough to do the trick. I emailed geocaching.com – I haven’t gotten a response yet, but I’m confident they will change the name for me.
yeah, it got creepier when he sent me a “friends” request at midnight – but other than that one time, the people I have met on the trail have been great. I actually feel much more comfortable caching alone in the woods than I do caching alone in the city. My only “issue” when I’m alone in the woods is if I get lost, but then I always have my cell phone, and I always know EXACTLY my coordinates, so I figure I’d be able to be found again eventually.
furfool – my puzzle is WAAAAAY easier than the one you were working on over the weekend. I’ll email you with a clue on that one.
good point – I’ll put a message on the cache page for that too, along with the message I already have on there about logging it more than once.
I’m glad you mentioned that. I think I’ll listen to dad right now….
actually, I am still working on the (perhaps) flawed assumption that I am normal, and that everyone else is a bit touched. Geocaching is a wonderful sport – What other sport allows you to spend hours upon hours in mosquito infested swamps for the ultimate goal of signing your name on a little damp piece of paper inside a magnetic key holder????? Talk about Satisfaction!!! It doesn’t GET any better than that.
One of the times I wondered about my geo-sanity was when I did my first cache in Texas. I was on my way from the airport to my hotel, and stopped off in a field and was looking and looking – then it dawned on me that I wasn’t in SE Wisconsin anymore, and I really knew nothing about the types of vermin in the area I was in – such as poisonous snakes. I got pretty nervous while I was out there all alone, poking my hand in crevaces in the rocks and the wierd foliage – with noone knowing where I was….. But i found the cache anyway – it was in good shape, and contained the necessary tools to do a nearby earthcache, so can you blame me???
thanks…. maybe I’m just a bit nuts, and am remembering the numbers incorrectly.
YES! We went to Cumberland Falls last summer on a whim – we FINALLY sold our house and needed a vacation, but it was too expensive to fly the 5 of us somewhere, so we drove to Kentucky (doesn’t everyone??). I picked Cumberland Falls because of the whitewater rafting there – the kids had a blast and it was beautiful – it was a really pleasant suprise that it was so nice after having just basically picked the place out of the blue.
I read this with interest – I only have three EC’s but they are all doing well with the photos, etc. I have one in rural Kentucky that is pretty cool – its near a waterfall that you can see a moonbow at during full moons. One of the questions I asked isn’t found anywhere on any signs there, so some of the people get the answer wrong – but because the idea is to learn something, I usually just email them with the correct answer. As long as they have the photo and they gave the question a good shot – all is good.
I personally love Lapham Peak – camping could be nearby, but not exactly there.
I just did my very first pocket query after reading these posts – only to find that I have 19 pages done already!! woot!!
I think I’ll go for it slowly right now, but this summer, when we are out travelling, I’ll make a point to do a few.
Great idea.
ok, its settled then.
I will put an event together – (as long as my hubby is ok with it – actually, maybe I’ll send him to visit his sister in North Carolina that weekend)
It probably will be in July
I will get some help to put it together by a few sisters that are cachers, and the guy who sits next to me at work – who is a cacher.
And, hopefully lots of veteran cachers can give me some hints on putting an event together.
Julie
you are right – an event might be the best way to do this. I have never been to a geocaching event, so obviously have never set one up, but this could work for that.
I could set up the Monopoly waypoints, then have everyone meet at the park, and send people out to start the game in 5 minute intervals, and see who gets the Bonus first – with a cool FTF prize.
with all the work that went into putting this together – it would be very satisfying to actually SEE people doing it.
and I could hang out by the pavillion with a beverage and laugh as I see caching teams criss-crossing the park.
I like that idea!!!
I apparently set a couple of caches on private property – although back in the woods, it was really hard to tell where private started and public ended.
Two were too close to the railroad (one of those was Reading RR of course).
The park currently has a total of 5 caches – 4 of them are mine, and were set there for the express purpose of “saving” the location for this monopoly cache. Lots of people have done them now, and I wouldn’t have an issue archiving them.
The 5th cache there is put out by someone who has only found 3 caches total, and has this one set up. Lots of people have found it, but I’m thinking that he might have given up on the caching thing, and might be open to the idea of abandoning that cache.
I originally had set up Monopoly with that “other” cache left in place – it DID make my hides a little more difficult to place, so without it, the placing of waypoints in acceptable locations would be much easier.
Like I said – this would definately take a LONG time to actually find – so I’m not sure many cachers would be interested – but its a really nice park, and there are a lot of other things to do if some cachers in the group decided to take a break.
