Bunches……there are the bunches of tabs, in the bunches of windows, from the bunches of browsers, and then there’s the secret weapon: The ‘TooManyTabs Toolbar.’
You mean all computers, and phones, and their browsers and their tabs, too?
Thanks for the introspection.
Time for an intervention :wacko: :wacko:
Many, many thanks to you all for your congrats and kind words! We certainly enjoy seeking out Lonely Caches (way too much, perhaps?), finding rewards through the new experiences we encounter along the way, and being thankful that doing so contributes to the positive objectives of the Game – a fresh and vibrant playing field across our entire State.
And grand kudos to:
those who keep the game running so smoothly, efficiently, and with a ‘user-friendly’ interface (Hey! When will the App be in the Store?);
those with the vision to create, and the fortitude to refine this great Game;
all the LCG players, ‘old’ and new, that keep the Game and caches of Wisconsin fresh, alive, inviting and rewarding;
and to the many CO’s across the state, who generously give of their creativity, time, energy and expense to make Wisconsin such a wonderful place to be a geocacher!
Here’s to hoping you can envision and aspire to some of the many great geocaching adventures that await you in 2013 – in both Wisconsin and beyond – and may your 2013 geocaching experiences be better and more rewarding than you can even imagine! π π

Hmmmm. How and why?
So, if someone found a Lonely Cache on, say, 12/19/12, and then submitted for points on, say, 12/27/12, that would be 8 days and worth 0 points if Rule 10 were strictly enforced? That’s one approach, and easy on the brain and the LCG Police.Don’t know the History of the Rule, but always had the sense some of the rules came about in the early ‘Wild West’ days of the game, to help reign in excessive Strategic Sandbagging; or perhaps it was simply to place a reasonable time-frame on submissions, or a balance between the two.
Without quoting the game’s mission, pretty certain it is to keep the State’s caching landscape clean and vibrant, by encouraging participants through fun and rewarding adventures. A Win-Win scenario, that works really well, in our opinion. Perhaps the Game has morphed onto a healthy path, accepting some flexibility in the Rules, and treating them more as guidelines subject to reasonable gamesmanship.@BigJim60 wrote:
Nothing to return, buying a toilet seat and detergent for the dishwasher
Why does your dishwasher need a toilet seat? (This must be some kind of setup…………) π π

The email:
Subject: We are retiring ChallengesDear Geocacher,
In our effort to inspire outdoor play through Geocaching, we are often faced with decisions about what to focus on next, and what to focus on less. It is through these decisions that we explore opportunities to grow the global game of Geocaching.
Occasionally, during this process, we are faced with the reality that certain ideas don’t catch on as we had hoped. In these situations we owe it to ourselves and to you to make tough decisions about the future of every project and the resources to be applied to each. Sometimes, as a result, cool features must become casualties.
In this spirit, we have decided to retire Geocaching Challenges.
This means that, effective today, we have disabled the ability to create new Challenges. We have also removed the Challenges application from all mobile application stores. In approxim ately 7 days, we will be removing all traces of the Challenges functionality and related content from Geocaching.com.
On an office wall here at HQ is a sign that reads, “Let’s make better mistakes tomorrow.” By accepting that we will sometimes get it wrong, we can allow ourselves to learn from and imagine new opportunities in the world of Geocaching. Our hope is we can take the lessons from Challenges and create better tools to guide you on your next adventure.
Sincerely,
Geocaching.comDo we get to keep our numbers? π₯ π₯
Have you searched to see if the Internet Explorer program is still on the computer, and she somehow only erased the desktop or task bar icon? For Win7: Click on Lower left Start, enter ‘Internet Explorer’ into ‘search programs and files’ search bar, then click on IE if it shows up as being present.
Do we? Yes
Should we? Yes, since we believe repairs/replacements are sometimes appropriate, on a case-by-case basis. But the number one requirement before taking any action, is that there should be a container or remnants/contents found at/near the cache’s hide location.
More often than not, a good cleaning is the need you’ll encounter. Be prepared to CITO the area, and dry out the container, haul out wet and moldy stuff, restoring the container and contents to a functional and acceptable ‘game piece.’ Opinion here: “The log is wet and not sign-able” is a wimpy response from an LCG player seeking a Lonely Cache.
Also, when chasing after Winter hides, Lonely or not, be prepared to repair containers that you might damage while searching or extracting them from their icy hide………
Controversial? Yes. (And that likely applies to this post.)
Items carried, aside from knowledge of the hide, its owner, and their history/tendencies/temperament, include: Duct tape, matchstick containers, logs, baggies, junk-removal bags. A medium-sized bag is sometimes used to gather up a damaged container and contents, to be re-hid and left for the CO or a Cache Rescue to take care of, though don’t think we’ve ever done that.
Also, carry a thick skin, as actions often have unintended consequences, and opinions are like……… Expect no ‘thank-yous’, and you won’t be disappointed – if you get them, then welcome the bonus!
Be prepared, make the call that ‘feels right’ when you encounter a situation, and don’t kick yourself after-the-fact.
