Yes, I do apologize for the Adopt A Highway Mess. They had some changes at the DOT who were working with this, and I had sent over 30 Emails, and had two replied to. Finally about three Months ago, I had them send me one roll of Clear Plastic Bags. That is it. I have contacted them about the Vests, and the Flags that they normally give out for the helpers to wear, and the “Slow Down” Flag that you are to put on the Adopt a Highway Sign to let people know that you are working. I got one email back from the DOT last week, and it said they were not proving the vests, or the flag in the future, but would see what they could do… I guess that is where out Tax Payer Dollars go!

Yes, I do want to get this going, and have plans to publish a CITO Event for April for that stretch of Highway.

This entire project has been just like pulling teeth. No replies to emails, or Voicemails.

I was told last January that there was going to be a new person of contact for the Adopt A Highway program at the state level, and that he would be responding to me.

15 emails later, I finally get a reply about the Vests, and Signs. The Plastic Bags, are in my possession for the CITO Event.

When we did it back in 2007, we parked at the End of Lineville Road. There used to be a Tavern there, but it had burned down sometime in the past. We were able to park in that old Parking lot, if you would call it that. Mostly Trees, and such there now. I think our total mileage for that day was about 7 Miles.

And that was all across Ice, which means, you are not taking full strides……

The ice when we went was about three feet thick.

in reply to: Do you agree with our actions of the past year? #1920610

I do think that as a whole, the WGA has done quite a bit in the last year. It put on Several Great events, Helped out with some community involvement, and education projects.

I think More transparency as to what goes on “Behind the Scenes” has help many member see what is being worked on, and what has been done.

In general, I do think the WGA has done a great job this last year.

in reply to: Should the WGA produce a 2010 geocoin? #1920582

I do agree with the Previous posters, that at this time, I do think it would be a good Idea to do a 2010 Geocoin.

I would like to see it go out to the members again to get design submissions. We have gotten some great ones in the past, and I have no reason to think that this would not continue.

I would also volunteer to help where, and when able to to get the coins, Packed, and shipped to the people that purchase them.

I don’t feel that we would get stuck with alot of extras. I have had several folks ask me when the Next Geocoin will be coming out, so I don’t think having extras would be a problem.

To answer the first question, I do not think the Moderation has to get stronger. I do think that the Good will rise, and the Bad will fall. This is with everything. Much the same with kids bullying at school. If you don’t let it be known that it bothers you, They drop off, and go somewhere else to try and get a reaction from others.

For the second question, I do beleive what Utah has there is well written, but I do not believe we have to be that strong.

There was a Off-Topic area where people can talk about anything they want. Does not even have to be about geocaching. And if members do not want to read what is in that forum, they do not have to. I am a member of several other forums, that can get much worse than this. These forums are pretty tame by comparison, and I don’t feel that it gets too carried away.

in reply to: WGA Events #1920495

As a Board member, This past year, I attended all but the Regional CITO Event in Wausau.

I was Chairperson for the WGA Campout at High Cliff State Park. I helped to Hide Temporary caches, worked with campers upon arrival at the Event, helped to clean up the shelter throughout the weekend, and helped with the Pancake breakfast on sunday, as well as cleaning up after the event on Sunday.

I helped out at the WGA Picnic at Lake Wissota State Park. I helped where,k and when needed.

I also helped out the entire weekend at the West Bend Cache Bash. This included, helping with Coordinate Downloads, cleaning up, Helping out at the Pancake Breakfast, as well as cleanup afterwards.

I was unable to attend the Regional CITO Event in Wausau.

If elected, I will again, be making all the WGA Events, and the WGA Sponsored Regional events that I am able to.

in reply to: Will You Be At The Board Meeting #1920503

Yes, I will be there. That goes without saying!

in reply to: Disgruntled WGA Members #1920366

Dean, I appreciate your comments, and concerns. With any social group, you are going to have people that come, and go. This is exactly what has happened in the several amateur radio clubs I belong to, as well as the Riflle club that I am a member of. While we as a board strive to please everyone, that is just not possible. The BOD has output a newsletter several times over the year, that has alot of information about the items that the BOD is working on, and talking about, as well as upcoming events that the WGA is hosting, or involved in. I am sorry that you have choosen not to renew your membership in the forums, I have enjoyed talking to you, and you have some great ideas.

Yes, i do agree that communication is important, and the board has been much better at that through the use of the newsletter.

in reply to: Kids and Caching. #1920357

Mr. Greenthumb, thank you for bringing this up. In the past, the WGA, has had a couple of kids friendly caches, but there can always be more. I personally have not had alot of oppurtunity to cache with children, but can full understand where you are coming from. In the past, we have done 5 gallon bucket sized caches for children. Games could also be added to the WGA events to keep children more entertained.

In general, yes, I do think the WGA does represent the entire state of Wisconsin. Yes, Alot of our events are in the southern regions due to population density. We have had events further north, and they were less attended because people do not want to travel that far from home. We voted at board meeting, to move the Two main Events around to the Four quadrants of the state, and this will help to get more people involved from the four corners of our state.

We are always looking for members to help out with the Events that the WGA Puts on.

in reply to: Help in Green Bay area #1920173

I would be interested in helping, but we definetely need some more information. I don’t think Paying to set up a Booth is such a great deal fro us to get involved in.

in reply to: Milwaukee County Caches #1920239

The reviewers have had conversations with Milwaukee County Parks, and they results have been very favorable. I feel that this is a Reviewer situation to handle, and not a WGA Board member.

In reading the guidelines, they do not appear to be that far off of what Geocaching.com states in their cache placing guidelines.

I am sure, that if after the three year time period, if you discussed it witht eh parks Department, there would be no problem in allowing it to remain,

Another Great Event. Looking forward to next year!!!

in reply to: Logging Temps at WGA run events #1919979

As was previously stated, Yes, this was brought up to the general membership for a vote, and the membership voted to not allow logging of temp caches on the WGA Sponsored event pages. There are caches out there, that allow temps to be logged, so that workaround has been in place for quite some time.

If the cache is not published on http://www.geocaching.com, I see no reason to log it multiple times unless the cache owner allows it, or encourages it.

My thoughts on this was, and still is no.

in reply to: Suggestion for next BOD – a Volunteer Committee #1919819

I do agree with you, that this is a good Idea. In years past, the BOD had attempted this, and was meet with very little support from the General Membership. Hopefully with the sport maturing, this will change, and more would be willing to help. Thank you Mike for Stepping up, and offering to help.
