Finished cooking (and chilling) chili, and as long as I’m logged in, sneak in a FTP for 3/1? May see some of you in Stevens Point later.

It looks like if you go to a main forum category, you can start new thread from the bottom of the page. So for example, go to https://wi-geocaching.com/forums/forum/geocaching-in-wisconsin/off-topic/ and scroll to very bottom.

After a pause in the long standing game at the beginning of 2024, the WGA Lonely Cache Game (LCG) is ready to hit play at wi-geocaching.com/lonely-cache-game The game has been relaunched in a new format as of October 1. Long term plans are to further streamline the entry form as part of an overall website revamp. For now, the game will be utilizing a Google form to submit your lonely cache entries. Any Wisconsin cache last found over a year ago is eligible to earn points, so head out and search out some lonelies!

LCG is still a work in progress, still on the radar of the board of directors and the committee. Unfortunately, with this being a volunteer run organization, sometimes projects don’t move along quite as quick as we’d like them to when juggling everyone’s schedules.

Thanks for the feedback coming in! 4 of us on the committee are current lonely cache game and cache rescue participants – myself, Lacknothing, chevyole, and BigJim60. We’re compiling the feedback from here, Facebook, and those that have directly messaged us and evaluating a lot of ideas to find ways the games can continue to be successful moving forward.

There isn’t a 101 board in the trailer. One set is typically stored in the northwest part of the state and another in southeast. If still needed a presentation, I’ve pulled the 101 powerpoint from https://wi-geocaching.com/educational-materials/ and tweaked to my specific audience.

I believe the minutes post should now be working again.

01/28/2023 at 8:48 pm in reply to: Candidate Question: Do you support an audit of WGAs finances? #2071283I’m not familiar with what the cost of an outside audit would be. With the current balance and number of transactions, if transactions and bank accounts are transparent and available for the rest of the board to review, I don’t know that a formal outside audit would be needed. Is there currently a process for a formal internal audit? Are the books tracked in an accounting software or Excel spreadsheet that is available to be reviewed upon request?

01/28/2023 at 8:06 pm in reply to: Candidate Question: Are you in favor of refreshing the WGA State Park Series? #2071282Our family has been using the WGA geocache series as part of our guide to continue exploring new-to-us state parks each year. I definitely would like to see a series remain as we have been working on being able to check off all the parks. If there is a good reason to revise/replace some of them, I’d be willing to explore, but would like to see the series continue at least in some form.

01/28/2023 at 8:00 pm in reply to: Candidate Question: Have You Proved Yourself as a Worker Bee? #2071281I have conducted a geocaching 101 class twice at the local library, as well a geocaching basics presentation to the local mens club. I helped with hides at the last spring picnic and have held 3 events of my own. I look forward to helping continue to improve geocaching in Wisconsin.

I’m currently a library associate at a small branch in a countywide system, so though I have support from outside my own branch, I’m used to wearing many hats and figuring out things as I go. I’m not afraid to dig in to research to figure out a solution. My original career path started with a hospitality and tourism degree with a goal to be a meeting planner, so I also enjoy planning events, something the WGA takes a lead on several times a year. In between those pieces of my career path, I fell into the IT realm, being the translator between the business side of meeting planning and the technical side of website and database programmers. So I’m not afraid to try out any tech that comes along.

Geocaching has led our family to places we wouldn’t have otherwise have found. Early in our geocaching tale, we took the canoe along on a vacation just so we could get to an island in a lake we didn’t realize was there until looking at the geocaching map. We had a great time exploring and was just the start of using geocaching to help us plan out vacations. Even the kids, who sometimes take a bit of convincing to go out geocaching have figured it out. Assigned them to plan a day trip to Milwaukee last summer and sorting a list of geocaches in the area by favorite points was one of the tools they used – and found black cat alley (which none of us knew about before) and the safe house (which the parents had known about, but kids got to discover) which were among the highlights of the day. It’s also an extra reason to get out and get some exercise, especially during our Wisconsin winters. Even if it’s not always a long hike, geocaching gets me outdoors and moving more often than I otherwise would have. Through events, it’s also helped meet people that I’d likely never had met and gotten to know. I enjoy the variety of backgrounds and personalities that get into geocaching. You never know who you’ll meet at the next event.
I do plan on this continuing to be a hobby for a long time. How active may vary month to month, especially as the ones closest to home are found, but it’s always just an app away to see if there is a geocache nearby when on your next traveling adventure.

I’d like to help WGA continue to promote geocaching throughout the state and keep the game interesting to both new and experienced geocachers.
My personal goals are to continue to work on filling all the open calendar dates and state park series. I’m slowing working through solving the WGA geo-art series puzzles over the winter so I can make those finds before it’s retired later in the year. And though I don’t expect to make the top of the LCG points list by the end of the year, I always enjoy the challenge of getting out and finding (or at least trying) a few of the lonelies each time a new list comes out.
I’ve declined a nomination in the past due to concern of having enough time to commit to the board. However, with my list of soccer board responsibilities getting shorter this year, I do finally feel I’d now have the time for WGA.

01/13/2023 at 8:32 pm in reply to: Candidate Question – What cache type describes you best and why? #2071174I could find reasonings to pick several options from the list, but leaning towards earthcache as I enjoy teaching others and sharing knowledge, and often enjoy the journey along the way.
