It also looks like Jim Hyatt is also placing “society member only” multistage geocaches in the Nature Center (these caches are not listed on geocaching.com).
Check out one of their newsletters on their website for more details…

Thanks for the link Randy. The scientists in the WGA labs are now experimenting with this technology to give Tami a way of giving virtual hugs from the Ecorangers for milestone achievements.
When I went to sign up way back in 2000 (user #41!), I was surprised to find the ‘handle’ I wanted, Jeremy, was already taken. Later I would learn why it was already in use. What are the odds?
I’ve considered changing my handle to something more creative (and more memorable and easier to spell) a couple times, but never went through with it…

So, is this new forum software, or did someone just figure out how to regroup the topics?
It is still the same old forum software. It was just a regrouping of the forums into categories… this was something Jeff Rahmlow (aka arcangl7/Team GeoPink) has been asking/pushing for since getting elected to the Board. This is sort of in preparation for switching to new forum software which will require us to assign all forums to categories.
If you don’t like the categories that were selected or have ideas on how to better group the forums, feel free to post here.

Curious, is there a way to get notification when a thread you post to is replied to?
When you create a new topic/thread, there is a checkbox at the bottom which lets you get email notification when anyone posts reply messages to it. You currently cannot set it up to send you emails when you reply to a topic someone else has created.
I believe the new forum software does have this notification feature. But you still must post first, you cannot “watch” a topic without participating (though this probably could be added if there was interest).

jvechinski…….I need a house call!! roflmbo
I’m not an expert on going paperless… but it might be nice to have an informal presentation on the subject at the Great Northwoods Gathering 2 for the up north folks (should be plenty of time to do this while warming up after the caching!). I’d be willing to help out with coordinating this, or Marc may want to do it if he is attending.
And Fu, if you are going to be in the Milwaukee area I do make house calls.
Coin sales were closed at midnight last night.
Preliminary figures are 1380 coins sold, though this may exceed 1400 after we resolve the status of some questionable orders that we haven’t received payment for yet. The number of coins sold far exceeded our expectations (we were worried about selling 500 coins to break even ), and based on the success of this sale I would say it is highly likely the WGA will have another one next year.
Thanks to everyone who ordered coins and we’ll be working on getting them made and shipped ASAP!
A reminder… tomorrow is the last day that you can order your 2005 Wisconsin geocoins. The store is set to stop accepting orders at midnight tomorrow night.
We will do a final tally of orders over the weekend and then contact geocaching.com and the coin company on Monday to kick off the process of getting our tracking numbers and getting the coins minted.
Coin orders have been slowing down. The current count of coins sold is about 1250.
If you intend on paying by check, I would suggest getting your order in prior to the 10th of October. We are thinking of limiting payment to Credit / Pay-Pal only once we open sales up to everybody.
Check/Money Order Payment Option To Dissappear
Right now, the WGA online store is allowing members to pay via check or money order. However, we will disable this payment option when we start allowing orders from everyone on October 10th. (We don’t want to deal with out-of-state checks and non-payment issues.)
So if possible, get your check or money order type orders in this weekend. If this is a problem for you and you absolutely must pay this way, contact the WGA treasurer (treasurer [at] geocaching.com). We will make exceptions for WGA members if necessary…

Anne just told me that her geocaching.com password was (but is no longer) the same as her WGA membership password, which I recently sent to her because she was having trouble logging into the WGA store. We are speculating that somehow someone saw or intercepted this email message and then used this password on geocaching.com.
For this reason, for all future password requests I will reset the password for the account in question to a random value and then send the new password. I will not send existing password values, even if you ask really, really nice and I know you. (Sorry Anne for my contribution to this security breach. I should have known better.)
This situation is also serves as a good lesson on why using the same password on multiple sites is not a good idea. If only one of the sites is compromised or hacked, the hacker can use the password found there to gain access to all of your accounts.
Anne has already changed her geocaching.com password, which will hopefully prevent this from happening again.
And definitely contact geocaching.com… they log information each time a message is sent, which may be able to lead them back or at least give them a general idea of who the perpetrator might be.
Everyone who posted a request for help here should have received an email from me that hopefully solves your problem.
One thing to remember is that the online store is looking for your WGA membership account. This is different than your WGA forum account, which is used to post messages here. You can have different username/nicknames and/or passwords for these two accounts because they are completely independent. (I know this is confusing… I would probably be befuddled myself if it weren’t for the fact that I participated in the creation of this mess.)
Also, we aren’t tied into geocaching.com, so just because you have an account there doesn’t mean that you have one here. (Or that your WGA accounts have the same username or password as you use on geocaching.com.)
Again, if you can’t get logged into the WGA Store 2, forgot your WGA membership password, etc. you can give me a shout directly… jeremy [at] wi-geocaching.com.

28 have been sold already! Brian Geoffrey (Tie) or I will post updated sales figures once in awhile.
Props to smokey & the teacher for the FTB (first to buy… Board members excluded). And Professor of the Ecorangers just missed the FTB by 1 minute.
Westernmost point is also claimed to be Cape Alava, WA. I looked at going there last year when I was in Seattle but it was just too remote.

While out caching with the Echos at the Way up Nord event Saturday (thanks for letting me ride in your truck ), Jim mentioned they may hit this milestone during the event… but I didn’t hear that they actually made it until now.
After spending a day with them, it is clear these folks really enjoy caching and do it for all the “right” reasons… they aren’t in it for the numbers and probably aren’t terribly excited about this awesome acheivement. They are also some of the nicest geocachers you’ll meet in the state.
What an excellent event! I would definitely make a return trip next fall if it were held again.
Anne really was the “hostess with the mostest” (or the “Energizer Bunny” ), staying up late at night to keep people entertained around the campfire and then getting up early in the morning to get coffee (and a full breakfast on Sunday) going. She was always doing something to make sure the residents of Camp Catch-a-Cache were fed, dry, and happy. It will probably take her the rest of the week to recover from all the activity and the lack of sleep…
And I can’t forget Dan, who helped with the placement of the many temporary caches. These caches were all quality hides that could have been listed as permanent caches on geocaching.com. There was also a lot of variety in the hides, with a couple “urban” type caches in bustling Crivitz, woods caches with longer hikes in Veterans Falls and Twin Bridges parks, and creative and tricky “mini micro’s” at Sandstone Falls Dam.
