Welcome to the group Lisa. Based on the current campout registration list, there will be several other non-Wisconsinites at the event. (People will be coming in from IL, IA, and MI.)
I would be willing to extend WGA “membership” to anyone who has ever hunted a cache in Wisconsin, irregardless of where they live… the more people we can attract to these events, the better.

I think we can get something set up on the WGA website to collect payments from members… shouldn’t be too hard, right CacheCows? Going to a pay to play format would allow some Wisconsin geocachers to quit their current jobs and go caching full time. What a great idea Brian!

Sorry for the confusion caused by my name. I’m thinking of changing it to ‘Not Jeremy Irish’ Vechinski. What do you guys think?
The other Jeremy is a soon to be dot-com millionaire (thanks to his pay-to-play scheme ) living in Seattle. I’m just a guy from Milwaukee.
I think $30/year is reasonable for us ‘serious’ cachers. My big concern is that requiring people to pay will slow the growth of the sport. If all the good caches are for ‘members-only’ then newcomers who decide to try out the sport before becoming a member will be disappointed. Hopefully a large number of caches will remain free to help lure others in…
It’s nice there is a $3/month membership trial option, but in some cases even this small amount (and the hassle of signing up) may be a deterrent to new cachers.

No I honestly couldn’t find Ottawa Panorama Sam. (Glad it made you feel better!) I’m going to have to go out there and give it another try… from the recent posts it seems like it is now a little easier.
My most difficult find still has to be the River Cache, which I found after a difficult hike (I cut across the valley… should have checked the topo) and after looking for 30 minutes in a thunderstorm.

I placed a cache (Wy Not Wyalusing?) in Wyalusing State Park last summer without the permission of the park superintendent (or anyone else).
The superintendent did find out about it a month later and send me an email. He was actually happy I placed the cache in the park… he went out and found it himself and had a good time. He did suggest that I ask permission in the future to make sure a cache was not placed in a ‘fragile’ area (unique plantlife, etc.). (What he said seem to mirror the official position from the DNR that the CacheCows posted.)
So it might be best to determine the place where you want put the cache first, then contact the superintendent of the park to ask permission to put the cache at that specific location.
