I have a similar story with my daughter Stubbs13. For one of her classes she did a report on the first geocacher. I learned something from her on that one. In science class she did a project on satellites and how they work with the gps. Her enthusiasm for geocaching must have been pretty infectious because she caught her teaching checking out the GC.com website during class. He said he couldn’t wait until his son was a little older to take him out.
As a family it has been great for us. I bought my first State Park sticker in probably 20 years. I’m sure we visited at least 10 state parks this year, and some were revisited multiple times. I’m sure we are creating some childhood memories they will never forget.

Maybe I should place another cache in the area just in case it’s needed. The 5th installment could be M*A*S*H.

I use the dashboard mounting disk that game with Nuvi. Just like the old suction cup darts I played with as a kid, if you want to make them stick good you have to lick them. It also means no want wants to borrow my Nuvi.

Congrats on your 1000 milestone. I’m glad I could be there for some along the way to 1000.

Congrats on 1100. I can’t wait to walk the plank on this one.

That looks like an item you’d say, why didn’t I think of that. I may have to purchase one of those.

How about equipment to add to this discussion. I bought a paddle from Dicks just because I was itching to get out on the water. Does anyone have good recommendation on paddles. Name brand, length, single piece, two piece etc. Some of the paddles I saw were half of what I paid for the kayak.

According to an article I read it recommended a 240 cm paddle for my height (6’3″) but another said because of my height I should have no trouble reaching the water and recommended a 210 cm. I went with the 225.

I am by no means well versed on kayaks. I just bought my first one (maybe only one) this year. I got the Old Town Dirigo XT120 in Sept. My dad has the Pelican 100 and I found it a bit tippy. Of course it was my first time in a kayak when I tried his so that may be why. I only had mine out once and found it more stable and easier to keep on line. It has one fairly large dry storage compartment and a small dry compartment right in front of you. Great for storing your gps. I was going to post a link to some of the material I read but Lostby7 beat me to the one I was thinking about. If you want to give mine a try feel free to borrow it any time.

I DVR’d it and will have to check it out when I get time.

You forget who I went with. He was playing in the water like a kid and I was trying to keep up with him. He kept trying to fill my boots.

Sorry for getting off topic. About the only thing I’m getting for geocaching is an Ipod Touch. I’m going to use it to organize series and some puzzle solves. I’m also looking at getting a Carhartt coat. If it’s tough enough for wolves it should stand up to some of the dumb things I do caching.

I was thinking the same thing. I could have used a pair of chest waders. The kayak wasn’t going to work across the marsh. A pair of chest waders would have saved me some ribbing by BakRdz at Trout Haven. He had chest waders I had hip boots. I had to hold on to them l like an old man with stretched out support socks. A few more inches and it would have given blue b**** a new meaning.

Thanks everyone it was quite the adventure. I haven’t corrupted Stubbs yet she was in school. If she was along I would have waited until the ice was 2 ft thick before risking her out there. I think it was about this time last year when I did Wet Maze and that wasn’t quite frozen yet either. I guess the drive to find a lonely cache first makes me do stupid things.

Congrats on your milestone. While caching without a gps is amazing in itself the caches you choose to do really blows my mind.
