I seldom see a bluejay, maybe one or two a year. I’ve put up a new feeder and the birds seem to really like it. The cats also seem to enjoy having a dozen or so birds to watch at the same time.
My first bird of 2016 is the ‘snowbird’ slate-colored junco, followed closely by chickadee, white and red breasted nuthatch, tufted titmouse and downy woodpecker. A red-bellied woodpecker arrived a few seconds later and all scattered.
I need to take my truck into the shop tomorrow to have the air bag replaced under recall. I’ve often wondered if those things could ever go off when they are being serviced.
If I hear a bang while in the waiting room I’ll have my answer.
I tried out my ATV plow this morning. Works ok but there were two town plows in the area and I didn’t want to go sailing out of my drive in front of one of them plus it’s too large for some spots. I then turned to the snowblower, it gets where the ATV can’t and it works well for cleaning up after the ATV. Then it was shovel time to clean up after both of the time and labor savers.
And then there were christmas cookies to aid energy recovery.
The snow has started. Now there’s nothing to do except sit and wait….and eat christmas cookies.
This may be a false Spring we’ve been having but it sure feels real to my hay fever.
I had almost talked myself into buying a set of Yak Trax when I read the reviews saying that using them for shoveling snow on a concrete surface will lead to premature failure. That is exactly what my primary use is.
I’ve come up with another solution to the Due North cleat problem. I read somewhere that one can buy a box of 100 spare cleats for $60+. Then all I have to do is replace cleats every time I use them. 😀
We have Yak Traxx and they’ve worked out well for us. Thanks for the heads up!
I have often wondered how Yak Traxx worked. It seemed to me that the steel wire would just slide on ice but it must not. With the Due North the spikes dig into the ice. At least until now that they have cheapened the spikes so that they break off.
–PRODUCT ALERT– I needed a new set of ice cleats because my old ones didn’t fit over the toe cap of my Keen waterproof boots. I’ve used DueNorth brand for years and found them to be very durable so I got a pair of DueNorth Everyday Pros because they have a molded toecap.
Do Not buy these. In one wearing 5 of the 12 cleats have broken off. You get 2 spare cleats with each set, I don’t think that will be much help.
Looks a little icy out there this morning. I believe that my driveway will need to get lightly salted.
Just as long as he doesn’t win a historical contest.
I was trying to think of a reason to post #7999……….
Nope can’t think of any.
c:geo There are others but this was always pretty good.
It’s hard to believe but I’ve seen a few flurries in the air this morning, it’s only mid December.
A second mouse has fallen to the trap in my garage. It seems that they just can’t resist the siren song of peanut butter.
