I wouldn’t say that this is a “worst” hint, but was for a wonderful cache we did on a “mountain” in the middle of a lake. The cache is GC1776 (placed 8/19/2001 – so that explains the longer hint) located in Arkansas, the hint will give you writers cramp to decrypt:

Additional Hints: “BE sure to start at the trailhead located at 35′ 33.568 N 92′ 15.678 W ALT=155m. This is what geocaching is all about so check those maps and plan your trip before you go! You will not be able to drive your car directly to the trailhead by following your GPS signal! You’ll need some special equipment to get to the trailhead. There are two areas very near the site where you can rent the equipment you need (if you don’t already have it) or you can use your “golden personalities” to bum a ride from a local (like we did on our first trip). Creative geocachers might think of other ways of approaching the trail head, of course that is most of the fun!

We did the trail in water boots, but you will want to be sure to take your tennis or hiking shoes to get the most enjoyment out of the walk. The easy trail loops around the bluffs and is a beautiful walk. If you have time be sure to take it. If you are in a hurry, you will want to take the left trail when it splits and then start looking for the trail ‘up’ on the right soon there after. Although I thought this was one of the best jobs the park service has done working the steps and rails into the environment while still providing good access for most people, you will want to allow time for the trip due to the quick change in altitude. Anyone in fairly normal shape should be able to make the climb up if they take their time. Seats and ‘rest areas’ are provided all along the way.

The cache is located just off the main trail on top. Look for some older growth trees and a few cactus patches. Be careful not to trample the plants and grasses if you can… there are several people/animal paths to follow through the ‘good stuff.’ It is hidden under a large rock, in a natural recess – no digging required. Replace the rocks so the cache remains in place. Gravity and water drainage will be attempting to carry our cache back down the hill, so your cooperation is appreciated.”

…in the good ole early days of geocaching….

Hotdogs Off Trail are also looking for a camping buddy to share a site for Friday and Saturday nights at the Cache Bash. Camping fees at the private campgrounds are about $30-35/night.

If we are not out of state, we will try to be there Jeff. Hey, have you met the M&M Premiums yet???? Triple chocolate even….I”ll have a box for you at the campout, so your recipe may have to change a bit??

I knew you were joking, so just had some fun with it, and tried to add a little information. And Jag thanks you for the complement.

Any comment on bringing a dog along?

I’m guessing since it’s a State Park, dogs are allowed but with many limitations due to the picnic area rules.

Just looking for feedback to help me weigh the pros/cons.

Hotdogs Off Trail was at the last campout and I believe he was allowed free run of the park.

Are you saying it was me running amuck at the last campout, or my dog? Our dog(s) are usually a part of all our geocaching activities, unless specifically forbidden.

Bonnie just got a new Garmin Astro 220, which has a GPS receiver and transmitter on the collar for Jag (our dog, not me). It relays direction, distance, and makes a trail of his runs. Pretty cool system for up to 10 dogs to be tracked.

Nice to see an event in our area, we’ll try to be there if possible. Sounds like it could be a fun morning.

It was cold, windy, rain blowing sideways for most of the day, (did I mention windy?), muddy, and did I mention windy and rainy with snow on the way? A great spring day for geocachers. MOGA had over 500 registrants…don’t know how many made it on the trails.

Started out ok, but during the morning caching the rain began in ernest. Soaked and cold by noon, we changed clothes and got ready for the 2-person timed team event in the afternoon. Thought the tent would blow away before se began. Trudged and slipped from cache to cache, some areas near the lake had “moon grease” to walk through. Finished soaked again, so off 16 miles to nearest town for supper and laundramat to dry off…again. At the evening program found that Team Hotdogs Off Trail took 2nd Place in the 2 Person Over 40 Team Competition. Coming home with two trophies for Wisconsin, our first ever.

Who says this game isn’t addicting?

Looks like Team Hunnybunnies is caching through northern Arkansas from east to west. I got notification on the Gorilla Cache, oldest cache in the state. I checked and we’ve done a couple others that they’ve hit so far. Have a safe trip, and looking forward to an update.

Crator of the Diamonds State Park, Murfreesburo, Ar. http://www.crateofdiamondsstatepark.com I have that as a destination for the future also. I’ve heard one of the best times to search is right after a rain has washed the ground a bit. Good luck!

Has a meeting location been chosen for the Feb 22 meeting?

Also making our spring trip to the Arkansas Ozarks, but we will be going down in late March. What is your destination, Gram and Gramps?

in reply to: anyone attending MOGA 2009??? #1900262

We have just made plans to attend on our way to the Ozarks this spring. this will be our 2nd MOGA. We had a great time when we last attended. Don’t know if we will be camping or not yet.
