I M so bummed. I had talked to sloughfoot about this cache, after he completed it, then I saw nunsontherun attempted it and completed THE GAUNTLET. This type of cache would have been right up my alley. I was out of town otherwise I would have been in the Dells with the gang from MN attempting it. I can weave a good “tail”. I got hooked on geocaching thanks to a lil otter cache that hit me right in the heart with a primal dart. PS Jeremy, I was talking with Santa tonight, he said get the stable ready for your pony and world peace is on its way! I was requesting gear to prepare for THE GAUNTLET! 😉
I got mine. Being new, it seems this is already activated? When I put my number in it comes up as Origin New York, Taxco, Mexico is where it wants to go. Could someone inform me how to proceed. I plan on taking it to Sheboygan with me on Saturday to release. Thanks.
Cache that was hidden by tall grass a month ago was now easily found surrounded by snow! Have to eat Wheaties to remove cache that is frozen to ground, then realize my pen is frozen and won’t write. (Note to self: carry a pencil when winter caching.)
Signed petition and chance for a TB yesterday, my nephew has had diabetes for 14 years, hoping for that cure too! Viagra TB? Oh My! 😳
I think if you talk to the DNR and the council responsible for SNA’s, I would suggest that if caches are again allowed in those areas that we could educate the public on invasive species, actually be on the lookout when we go in search of an earthcache, virtual or regular cache. Create some type of statement to that effect in the cache description. I know the DNR has invasive species cards. Maybe these could be left in caches for the public to view, to work hand in hand with the DNR on this issue. Also I like the idea of promoting an Event or CIIO, Cache In Invasives Out. The DNR could inform us of the area and we could try to get as many geocachers there to help eradicate the invasives. Anything to help educate the public and assist the DNR with the invasive problem and get caches back to these locations.

Do not be afraid and enjoy life. That’s just what I had told my mom. That motel owner is just lucky that Mr. Braun wasn’t carrying a weapon or he could have been a victim too. I guess I had read the first response as this woman was geocaching, I didn’t realize she was at a shopping mall. Hope the geocacher is doing ok.

She said someone could lure you in the woods and then we would never find you. This was after she thought we would get mauled by bears walking down a trail. I told her possibly we could write a book with her imagination! But seriously, there are some concerns about geocaching alone, so take a dog, carry a cell phone, let someone know where you are going, or find a team to go with.
Thanks for sharing your powerpoint. I learned a lot of new things about geocaching by watching it. By the way, who are the Packers? I plan to share the PP with others.
Thanks Cheesehead Dave! I owe you your favorite cold liquid refreshment if we ever meet. Now I understand why these become POGs and MIA. (Prisoners of Geocachers) Not your everyday geocoin. Thanks for sharing the pics! I also now understand the detail and artistic quality of the coin. I like the puzzle idea too!
What did the last coin look like? What is the number of characters you can have? Was thinking, (on front inside an outline of ammo can or film canister) VA JVFPBAFVA BOFRFFVBA VF N 10 YRGGRE JBEQ (on back side inside outline of state of WI with) TRBPNPUVAT (inside). I just got a World Traveler 2006 Nickel geocoin at geoswag that I’m releasing for $6.47. I’m not a collector, so I would release whatever ones I bought.
Great topic. Since starting the geocaching adventures, after my 1st day I ended at Pheasant Branch Encampment. I wanted to learn more about this location so when I Googled it I came upon Mike’s Birding & Digiscoping Blog. He has recently shared that he was reading, The Creation, An Appeal To Save Life On Earth, by E.O. Wilson. I immediately ordered it online and in the book there is a chapter on “How to Raise a Naturalist.” It made me think back to how I got hooked on nature. It would be great to get some type of curriculum started in WI schools to introduce students to geocaching, be the 1st state to do so, maybe this is already being accomplished and I’m not aware of it. There is an interesting statement that E.O. Wilson makes which made me think of why geocaching is so popular taking you back to early childhood experiences, “Children are born treasure hunters and collectors. Given any access to natural environments, they are likely to start searching for minerals (“gems”), specimens of butterflies and other insects, and small live animals of any kind. Encourage this activity.” He should add the search for geocaches…
Sounds like the Civil War after finding Confederate Spy today. 🙂 I think 2 forums is better than the 4. I found out about your Assoc. when I picked up my 1st geocoin. Team Little Bug had the Assoc. info scrolling on their Profile for User page. It really caught my attention!
My thoughts are with you. Remember you are never alone and Ginger will still be with you while you are caching. She is still a part of your hearts being carried with you at all times.
Being new, I’m already finding too many forums to read. Maybe there is a science to reading them? I would be close to the 4 corner mark and would have to read all 4 forums. I think less is more.
Looking for some geocaching “Camaraderie” to get another Green Jeep into central WI for quick one day stay and then sending it up or down the road.
