We have a cruise booked this year and have already found that there are caches at all 4 of the destinations, plus the departure city. It seems that the locals in a few of the locations know of the caches and know what a GPS unit looks like so they can offer some help
We are still 50/50 on going. I agree with you and crippler about meeting for a meal, we did it at MWGB and it was very nice.
How it has changed us, well my wife reconnected with a former neighbor of hers (by a fluke she saw her pic on GC) and we ended up going to South Carolina to visit her and did the Delorme Challenge.
We have found many great spots we never knew existed in Wisconsin. We would have never discovered St. George, Utah (got sick of gambling on vacation in Vegas so we went do a new state), now we are considering moving there
We would have never found a reason to walk backwards up the downtown street of Waukesha (hey is very cold) during the Waukesha Jambore Event.
We would have never meet some of the great people we have in other parts of the state who are as passoniate about this as we are.
Before caching winter time was stay at home and vegitate, now it is hey we only need 5 more for 1200 and there is a new 5/5 published, and yes we are going to tryIf I tattoo a Travel Bug on my ankle..no wait somebody has done that already. Best of luck on the trip and the other reason you two are taking the break from our fine Wisconsin Weather
I know where it is. We were nearby the area this year and even bought the coords with us but we went in a different direction and did other caches
My thought would be in the March-April time frame of 2010. We would be looking at cruises that would leave from a Florida port. From Miami we have seen Eastern Caribbean trips that include stops such as the Bahamas, Beileze, Mexico and Houdouras. Western trips including the Bahamas, Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands and other stops. These are generally 7 night cruises and can range from $475 per person for an inside cabin (note cabins are double occpancy). This does not include any air to the port but I suspect if we get enough interest we could get a group rate.
Now I am not suggesting that all of us would have to do inside cabins but that is a starting point. I just looked at one that was the Eastern Destination as described above that is $1200 per person for a mini-suite so if you wanted to bump up your accomitations there would be that option.
Additionally, if you have any questions about cruising, we have done one and soon our second, ask we maybe able to help answer them.
If I get 10 seriously interested parties I will start communications with a Travel agent and see what we can do
Ok mine is not a great EC but it is one I will never forget. GC1GRPB Cream City EarthCache. I was out making run at Gold Level when I wen tot do this one. The cache owner states he has the permission to use this area. However it seems the guy who gave the okay had a habit of doing this type of thing and not telling anybody, and to make matters worse he has since retired.
So, here I am ignorant of this, go to GZ and get the info (by the way some great history here) and I am taking a picture to post when a car pulls up ans starts asking questions. You know the usual, what are you doing type questions. Then the whole thing goes bad, see the cache is at one of the old buildings behind the VA Hospital and I am trespassing on Government property. Oh and he is Homeland Security.
Additionally he informs me that the photo I had just taken could subject me to arrest. He demands the name of who placed the cache and as you all know we never use our names in our ID’s, well I knew whose name was listed as the cache owner, but I didn’t think Pawn of Chaos was the right answer to give. Thankfully I met the cache owner recently and was able to give a first name.
Now I suspect this guy was waiting out his days to retirement and guarding buildings that have not had any activity in 30 years is pretty boring so I suspect I was his entertainment for the day. But after 45 minutes I had to delete the picture from my camera and was told to leave. Which I promptly did.
I have been approached by police officers in the past caching and they have always been pleasant in their approach. Not this guy, but then how many of us can say we have been detained by Homeland Security.
The cache owner has disabled the cache as he locates a new spot for it, me I will never forget this one
I have done 2 of the 3 got the FTF on the Tamarack Swamp. Maybe when the tempeture gets up a little I will go for the last one
I will add them to my list. We also lost one in the Miller Park this weekend
Yes TyeDyes Margaritaville is one of our favorites. Absolutely laughed at its uniqueness
If you are so opposed, why not get a few nominations and run for BOD? Frankly this whole thing is tiresome, dont we have better things to spend time on.

Having attended events in other states (Minnesota, Indiana and Georgia) I can say that it is fun meeting with like minded people who outside your normal circle (WGA in this case)
One of the things I will never forget about cahcing is at the Georgia Event when they were doing a demonstration on vemonous snakes and place a rattler on the table my wife and I were sitting at, needless to say we moved quickly.
That being said I dont know what we will be doing in April, but I would think there would be a good chance we could attend (hey its only a 5 hour drive). If WGA members attend one thing I recommend is take your WGA nametags to wear, they will get noticed@LDove wrote:
Shameful plug, forget ’em both and come to the Cache Ba$h instead – ha! 😳
Cache Bash is 30 minutes from my home, its a no brainer. Trying to decide which of the other to do. Didnt include Cache Bash since I think it should be maniditory for Wisconsinites

Of course I will have to find someplace that a EarthCache could go to tie it in to the theme (maybe place an EC and the cache near each other).
That is exactly what I did with my own EC challenge. GC1A1Q8 It’s right next to a spring EC belonging to Auntienae.
I know I found it at a function I attended in the area, with T&B and DRHaas. I signed it but have not claimed the find since as of that time I had only found 2 (one being the spring you mention) and I still dont have the appropriate finds to claim it yet. Maybe Saturday
I wanted to say Thanks to Everybody for their input. I honestly didn’t know if we could do something like this but it seems I need to find a spot for a ammo can in the near future.
Of course I will have to find someplace that a EarthCache could go to tie it in to the theme (maybe place an EC and the cache near each other).
In the meantime I have to go get six to get my Gold Status (which I will do on Saturday depending on the snow) and I will get to writing up some for those counties we are missing.
Thanks Again your help and input is greatly appreciated!!
