We lucked out here in Kenosha, at least the part right next to the lake where I live. When I came home from school last night the roads were pretty bad, and it was coming down pretty hard. I went to bed around 11:00 and there was about an inch and a half to two inches on all the surfaces, but the temperature was 43°. I woke up this morning to green grass, and no snow at all. Nothing! Everything was wet and looked like it had just rained all night.

An I live in Waterford, one county up and over on the far west of Racine caounty, we have atleast eight with it still coming down. The’re plowing our condos for the second time!

While this is the wrong time to talk about this, I thought this community would be interested in knowing about several new tick-borne diseases identified in Wisconsin this past year.

The state identified 21 cases of Ehrlichia chaffenensis. This disease was thought to be endemic far south of here but with the onslaught of cases, the state is doing some tests to identify if this disease is now continually present in Wisconsin.

The more interesting disease involves 3 cases of Ehrlichia muris. This disease has apparently not been identified in the US before (with cases originally identified in Japan). Two of the cases were in Burnett County and one was from Eau Claire County. The Center for Disease Control in Atlanta has asked for a pint of blood from each of these cases as they are quite interested in this. Investigators were also up here in Burnett County during deerhunting, – collecting ticks at deer registration stations. They will also be coming up in the spring to collect ticks and I hope to be part of some of these efforts.

Both diseases have symptoms similar to our more common Ehrlichiosis (which was renamed several years ago to Anaplasma phagocytophilia) and do not appear to have any chronic forms.

Thanks for the heads up! I just got over my first case of Lyme Disease and will have to watch out for these!

I’ll be tucked inside my house. Now that the white craphas arrived, I doubt I’ll be driving anywhere now. I think my caching days are over till summer.

Isn’t that why we place the P&G’s!

I just shut one down for the winter. I think it will be dangerous on some of the stages for a multi I have so down it went. Other than that I leave them up even if they will be covered by snow. That is the enviroment we have chosen to live in. Each cacher will decide if they want to play in the snow and ice!

    Those are fun aren’t they.

To play the teacher role (it comes so naturally)…who’s fault is it that you’re not prepared? 😀

I thought I was prepared until I looked at the test and said c***! Talking to the rest of the class, not too many are confident about that one. Lucky we can take one test over. This will probably be it.

I love Angel Food candy, but I’m liking the sound of those chocolate covered chocolate chip cookie dough balls. Each year we make white chocolate covered pretzles.

My sister-in-law makes them. It is the only thing I ever ask her to make! When I was first dating Jerrys Mom, she was not a very good cook, she was still a teenager. It is still our running joke, but those chocolate covered chocolate chip cookie dough balls are to die for!

Welcome to this great hobby of ours. Somehow this turned into a “I lost my glasses post” so I’ll add my name to the count!

    Jerrys Mom, her mother and her sisters all baked yesterday. My favorites are;

    1) chocolate covered chocolate chip cookie dough balls
    2) almond cookies
    3) peanut brittle
    4) pistachio pudding pie
