Shamelessly plugging our own cache, for your 50th or anytime in the future, check out Lone Rock Cache just north of Wi. Dells.
Thanks Trudy and the Beast!! We’ve had a great year of caching and have discovered so many wonderful new places and met so many great fellow cachers. We anxiously look forward to our second year and hope to meet more of you on the trail or “off trail”.

First …THANKS Jeremy for the great meeting notes. Helps to keep us all on the same page.
I’m forwarding my notes on a Cache Patrol to the Wi-Geocaching association for all to see and add their ideas. I feel this will be a win-win for cachers, placers, property owners and Wi-Geocaching.
1. Purpose:
The Cache Patrol member would monitor and help repair/replace existing caches that would otherwise not be
able to be attended to in a timely manner. Wi-Geocaching would maintain a data base of volunteers and their
areas. Members could also volunteer to do caches in other areas while on vacation if the need arose.2. Advantages:
a. enhances the hunt for all cachers to come
b. prevents caches from becoming archived temporarily or permanently
c. assists the placers of the cache who are not able to attend to their cache in a timely manner because…
they live farther away (or reside out-of-state)
they are busy at the time
they are on vacation (or are away from home for extended period due to being a snowbird..going south for
the winter)
they have moved away from the aread. gives a reason for the patrol member to visit or re-visit the cache area
e. assists the property owner (DNR) by helping to assure that the cache is properly maintained and
does not contain inappropriate items3.Patrol Members:
a. would have a home area, but as this is voluntary, would not be obligated for any of the above reasons (2c)
b. usually the closer the cache is, the sooner it could be repaired/replaced
c. would correspond with placers to see what repairs are needed and how to best handle the specific cache
4. Suggested Replacement/Repair kit:
a. plastic zip-lock bags of various sizes
b. Official Geocache Note – should be included in all caches
c. medium Tupperware container
Note: I use mine to carry almost repair items in and if a cache were to need emergency replacement, I
could leave the containerd. pencils/pens
e. duct tape (regular or camouflage)
f. a cloth for drying out interior of cache container

Congratulations on our 100th member!!! We’ve met so many great new friends through caching. I notice on the main page there’s a listing of the member’s with homepages, but could the rest of the members be somehow listed? Shouldn’t be too hard to make a list.
Seems the Hotdogs and Little Otter have a bit of a local rivalry going. If she waited 7 days, why couldn’t she wait a couple more hours (sneaky otter)? It’s fun following an otter around the state, but this is the closest we came on a hunt (I always put the time of day on our logs for just this purpose). Out in the boonies here we rarely meet other hunters on the trail unless we know they will be there. So in our spare time we otter watch.
Sounding better all the time.
In 4.1 the cache owner is to take responsibility for the contents of his/her cache…but in 5.2 the cache hunter is to remove inappropriate items. I think 4.1 is well worded, but 5.2 still has the problem Thraxman pointed out that the hunter would be in possession of illegal weapons, drugs, or hazardous materials.
5.2 If a geocache hunter finds inappropriate items in a cache (such as food, knives, etc.) he or she shall remove these items from the cache and/or notify the cache owner.
These last two comments are very good, and I especially like Cachecows definition. This is heading in a very positive direction which I feel could be acceptable to the DNR, and could be a model for others. Is there any thought to another meeting before it is presented to DNR?
Still reading this over again.
2.1 “…Parks requires permission…”
Should “written and/or emailed” be put in, so each cacher would have a copy of his/her permission?
2.2 “…large lettering with the word Geocache on the outside…”
What about micros and other smaller caches and those with camoflage tape, etc?
Thanks Ken and all others who are working so hard for us with the DNR to keep our sport viable on Wisconsin State property.
The article for IMPACT magazine was very eloquently written and should go a long way towards introducing geocaching to those in charge of all parks. I believe you and Wi-Geocaching have done us all a great service and hope you will be able to continue with follow-up meetings and articles.
If there is anything we as members can do, please let us know. THANKS!!!Sounds like fun, but will let you know at a later date if we’re for sure. Thanks for the invite!!
Totally agree! One of my favorite parts of the hunt is reading past logs. To have the time of day, weather, and thoughts on the hunt and/or area is a part of caching that I’m sure is enjoyed by not only the cache placer, but other hunters. Savor the moment if possible and share it with others.
Ken, are you still of the feeling that the official position is no position in the Wi State Forests? In other words have you had any further feedback from the rangers you had emailed? Jeff – Hotdogs Off Trail
After all the congrats about 1st anniversaries of geocaching, I thought it might be worthy of note that May 3rd marks the 2nd anniversary of the first ever geocache in 2000 (only three days after selective availability was removed), and look at our sport now.
Who’d a thunk it?? :balloon:I will bring a couple really nice, new Packer soft-side coolers for the Iowa cache. They may be a bit too large to actually go into the cache, but I’ll supply a couple of our Geocaching “business” cards and whoever trades/chooses the card can redeem for the coolers when they return to the event headquarters.
How about a lending library type thing. We’d pay postage to see it before the campout.
