  • in reply to: Geology classes? #1898289

Graduated in 01 with a BS in Geology from UW-Madison. I probably ought to get an EC out there, as they are popping up in throngs.

I may be interested in the REI credit, perhaps.

in reply to: 2008 Fall Color Report #1896685

    Just got back from the
Park Falls-Mellen area. The colors were pretty impressive, at least in my opinion. They were far better than anything I’ve seen in southern WI the last 3 years. Was a little shocking visiting the mid 20’s already though.

You must be at a cache in the pic, judging from the parking job.

Gotta pay off the other vehicles before adding any new ones. Good luck.

Funny, I just got home now with no computer access since Friday. I was going to ask on these forums about this charachter. Looks like I am too late. I thought about shooting him/her an email, but I see now there is no point. Laughable.

    Where did you go?

in reply to: Stae Parks #1892602

Not sure if your talking about the campground by itself, or the campground and the park. I enjoy Devil’s Lake, but the campsites I’ve used have been nothing special in my experience. The raccoons here are large and brazen. I’ve stayed at Pattison once and had a great trip. Wish I would have caching then. My wife is “afraid” of bears, so I heard about them daily. Yellowstone Lake SP is pretty neat due to the lack of flying insects. They have large amounts of bats that eat skeeters and the likes. I’ve been there twice and have yet to see a skeeter, though I haven’t been there this year. Bagley Rapids in the Nicolet NF near Mountain was great. As the name suggests, you sleep just yards from the Oconto river. This place is rustic and had only about 10 sites. This is my kind of place. Hope this helps.

Grew up outdoors, but currently escapading as a baker in a corporate setting. Moved from a small family owned business two years ago. I eat sweets all day and burn them off at night.

in reply to: Enough with the micro caches! Am I right, folks? #1892085

Several years ago I was “bashed” in a similar forum to this for not having much or any swag in my new regular to large sized caches. Most cachers who posted notes agreed with the “basher”. Now swag is widely regarded as junk. Such is caching.

I know Thunderslide is in charge of the geocaching portion. I will be in Cozumel then, but according to the email I received, it sounds like it is more of an educational style event. If I remember correctly, he plans to hide soem temps and teach some newbies what this sport is all about. If your looking for more info, I could pass his email on to you.

in reply to: What kind of GPSr do you use? #1887938

Magellan. Started with a 300, then a 400, and now a 500. I’m surprised by the results thus far that there are that many magellan users out there. I don’t know that I have ever run into one on the trail.

I guess I’m a bit curious. While using mine, I change screens so often that I can’t imagine not holding the unit in my hand. I don’t suppose you would post a pic?

While you were busy playing a bit of ball today, got to have a nice chat with Anne. Can’t wait to get back to the area for some great hikes.

So what does it say if you put out a brand new ammo box, with only a log in it?

in reply to: problems with my Garmin #1886476

Does this happen in the truck, or when you’re standing outside? I had a similar problem, and it was related to the factory coating on my windshield. I realize you said this only started happening, but just an idea.
