I have always been considered a “worker bee”. I am retired but still work part-time as a lunch lady. As far as Geocaching is concerned, I have both hosted and co-hosted CITO events, and numerous community events. Hiding caches for these events is probably the most fun especially if there is a theme.
My favorite event to host is Geocaching 101. I developed a display that I believe shows new and fairly new Geocachers the basics of Geocaching that anyone can understand. I show various containers by size so folks can see what they are looking for. I have held this class at various events, including a Girl Scout group, Sandhill Wildlife Area and West Bend $1000 Cache Bash. I am currently working with the WGA to produce a duplicate Geocaching 101 display so we can educate more areas of Wisconsin.
This past year I did my first Adventure Lab. This is part of the Yellowstone Trail Adventure Lab series. It was quite the learning experience and I plan to do more in the northwest corner of our great state.
I will continue to do events, Geo 101 and volunteering to promote this great adventure for as long as I am able!!!!
01/27/2023 at 2:23 pm in reply to: Candidate Question: Do you support an audit of WGAs finances? #2071270Great question. I am not an accountant by any means but I am on the BOD for my local Lions club and we do have an outside person audit our books on a yearly basis so I would agree to have this done. Thanks.
When I first got into Geocaching I just had the website to go to with questions. I like visual training tools. We had just started Geocaching and were at a cache in River Falls, WI looking for a cache and this car pulled up and this wonderful person got out and said “it’s not over there”. Don and I looked at her and wondered what was going on! This wonderful person turned out to be Jodibee, the absolute BEST Geocaching mentor we could have asked for. She helped us and answered a ton of questions that we had and still have. After about 1 year of caching and attending numerous events I saw the need for a Geocaching 101 display that was geared towards the “beginner” cacher. I have set up this display at quite a few events in Wisconsin and Minnesota.
I believe my strength in WGA Board functions and events would be Geocaching 101. I thought about what I would have liked to have seen when I first started. It consists of a display board, toolbox, and a breakdown of container sizes and varieties, the terms and history of Geocaching. For me if I see it, I understand what I am looking for.
I would also like to see a “Mentor” program started so beginners have a veteran go-to person to call or message like I had in Jodibee. I believe this would keep new cachers from getting frustrated especially when they start to do their own hides. Sometimes its just nice to talk to a person and not have to rely on computers.
My husband and I are a Geocaching team. This has led us to places we would have never visited and to meet people, some in our own small community, that we would never have come in contact with. It was the receptionist at my Acupuncture appointment that first told me about this wonderful adventure. I was very intrigued so I went to Geocaching.com and researched everything I could. I told my husband and we were immediately hooked after we found our first cache about 1 mile from our house. We camp during the summer and usually had nothing going on after camping season ended. Geocaching has enhanced our life “year round”! I am semi retired and Don drives over-the-road. His life on the road is much better since Geocaching. Now, when he is at a rest area or truck stop he searches for caches instead of just sitting in the semi. I travel with him sometimes and we have a blast. We got started a little later in life with this adventure but definitely see us caching as long as the bodies allow us to do so.
We just completed our first Adventure Lab with the Yellowstone Trail Series and we loved doing this. We are planning to do more in the northwest section of the state because there are quite a few small towns with interesting stories to tell.
I love a good debate! It would be extremely boring if everyone thought alike. In my years of experience I believe that if everyone sits down and expresses there true opinion and states their case that a decision can be reached. Obviously, not everyone will be happy at the end, but majority rules and I respect that and will work together to achieve the goal.
I was a District Supervisor for Wendys for almost 20 years and have worked with quite a few different personalities. I am a member of the Roberts Lions Club and have been on their BOD for 9 years in various roles, also serving as President and chair of numerous committees.
Specific, Measureable, Attainable, Realistic, Time bound. This is an acronym for S.M.A.R.T. goals!!
I was very excited to be nominated for the WGA BOD because I believe that there should be a mix of veteran and new cachers. I consider myself a new cacher because I have only been an active member since June 2020. My personal goals for this coming year, besides reaching 2000 finds, is to utilize my Geocaching 101 display as often as possible to educate future cachers about this fabulous game. I plan on duplicating my display for the Board to use in southern Wisconsin.
My goal for the board would be to promote the education of geocaching and events throughout the state. I am retired but work as a lunch lady in my local elementary school and only work “on call” as a trolley driver in Stillwater, MN in the summer, so I have the time to attend meetings (Zoom/Slack?) or in person. Thanks for your consideration.
01/11/2023 at 6:46 pm in reply to: Candidate Question – What cache type describes you best and why? #2071149It’s a toss up between traditional and event caches. Traditional because I am kind of old school and love the thrill of the hunt. Creative containers bring out my “crafty” side. Events because I am a social person and love meeting new people and exploring areas I have yet to discover.
I believe that term limits bring in new and fresh ideas. I also believe that experience makes a difference. I would like to see a mix of new and experienced cachers on the WGA Board. Term limit of 2 years is a good idea because it keeps members interested in running for the board without the long term commitment. A con would be that is someone is doing a fantastic job and their term is up. The opportunity of being able to run again should be an option.
I believe that the WGA does a great job at social media, i.e. Facebook is a great way to share information not only to current Geocachers but also to those who are not familiar with this fabulous game. I can share posts that hopefully get others interested or at least start asking questions.
I would like to see the WGA explore ways to get more of the northern areas of Wisconsin involved in the larger events. Possibly coming up with a MEGA of the North.
