Jeeps for the Hotdogs?? We’re planning on a southwest run this weekend, down close to the Mississippi River. If you need some in that area or around Devil’s Lake, count us in!!

Sounds like everyone’s hungry already. We’ll also have some hot coffee and milk for the little ones. One Hotdog cooking and two eating.

in reply to: Arkansas is on the ball #1746606

Just returned from ten days of hiking/camping/caching in the Ozarks of Arkansas. The state parks are very open to caching. I met a ranger from the Army Corps of Engineers Parks while getting trail info. He noticed my Geocaching.com hat, and we got in a great conversation about the Corps being interested in attracting this type of people to their parks. He even knew of our team from reading logs in his area. They were very pleased with our cache-in, trash-out policy. It was a very positive conversation and I was able to pass his name on to some of the local cachers that we know.

Don’t forget that some of the placing volunteers will be at Hartman Creek on the 25th…this includes myself.

I’d sure like to attend. Will be out of state from 4/1t4/10, but other that that I need help with my PDA.

    in reply to: Benchmarks #1739741

If you want to have a challange, there are two benchmarks located at Devil’s Lake that we’ve located. One is just off the West Bluff Trail and is a triangulation station, so try to find all three discs….they are all there but two are much harder to locate. then for a hike and climb to remember…The benchmark on the south bluff!! No trails, no easy way to get to it, but do-able by us older cachers, and the view of Devil’s Lake is tremendous. One that very few people ever get to. Many years ago there used to be a South Bluff Trail, but it is long gone now. Plan to take a lunch to eat on top, and allow plenty of time. Definately a 4 1/2 and worth it!!

Belated Congratulations from the Hotdogs. When I read about your 1000th on sunday, I had a Hazelnut Hot Chocolate in your honor. Best of luck along the trails.

    Hey Brian,

We can bring some firewood, and would also like to volunteer for a day cache placement if you need one, and one night cache placement.

in reply to: LaCrosse Area #1750294

If you’re interested in getting a Rochester-Lacrosse group together, try having an event get-together some evening or weekend at a restaurant or picnic area. See how much interest there is among other cachers. We did that in Madison and now have the Central Wisconsin cachers group that meets about once a month.

in reply to: Snowshoe experience anyone? #1746336

Sounds like you got a great pair of snowshoes. For your average caching and geting around they are rather large and, at 56 inches, are probably best suited for a large person. We have both, the beautiful wooden snowshoes and the new aluminum shoes. I love my wooden for just shoeing in deep snow, but for on the trail of a cache, the newer hi-tech aluminum are like walking with little weight on your feet and easier to manuver as they are only 25 inches compared to my 56 inchers.
We shoed about 4-5 miles last weekend to retrieve out caches at Blackhawk Ridge and loved it, but were glad to get back to the van. Hotdogs were carrying a few extra pounds of dangling snow balls by the end of the hike (actually had to carry Madison for a while to let her rest from the deep snow). We’re headed out this AM on a snowshoe/cross-country ski/caching adventure, not knowing what lay ahead on the trails. Have fun with your shoes. There’s good info online at Tubbs and Atlas snowshoe websites (those are two different sites).

Had minor trouble with registration. wanted to register as Hotdogs Off Trail, but the program would only recognize my nickname, not team name. If you can change Jeff to Hotdogs Off Trail, please do. Thanks.
