Way to go you two. A couple nice milestones!

Hacked my Nook after work today. (It’s pretty much a matter of following the directions these days.)

Now it can run as an android tablet but still as a plain nook. I installed the Kindle app and have confirmed I can read the book. A bit of effort to be able to read a Kindle book on it, but not bad to have a cheap low power consumption android tablet.

(And yes, cgeo works on it. Not ideal since it is in greyscale, and has no GPS… but it works.)

Got the kindle format without discount, but at full price it is still cheap. Now I just need to hack my nook touch so I can read kindle books on it.

I miss diving. Been many years since all my gear went up in flames in my parents’ cabin.

Congratulations! With 1000 under your belt, you should have some pretty good ideas for placing your caches I bet.

I have one of the $10 pair from geocaching.com. They are thin like these but it is surprising how much heat loss even these thin gloves prevent vs bare skin. They aren’t enough on their own for really cold days of course.

For these really cold days, I’ve taken the advice in this thread and picked up a pair of chopper mitts to wear over the gloves. I like the little rubber nubs along the palms of the $10 pair that help grip devices, but that also makes them a little more difficult to jam into the choppers. So one of $5 pair I just ordered were for me for these frigid days.

Ordered a pair last time, they came today. Great timing. Ordered two more for family.

Sorry (almost) to revive this tread. Since flagging an item as missing only affects it until found again, what’s the harm of marking TBs as missing? I’m not saying it is your *responsibility* as a CO to flag them, but if you personally know it is gone due to maintenance or if someone you trust tells you it is missing, why not flag them?

So far we’ve “found” more missing TBs than present ones. Most of the missing ones had log entries in the cache log from months (if not years) ago. The most recent note on some TBs have been “not in the cache” and were months/years old. So clearly the owners aren’t going to flag them as missing.

I don’t want to seem like I don’t appreciate COs! I’m planning to place my first as soon as I feel comfortable I can do everything right and make it worth people’s time to find it. I sure don’t plan to go visit it every week or every time someone reports a TB as missing. Multiply that by a hundred caches and I can understand why COs wouldn’t want to be flagging TBs all the time.

Still, one of the caches I want to find as soon as the snow goes down was selected because of one of the TB in it. It happens to have a mission that I am in the position to really help with. It’ll be a little sad if it isn’t there. (Still will be a fun find I’m sure.)

After Saturday’s outing I ordered a pair of touchscreen gloves. Since they didn’t look all that warm I didn’t think they’d be a huge help. I hadn’t thought of wearing mitts over them though. Thanks for the tip!

I didn’t really like the idea of hand warmers anyhow. Seems like it would get a little pricy and, if nothing else, be a bit wasteful.

Core temp wasn’t a problem. Feet and everything else was pretty toasty. Just handling my phone, trying to get containers open and handling all the trinkets inside really cooled down the hands fast… and with my gloves they stayed cold until we got back to the car.
