When I was on remote sites overseas, fried spam showed up on many of my sandwiches.

Ah the dilemma, yesterday it was too hot and sticky to mow lawn. Today it’s too nice.

A walnut tree in my mothers yard was blown over about 15yrs ago.

I made a coffee table for her out of some of the wood.

Discovered yesterday that I have a bluebird in the bluebird house.

Walked past it and was almost hit in the head by a blue missile.

Most years I spend the summer trying to clean the twigs out of it as fast as the wrens try to fill it.

Seven-tenths in the East- sandland rain gauge.

The mini terrorists around here have nothing to eat except dandelions.

    They love their dandelions.

Years ago I had a friend who didn’t have a rain gauge. He used to judge the rainfall by the amount of water in a bucket out back.

If memory serves me we got quite a few 6-7″ rainfalls.

I was born and raised in central Wisconsin and never saw a tick until I was 22yrs old. At that time I was in the army and in Minnesota. I probably didn’t see another for another 20yrs.

Today I did some work in the back yard and picked two off me after supper. Yesterday I got my mail out of the mailbox and there was one on my mail. Last night I detected one on me at about 1am, it waited until morning.

I guess I need to do some caching, at least when I am out in the woods I’ve got some protection.

I saw my first hummingbird of the season this morning. He was humming about in the columbines at the edge of the woods.

Will have to get the feeders out.

The tent caterpillars which have been missing from my yard for the last few years have returned. They went away shortly after we treated for the Gypsy Moth and I was hoping that they were gone for good.

Alas they are back and pitching their tents way too high for me to do much about it.

    My Scarlet Tanagers are back.

Spotted one at the bird bath freshening up after his long trip.

While working in the back yard this afternoon I noticed two wood ticks on a box of parts beside me. I ignored them for a while but then decided to test the permethrin treatment on my jeans.

I picked each of them up and put them on my pant leg. I didn’t see where they went but they didn’t stick around.

I think my calendar is broke. I’m glad I didn’t pay anything for it.

I don’t believe it. There are flurries in the air, mixed with light rain.

GC.com has really got it screwed up now. I don’t visit there very often but now I can’t find anything.

I wish that when they have nothing to do they would just take the day off instead of trying to fix something that isn’t broke.

I have a friend who told me that he had an inch of rain Tuesday night. He lives a few miles South of me (subSaharan East sandland ?) so I don’t know how accurate this is for me. Anyway it reminded me to put out my rain gauge.

Wednesday night -.6″, yesterday and last night -1.6″.

It looks like the drought is over until the winds dry everything out next week.
