Has anyone been doing any caching at Wildcat Mountain State Park since all the rain? The family is coming out for the picnic and I am a bit curious about all of those vampires. Here in Brewtown, I can’t make it from my house to the garage without being attacked. It’s only about fifteen feet. There was a lot more rain out there than we got here. I’m guessing at least one case of Off. Maybe more?

Tell me about it..the skeeters are horrible here in the good ‘ol city.

I’m sorry. Once I get started… A lot of frustration with lack of common sense from government and their departments and agencies.

It’s not good to be angry ALL the time.. 😆 😉

I just sent an e-mail to my State Representative and Senator..

    Straight from Trudy…
Tomah is about 20 miles north and has a variety of accommodations.

Last time we were by Tomah we stopped by the Holiday Inn and ate at the Perkins..we snooped around; the place is pretty snazzy with a great pool/game room, and it really isn’t that expensive..it’s where the 5 of us are staying!! 🙂

Yeah, that’s not north at all. Highway 8 at the very southern edge, if that! LOL

But I agree, that was a fascinating place to visit. We visited it before it was moved as well. It may be that it’s still near the site, though. We didn’t get the clue until we walked away from the cache, which made it more fun.

Mile 50 is pretty darn cool, too. Not too far from Mile 49, actually. Maybe one mile away. 😉 Excellent four stage multi in a lovely spot.

Ah. So it was YOUR log that led us to discover the clue. We were pretty sure we had to go in that way anyway, but your log and the clue just confirmed it..

I, too, am constantly surprised to find Park and Ride / Guardrail / Lamppost caches getting 10-100 times more visits than the many excellent caches in the state. I think this is a result of the focus people put on find statistics. I have come to the conclusion that a majority of geocachers actually prefer spending time in parking lots to spending time in the woods, prairies and marshes around the state. That’s OK, though. It just leaves more space in the woods for us!

    Exactly!!

Pathtags are a somewhat new item, similar to a coin. You have it minted – pretty reasonably priced, at pathtags.com with a design you submit. You then put them in caches or trade online and people keep them rather than moving them like a coin or a TB. They have their own tracking numbers and you can see where they are picked up on a map. We just got ours and love them, we got over 30 in the first month we were trading! Ours turned out better than the picture on the website – ours is on page 44 of the tag gallery. This way, the whole purpose is for someone to keep it! 🙂

Thanks, I’ve been hearing about them quite often..

Travel bug prisons, I agree that is a rather crummy term, but folks do put restrictions on taking stuff in them. I usually try to only take one even if I don’t have one to trade. The reason is I don’t think that the owner of any of those travel bugs put it on their mission for the TB to sit in a cache until someone else had one to trade. Those are “rules” imposed by the cache owner – which in my opinion – are only causing TB’s to sit forever and not move. 🙄 I could care less if somebody takes all the TB’s out of my TB cache, it keeps them going for the owners!! Just my opinion of course… 😀

I think some people are over-the-top at jumping on other people’s backs regarding these types of caches, too, but I guess I just wanted him to go a little further..purely selfish, I do suppose..

And yeah, PCFrog, I guess you’re right..at least they didn’t take him to California!! 🙄

we did Mile 49 while we were staying in Warrens. It was seriously one of the best caches we’ve done so far. But I’m pretty sure they’ve rellocated it now..but at least at the point in which WE found it in, it was pretty amazing..our first ammo box, too..and we got some pretty sweet swag!! 🙂

    Okay. Thanks, Zuma!! 🙂

so yeah, I just released my FIRST TB, the first person to grab it took it 30 mi. in the WRONG direction, and then placed it in what’s referred to as a “TB Prison”..

I suppose it’s my luck..I just expected him to make it to one normal cache before encountering this type of situation.. 🙄

sorry, but what are pathtags? I heard about them at an event but never further pursued their identity..

Yup… blame it on my no-father-good-in-law this time.

The Ice Age Center is about an hour (or so) north of Metro-Milwaukee area, up Hwy. 41 then Hwy. 45.

The people there are great to work with and it is a beautiful area.

Also, there is a great local hamburger stand in Dundee, just up the road from the Ice Age center. You can have a burger and visit the old mill (featured on Extreme Makeover, Home Edition last year).

I should have read this thread before we left for the event today.. luckily we pretty much discovered all of this stuff ourselves anyways..including directions, mill, hamburger stand, and event.

Thanks for the Event!! It was a fun secon event!!!!!! 🙂
