#41? Is there an indication somewhere in the profile of how old your ID is? If so, I never knew this.

I could have started this as a “Where Were These Photos Taken?” but, with recent interest in Authentic photos I will show some like this with some Historic interest.

A fellow Air Force Buddy sent these to me, taken with an old KODAK BOX CAMERA. Naturally you would have to be old enough to remember your History and maybe even had owned an old Brownie Box Camera.

While the photos were indeed taken during the Pearl Harbor attack, they were not all taken by the same photographer or with a Kodak Box Camera. It’s sort of a partial internet myth that’s been floating around. For more information: http://urbanlegends.about.com/library/bl_pearl_harbor7.htm

I remember finding a traditional geocache in that area near the falls a few years back. It’s a very interesting area to hike around. However, (if memory serves correctly) a few weeks after I was there someone was hiking or climbing along the river and fell and sustained some pretty bad injuries, which freaked out Brown Co. officials about the geocache there.

We find walking in the woods to seek a cache interesting enough without having to interact with virtual characters along the way or play a game that’s one more step removed from reality than hunting tupperware in shrubbery already is.

🙂 I had to smile when I read this. I thought I was alone in my opinion when I shake my head over the complications and competition people seem to want to infuse into what started out as a simple activity that got people into the woods. OK… so maybe I’m still in the minority but at least I’m not alone.

I was able to change the cache type because I’m one of the reviewers.
Even though this is in a heavily visited area, there haven’t been many finders yet so I’m not messing up too many people’s stats. And if people are that concered about stats being messed up they need to lighten up somewhat.

Um, that third statement was editorial opinion. 😛

Very cool. I was wondering when they were going to photograph Milwaukee. I looked at my office and my parking lot and it looks like they must have been there on a weekend. They also did my street residence, but so far I haven’t seen anyone I know walking or driving in the street.

So what’s the story? Who took the photos and how did they make it into the Web site?

I knew we would have some experienced health care types speak up. Thanks for your input. Even if we don’t look into obtaining an AED, the WGA might still look into sponsoring CPR/AED training. True, it’s already available to most of us at one time or another, but WGA sponsorship would encourage more members of our organization to consider getting training and might help mitigate the cost for some.

My demand for Milwaukee has been entered. Thanks for the heads-up.

Waiting for shameless Navicache plug from Rogheff 🙄

Listing on Navicache would, of course, eliminate the problem of proximity. It would also eliminate the problem of people finding it.

    LOL! 😛

in reply to: When bears attack! – Next on WGA #1884087

I’ve seen lots of bears over the years. Most of them out West but some in Minnesota and Wisconsin. Last August Mary and I encountered a bear while hiking along a wooded trail on Sand Island. I saw it before it saw me so we stopped and stared, then it noticed us and stared back at us. Finally I yelled a bit and it ran off.

in reply to: How many caches in WI? #1884059

If you read my blog http://iowaadmin.blogspot.com/search?q=stats+very+interesting , you saw stats about recent growth in number of caches in Iowa. Here are the equivalent stats for Wisconsin:

    #Caches on May 20, 2007: 6,098
    #Caches on Jan. 30, 2008: 7,724
    Gain during that period: 1,626
    Percentage increase: 26.7%
    Caches /1,000km²: 45.5
    Caches /100,000 population: 139.0
