Well after checking the specs on the Oregon 550t I discovered that it is not Mac compatible. The only Mac compatible Oregon that I found was the 450. Is this still a pretty good unit for geocaching or should I start looking at a different make / model of GPSr?
Well after 24 hours all three caches have had their FTFs logged. People were right – it was a real treat reading the log entries and knowing that the person who found them enjoyed their hunt.
I’ve already scouted a few more spots for new geocaches that I might go and setup this weekend. I can tell this is going to be a long term addiction. Hiding them is certainly a lot of fun.

Drop your phone on a rock or into a creek and then decide. I have had the same Garmin for 5 years and have done both several times.
Its this exact fear that has me looking into a GPSr. I was looking at the Garmin Oregon series and I really like the features of the 550t. Now with these devices do I still load the cache data onto the device or do I have to print out the sheets and enter the coordinates by hand?
Yeah I am anxiously awaiting those emails 🙂
Hopefully everyone has a good experience with them, and if these three work out well I will be setting up more in the fall.
Well the wife and I went out and hid three caches this morning so now its just wait for the reviewers over at geocaching.com to approve them.

Hey der! AHS class of ’66 here. Although I don’t live in the area any more, I do have a few caches there…get around to checking on them when I visit the relatives. Welcome to the game…am looking forward to some new caches on my next visit 😀
You did the Antigo Lake Park cache right? That was an evil, evil cache! It took me and my wife three tries before we finally found it, good hide on that one.

Welceome to the adventure. We are up in Eagle River so hope to see you up in our neck of the woods some day. We enjoy caching in the Antigo area. Maybe we will meet on the trail some day soon.
Timberline EchoesI grew up in a small town off of Hwy 139 which is not too far from Eagle River if you take 70 east and then take 139 south to a tiny little town called Newald. I am slowly introducing my parents to the game and want to take them up the Eagle River area on a caching run, do you know of any geocaches by interesting natural features like waterfalls and stuff that you could recommend?
Ok well then I will go out and find the spot where I want to hide the caches and send the form in with the coordinates. I suppose I can always go back out and take the cache down if the DNR rejects it.
I noticed on the form that it says that caches are not allowed in state natural areas and to be safe I checked the list for Langlade count and my spots are not listed there so tomorrow I go and setup the geocaches.
I found the URL I needed to for the profile so that is taken care of. I found an area to setup a geocache so hopefully I will hear back from the DNR tomorrow on whether or not geocaches are allowed there. Once I get the go ahead to set it up I will run out there and hide it, then post it on geocaching.com.
Thanks for the warm welcome everyone!
