As Brian mentioned, we cannot easily change this page. But, you can see the posts from the last 5 days by running a search. Click the “Search” link at the top of the forums page, then select “Since 5 Days Ago” in the “Search By Date” combo box, and finally press the “Perform Search” button. The downside to this approach is that it is slow…

The UBB software we are using for the forums does not have the ability to autogenerate a RSS XML file, though this could probably be added with some effort. If we switched forum software, this would probably come for free… though such a switch would require the approval of the Board. (Therefore, lobby the Board members if you want the feature added. )
Fixed.
Thanks for pointing this out… the server clock was about 11 minutes fast.
The server clock is now being synchronized automatically using the Network Time Protocol (NTP), so it should be accurate to less than a second.
As a test, I’m posting this at exactly 9:40pm… let’s see if the server gets it right!
Bump.
Just a reminder that today is the last day to vote in the 2004 Board of Directors election. No votes will be accepted after midnight tonight.
I know a lot of you have voted already, but if you haven’t yet, please get your votes in!
I will post the results of the election tonight for those who are anxious to see who the next Board members will be.
Several people were confused by the fact that the Cache of the Year voting form appeared on the Cache of the Month page. To address these concerns, the Cache of the Year voting has been moved to a separate page.
Click here (http://wi-geocaching.com/cotm/coty.php) to cast your vote.
If you’ve already voted, don’t worry, we still have your vote!

Great idea Tony! Actually, I’m in the process of revamping the Events page as part of setting up a new registration system for the 2004 campout. As part of this change, I’ll incorporate a way to add links to non-WGA sponsored events. If we want to get ambitious, we could also allow non-WGA sponsored events to use our registration system (it would make it easier for others to tally up the planned attendees).

Sorry guys… the date range for the January 2004 COTM “poll” wasn’t set up properly, so the form that allows you to vote was not appearing. The problem has been corrected. Thanks for pointing this out!
Also, no one has voted for COTM yet this month, so please get your votes in…
Sorry for the confusion. Yes, I could make it smart enough not to display the ‘The following WGA members have 1 nomination and are looking for a second.’ sentence when there isn’t anyone with one nomination. I will make this change the next time I’ve got to make updates to the election system.
The other thing that has tripped people up is that when you nominate someone for the first time they do not automatically appear in the list of people with one nomination. It clearly states this when you make the nomination, but some people ignore this message. Basically, I make sure the person nominated is eligible and also send out an email asking them whether they want to serve on the Board… until I hear they accept the nomination, their name is not listed on the elections page.
Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain…
Well OK, for those that are interested, the WGA website runs on a dedicated web server housed at ElkNet. (Everyone should post a reply here thanking Alan for providing the websever and webhosting to the WGA for free! ) After a server meltdown in July of this year, the website was moved to a new rack based server. (Alan, feel free to correct any of this info…)
As for the possibility these forums will start slowing down, it is unlikely in the short term.
First, we are running a different version of UBB (UBB.classic) on our own web server. Even though it is “old school”, this version has the advantage of only serving up simple HTML files when people are reading the forums. Geocaching.com (Groundspeak) is running UBB.x (database based), and letting InfoPop take care of hosting the forums. I think InfoPop is screwing geocaching.com over by not providing a webserver that is sufficiently powerful enough to handle peak loads and/or there is some bandwidth limitation at InfoPop.
Second, the number of hits per day, members, and posts we have is significantly less than the Groundspeak forums. Last month, there were about 136,000 “hits” for the forums part of the website (4,500 per day or one every 20 seconds). These hits were about 47% of the total hits we got that month, making the forums by far the most used area of the website.
I’m betting geocaching.com will move back to hosting their forums themselves. This way they’ll have control over the hardware (webserver) and bandwidth used. After having a bad experience with InfoPop, they’ll probably go with some other vendor, possibly using a free solution like phpBB.

Funny you should make this comparison because food and beverages are banned in several SNAs. Here is a list from the DNR rules… I have also seen signs to this effect at other SNAs.
PARFREY’S GLEN, NATURAL BRIDGE, ROCHE–A–CRI MOUND,AND PEWIT’S NEST STATE NATURAL AREAS. (a) No person may possess or consume any food or beverage in the Parfrey’s Glen state
natural area, Natural Bridge state natural area, Roche–A–Cri Mound state natural area and Pewit’s Nest state natural area. It’s mine Ken… how embarrassing :O. I was the second to last “team” to leave the shelter (Brian’s entourage was the last). As I was just about to leave, I remembered I brought that container and looked for it on the food table. When it wasn’t there, I figured it got thrown out or was accidentally taken by someone else.
Ken, I’ll contact you via email to make arrangements for pickup.
Since some people have posted what they plan to bring here, and others have posted in different topics, and some people have emailed me directly, I figured I better summarize the donations that we have to date. If I omitted a donation you previously told me about or if you want to donate something but haven’t informed me yet, please post here.
Bottled Water
A number of people are bringing water, but we could use a little more. We may put bottled water out at remote locations (like the Mothership cache), so we could use some of the smaller bottles of water.

“The Hidden Castle”
1996Apparently this castle is so well hidden that a sign is needed near the driveway to point it out to those who pass by.
I’ll donate a LED headlamp and some Platypus water bottles as door prizes.
Ray, you might want to contact TopoGrafix to see if they’ll give us a license to ExpertGPS to give away like they did last year. Be sure to mention that we use ExpertGPS to create custom maps showing the temporary caches and to download waypoints to participants’ GPSRs. (CacheCows would know more about who they contacted to get the license last year.)
The deskcription fur this forum has done been updated as yous requested Mr. Grammer Nazi. (In school, us webmasters never took no liking to words; centences; and such. )
