Definately a great cache, and at this time of year when the leaves are so beautiful, there are great views.

I don’t feel it is necessary to remove anyone’s pictures from the cache logs, as I feel they are part of the logs and tend to increase the interest of most that view them first. Just as at Devil’s Lake, there are many great hiding areas at the good Dr. Evermore’s cache friendly environment. No one has complained about it being too easy.

And a shamless plug of another of our caches, is the Hemlock Cache in a beautiful little county park a little north of Reedsburg, just off Hwy 33 on the way to LAX. Take time for a picnic lunch.

Thanks all! From the responses I’ve gotten and those I’m going to respond to, I’ll be covered. We will be hiking to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and tent camping there. The rest of the time we’ll be van camping with our dogs. We’re looking forward to it. THANKS!!

I have read that others have emailed the Yuppers personally regarding their inquiry about a class in Rusk County. All that is needed is a couple seasoned local cachers and some help to put on a class.
If they want to promote Rusk County, a possibility is to check out Northern Ontario, Canada for ideas. They are in their second year of promoting Northern Ontario through geocaching with caches and prizes by local sponsers. See http://www.geocachingontario.com They have placed 66 caches and sponsered 3 events in the past two years.
They don’t have to go on this grand a scale, but could gleen some good ideas here. Good luck and keep us posted on your progress.

in reply to: Too many business cards in caches? #1759314

We also have a small collection of Geocaching cards, and do trade them out if they are interesting. I try to keep the cards of finders in the log book bag, just as a way of separating from other “loot”. I find it interesting to see how others are creative with their cards.

Hotdogs are up for camping Fri/Sat nites, so we’re open to sharing a site. Look forward to seeing the “new” FlushingGrouse team member.

If you don’t mind a fairly short drive, may I suggest some caches near Devil’s Lake area. It’s a beautiful glacial lake about a mile long, half a mile wide, and has 500 foot quartzite bluffs on three sides. One of the prettiest spots in the midwest. Great hiking trails, and caches from under water to almost the top of the bluffs.

Congratulations to you all!! Did she sign the log, or just leave a footprint?
Missed you at the campout, got up early and no big red van with hot chocolate/coffee going. See you on the trails soon I hope.

I may need to get to a nice full service grocery store on this weekend….any suggestions???

in reply to: Camping Survey- What do you do? #1737994

We usually fall into the “van” category of campers. Need room for us and the real “hotdogs”. Usually end up pulling a self-converted trailer with our mountain bikes and gear. We still tent camp, but not as much. Also have had a travel trailer for a couple years, that we leave in the Ozarks near Mountain Home, Ar.

We try to find unique items to leave, and carry for different ages. We leave our share of games and stuffed animals for the kids, but have found some great items recently, including crystal world globes..watch for them. We also like to have a few themed items to leave…when in Door County, we left lighthouse items, when in the Black Hills, we left carved buffalo in some caches. We also have alien and other themed items. Make this fun for all…and don’t overlook garage sales for finding trading items.

I think most cachers are pleased when their TB’s move in any direction. It makes the goal all the more interesting to watch. We picked up the Packer Bag TB in Wisconsin in the spring, with a goal of getting to Arizona by winter, so the owners could go seek it out. We dropped the TB in Arkansas, and it headed to Texas, was picked up there, took a side trip to a beach in Aruba…somewhat the wrong direction to say the least. Made it back to Louisiana or Texas again before taking another side trip to Virginia. From there it finally made it to Arizona, and I think the owners were not too unhappy about the off route travels. So just do your best and watch them travel…
