There was a recent post on the geocaching.com forum with pictures and steps that work for both Garmin Mapsource routes and Magellan Mapsend routes. This is the best description on how to do it I’ve seen. Requires GSAK.

I prefer the ‘second method’ as outlined in
the post.

If they don’t have plans for it already:

Next Phase – Connection to PDA (like PPC via cable or integrated) so that media (movies, pictures, sounds) can be presented based upon GPSr detected location.

Next Phase – Cell Phone/WAP/GPSr integration so same media can be sucked out of the air, can be dynamic so special activities/deals/commercials etc. can also be presented.

Next Phase – Feedback on tour (ie stayed longer here, bought lunch there) AKA big brother

Some thoughts…

• If you keep it alive, the special information should not be in a log but on the cache page itself. If nothing else, you should highlight the fact that the cache is not at the listed coordinates.
• If you keep it alive, special equipment would now be needed to retrieve.
• But, the new location hasn’t gone through the validation process. Is the new location private, yadda, yadda, yadda?
• You can’t maintain it, so until someone can … wait do I hear a bugle playing taps.
• Bottom line, place a new cache box at the old location and remember you have some garbage to pickup downriver.

I found this idea on the gc.com boards. He does it by setting the starting address and ending address to be the same. I remember when I used to be this sneaky.

Instructions are the same as above for adding to GSAK.
