Unfortunately, that information is only visible to demi-gods like me, not mere mortals. Russell, your membership expires 04/19/2006. You can go to the membership page (click here) and follow the instructions above the form to renew. If anyone else really needs to know when their membership expires, email me instead of posting here, jeremy at wi-geocaching.com.
Note that the whole renewal issue will go out the window in the future. Just like the FBI/Big Brother, we will keep track of your every move, including when you log into the site. So basically, you’ll just have to visit at least once per year to keep your membership in good standing (unless the Board decides to change the definition of membership to require something else)… there will be no separate renewal process.

Boy Randy, what are you doing up at 7:30 in the morning? That’s really early!

Can we see a list of caches and the votes they received? I know it was close, and I’m interested in how so….
I’m sure Jeff R. (arcangl7) will post the complete results soon in a new topic. He is the current administrator of COTM/COTY, so I don’t want to steal his “job” and post the results here (even though I can see them).
The votes have to be checked one last time… also there are more comments on the winning cache that he can choose to have displayed on the COTY page.
I’ve got to second this recommendation. This cache has a great hike, a water hazard to prevent you from heading straight to the cache that requires you to approach the cache strategically or at least follow the instructions from the owner (kind of like a golf course), an alternative water approach option for canoeists, and a great view as a reward at the end. Central WI cachers should put this one on their to-do list.
And to answer Honeybunnies question… this was my 802nd cache find not 800, but I wish I could have hit a milestone at such an enjoyable and memorable cache.
Edit: Yes
Delete: No(Extra comments that I can edit out later if Russ doesn’t like them…
I think the ability to edit your own posts is essential, even though this opens up a backdoor for post deletion. This is especially true with the current forum software because there is no “preview” feature. When trying to do links, bulleted lists, and other fancy stuff I usually get it wrong about half the time, and I can’t tell it is wrong until it has been submitted.
And yes, the new forum software lets members create polls and attach them to a forum topic. I believe it is restricted to one poll per topic, but I could be wrong.
Any edit/delete restrictions the membership wants and the Board can sign off on can be implemented immediately with the current software.)

Yes, there was a “bug” where the cache name was sometimes not being highlighted in red after a vote was cast. Miata let me know about this and it was fixed a week or two ago.
I can tell you that you won’t be able to vote for COTM/COTY twice in the future, will have information on which cache you voted for, and have the capability to delete your vote and vote for a different cache.

No, the two leading candidates had 12 votes a piece… by my count, 50 votes have been cast for Cache of the Year so far.
And now the two leaders are tied at 13 each.
One last bump. We currently have a tie for Cache of the Year… I’m sure one of the two leaders would appreciate an (unlucky) 13th vote.
Thanks guys. With the warm weather I’ve been able to keep adding to my numbers when normally I’ve gone dormant.
But I really wish we’d get a foot of snow, have sub-zero temps, and NO event caches scheduled… this would force me inside and give me time to finish off the “new” WGA website before things get real busy in the spring.
I imagine the numbers stopped changing when the style and profile changes were made on geocaching.com.
Knowing what I know about how H.O.B. gets the stats, the changes to the profile pages mean that some of Brew’s grabber code will have to be modified, possibly significantly. I hope he finds the time to get the website running again as it is a valuable resource. Even though it is not about the numbers and such a stats display will probably never be officially approved for the WGA site, I (and many other geocachers I know) do like to peek at the numbers from time to time.
I should mention that the extra line only appears in Firefox and Mozilla browsers. Folks using IE do not see it, though they probably see a blue border around the image instead of a black one.

This should not be too hard to police with as few people voting as we have.
Yes, there are a lot fewer people voting in our election versus say a Presidential election, which does make it easier to police.
However, if there is fraud in any sized election, it undermines the entire political system. People become disinterested, feel that they don’t have a voice, and then don’t even bother voting and participating. Hence the reason that the Board wanted to assure members that voting fraud would not be tolerated, just as the “real” government works hard to keep its elections fair (though there are problems from time to time).
The fraud concerns were raised by several members, not the Board itself. These are valid concerns (members should not blindly trust the Board), and the Board was right to address the issue.
Eggcellent! Please post a link to the cache page when it is approved and listed.
Fu, I just have to know, will you be wearing an (Easter) bunny suit, or at least the cute bunny ears you have?

It would seem to me that while individual positions on the board assume different responsibilities, it is the board as a whole that makes vital decisions. This being said, each board position is equally important.
This is exactly right… the officers have some special roles and extra tasks to perform, but they have no more power than any of the other Board members (i.e. they still have only one vote on Board matters). There aren’t multiple branches of governance in the WGA (thank God), so it is not like the President can veto proposals or make unilateral decisions without consulting the Board.
Because all Board members have the same power, we decided to let the Board work out who would be responsible for what. This is similar to how the Board is allowed to determine who will lead efforts like event planning, geocoins, etc. The Board is not giving individual board members more power, just dividing up the work that it has to get done.
If the members really want to choose the officers, I would suggest that this be done in a separate election after the 9 board members are set for the year… however, I think the current system is working fine.
Bump.
A friendly reminder that voting for Cache of Year will be closing on Tuesday, January 31st… so get your votes in!
