First I would “absorb” the request. Is it a logical idea, something to consider?
I would then present the idea to the BOD for input on the request, crediting the members that initiated the idea. I would also find out from the original members that shared their idea if they would want to spearhead the request, if action is needed. If it can enhance the game, and is good for the membership as a whole, GREAT!This is the ideal for your question. Unfortunately, it doesn’t always go as planned!
If I disagreed on it, I would still present it to the BOD. It is a voting body that represents the membership and should be governed as such.
I think that empathy may be the strong suit. I have dealt with many people in many different life situations, and have acted as counselor, therapist, needs anylizer, and problem solver. I haven’t always enjoyed those roles, but what is necessary doesn’t need to be fun. And I’ve found out that you don’t need to like someone to learn from them.
As geocaching grows and changes, the leadership will need to adapt, too. It isn’t easy to change, but empathizing with the situations that arise will be challenging, as well as rewarding.
Only a few more votes to hit 10,000! 😀
Welcome to the hunt! 😀
WTG! 😀
One of my coins showed up as a gift for a grade-schoolers birthday! The geocaching mom e-mailed me that it would be put in a cache soon, after 10 monthes of being “missing”!
You never know… 🙂
And he is almost +200 votes!! 😀
I would vote for Brian Kling. The reason being that what computer talent I lack, I know that he excels in. You need a good mix of talents and ideas to function properly as a Board.
I may change my mind if a few more qualified people are nominated, and I hope there are even more nominations yet to come. All the candidates seem well qualified at this time. For your first question, I mentioned a few things in my Candidate Corner profile.
For your second question, I try to seek all varieties of hides. If it is a tough puzzle, I will ask around or go with another cacher or 2. I’m alot less “techie”, and more “outdoorsie” as a geocacher, so if you want technical advice, ask someone else!
WTG! A ton-and-a-half ain’t far off! 😀
I’ve seen this question a few times, about “promoting geocaching”. Or “being a supporter of geocaching”.
We tend to support our hobbies by the time commitment or belief that we have in them. I’ve shared the hunt with new people that just “don’t get it”, and others that go out and buy a GPS the next day!
The best way to promote this geocaching-thing is to find out what cachers hope to get out of it. We can promote physical fitness, the great outdoors, technology, trackables, the WGA…but different cachers have different likes.
Technology does supply a bit of geocaching knowledge through smart phone perks, but I don’t believe that helps the game. The best way to promote the hunt is to be continuously asking questions of those involved, and acting on the input received; keeping the integrity of geocaching in the spotlight at all times.
I’ve enjoyed the posted articles and TV spots that have been shared in the Forums. A good way to promote geocaching is to drop a line to your local newspaper/ television station for human interest stories. The recent Oshkosh item was a quick print, with only about 4-5 days lag time. Our local paper did a piece for Mothers Day which was started in early April, so we don’t always have control over how fast our promotional efforts are moving.
But one-on-one may be the best way to promote geocaching. By edging it into a conversation with a person you have build some trust with, you can sense their interest. Even if the WGA has an info kiosk at a gathering, the face time with a new person puts us in a good light.
I look forward to additional input from the other candidates!
+77 now! 😀
Looking good, as we added 1 more! 😀
