Robin chick #3 finally left the nest at 6am. this morning. Now I wait to see if there’s anymore action at the nest, or if I get the use of my ladder again.
Robin chick #2 abandoned the nest about 6pm. #3 appeared ready to follow but after an hour it has settled back into the nest and looks like it will wait until tomorrow.
Well one of the little robins has flown the nest. He was sitting on the ladder beside the nest and as I approached he took off and landed in the big white pine nearby where his parents were waiting. The other two seem content to keep accepting free meals in the nest.
I always wondered what was the fallback occupation of those people who burn-out after years of thinking up goofy names for mass-market prescription drugs.
I just heard on the TV that Discover Wisconsin is giving away a trip to Adams County. I’m going to have to get right on that.
I think they meant to say Sandland.
Someone’s always complaining
Mrs Robin’s sons
Normally when I’m in the vicinity of the nest Mrs Robin just ignores me, just now when I got out of the car upon returning from the dump she flew off. I took this opportunity to check things out and what had been three little blue eggs is now three little pink almost featherless birds.
I’m confident one of them is Mrs Robin son.
Looking out the window at the Robins on their nest on my ladder on the side of my garage, I see that they are becoming much more attentive to said nest. As one flies up the other flies off – round robin ?
I can hardly wait for the first to hatch, he shall be known as Mrs Robin son.
What a bummer. With another weather cell moving through, I decided to pause my download. When I resumed the download it restarted from the start, another two and a half hours down the tubes. Well I learned that I needn’t worry about trying to save any time. If this thing finishes tonight ok, if it’s in the morning, thats ok too.
I saw no ice droplets in East Sandland. We did get wind and much rain. I was almost at the end of a long download from my slow internet when the connection dropped. I restarted the download again and the internet cut out after another half hour. Another restart and the download is now set to run deep into the night.
Not much else going on around here anyway.
What a great day . Watching the clouds of pollen wafting away from the great red pine on the gentle breeze.
All the pretty birds are now showing up. Last week it was Indigo Buntings, today I had a Scarlet Tanager at the bird bath. I suppose freshening up after the trip.
And of course the Rose Breasted Grosbeaks have been around for a while now.
Had an Indigo Bunting at my “cowbird feeder” today. I used to only see them when they came to the birdbath.
I’m glad I’ve not gotten around to taking the snows off of my pick-up yet.
Found a tick on me this morning. Embedded but dead.
Either my immune system has developed to the point that it kills ticks or the permethrin spray on my jeans from last summer is still somewhat effective. I’m thinking the latter.
