I am one of those self proclaimed I hate winter types, and yes I have lived here my entire 44 years. We have been caching a little over a year and aside from Fall I think I enjoyed winter caching the most.
Everybody posted many good tips, the one I would add is I would run a PQ of all caches found in the week prior within a 25 mile radius from my house. This way the ones that were not winter friendly I would hopefully have removed from my list to start. Both the Military History and the GA series area good. I would recommend both, but they both have little problems. They are both very spread out. One of the commanders in Military history likes to go awol, and with the GA series one of the caches is missing the answer to the final (or did when I did it).
Make sure all commanders are up and running first before doing Military History and for GA have a phone a Friend or try all 10 possible locations.Card Sharks in West Bend is a nice series also
Thanks everybody. ThePharmGirl we decided to work on hers for 1100 since she gave me a little grief Halloween about not doing her puzzles. Truthfully we are trying to get to 100 puzzles and after her teasing it became a mission to clear hers out (only 61 more puzzles to go)
To those we have cached with we have enjoyed that time and hope to do it again in the future. To those we have not cached with we hope to one day do so.
Kevin do you have any news? I haven’t heard anything about storks.Every time I see that they have hit another milestone all I can say is WOW. You two are an inspiration to many of the cachers who have met you
My 2 choices, South Carolina (we were there last April) nice and warm but still not humid and a decent caching community there. I see Dead People by the Lake on the SC/GA border is a multi that supposedly takes 6 hours, they rave about that one down there, we did not do it but have considered returning to that area for that cache and grabbing our last few counties.
Other choice..VEGAS, in a 2 1/2 hour car drive (plus caching time) you can hit California, Nevada (Red Rock Canyon NE of Vegas would take care of any Trekkin urges), Arizona (Virgin Gorge, Zuma recently raved about it) and Utah. We are going back later this month and will most likely not even gamble (ok may one us not gambling) and want to try to get 50 in each Nevada and Utah.
GSAK Doesnt use the GC number when you download. So you end up with the following :
GC11METR 21-Trunk Salute
GC10K05 American Freedom
GCZB8G A Number of Movies – Magnificent Seven
GC13XF3 Aqua Spot
GCVWDA A Scout is .. Brave
GCVK8K Beach Tree
Become
21TRNK
AMERCN
NUMBRF
AQUSPY
SCOTSB
BECHTRAs you see caches that start words like A are treated a little differently (I see it with The and I also), but I always do a GSAK printout also. It is the only paper I take as everything else is paperless.
Only other thing that maybe worth mention is you use a Magellon (sic) I strictly use Garmin so I dont know if that may cause a difference, but I suspect not and certainly would be worth a trial download
Only way to solve this I can think of …………….buy a Garmin
Just kidding, no one else said it yet
Barry of sweetlife
Only problem with your answer Barry is that this happens with the Yellow Etrexs. They only accept a 6 digit GC number, now that many GC numbers are 7 digits it drops the last number. Real problem when you are doing a series and they have successive numbers.
Best solution I have found GSAK, because it gives the cache an unique 6 letter name. Of course I could upgrade my unit but $30 for GSAK compared to $300 or more for a upgraded unit, GSAK fit the budget better
We had just been caching about a month by October 17, so roughly 950 since that date. But like some others we are slowing down also so as we are looking more for the quality of the hides and not the quantity. But after we complete blackout then we will most likely pick the speed back up, but not like some of the others (T&B, Zuma, DRHAss to name a few)
If you have some TBs that you have ready to go by mid November we can get some out to Nevada & Utah. Just message me if interested
Congrats-I am sure I remember one or both of you saying school would slow you down-guess not
Birdin’ keep us in mind on that one. We would not be able to that area until around 6:30. Biggest thing right know is how my ankle is. Dr. said 4 weeks but between my shoe and brace I can pretty much keeping it from moving around much. We have gone pretty stir crazy just missing 1 weekend of caching, so the need to feed the caching bug will have to be addressed soon. Man can not live on 1/1’s (ok most of us can’t)
Silly question to Zuma or Trudy & the Beast. Last year when I took this route between Mesquite & St George the Virgin Gorge was under construction. That is the road and not the Gorge. The views were great then but you had a lot of construction equipment spoiling the views also. Please tell me the construction is gone
Virgin Gorge not River of Virgins Furfool. A great diversion fromVegas
Looks like it would be a fun try. Maybe next time I am up in Green Bay. Congrats
Congrats on the number 2 ranking!!
Glad you enjoyed Vegas. That area is so nice to cache in because it is so different than our lush green enviroment here.
Please email me any killer have to do caches out there as we are going in November -
