Many snowmobilers are not members of a local snowmobile organization or the Association of Wisconsin Snowmobile Clubs, yet they share in the benefits that those organizations work to ensure and provide. The same applies for hunters and Ducks Unlimited or Wisconsin Deer Hunters Association, ATV riders and the Wisconsin ATV Association, and so on. Just because you sometimes choose not to be a member, it doesn’t mean you are not benefiting from the work being done by those who choose to join, belong and consistently contribute.
Last year we asked for your opinion on logging temporary caches at WGA events. Most of you who voiced an opinion said you would like to be able to log each temp cache. The board has listened and voted to adopt the following policy for WGA events where temp caches are placed:
# The WGA encourages each geocacher present for the official event photo (traditionally at 5pm) to log a “find” for the Event itself by logging “has attended” on the event webpage.
# The WGA shall neither require nor forbid anyone from logging temporary caches at any of our official events.
# The WGA will allow geocachers to log a “find” for any cache that geocachers have actually found. Admittedly, we are not able to police those logging caches or verify that geocachers have actually found the caches. We are using the honor system here and will assume that our fine members will not abuse it.
# All geocaches hidden at our events will follow the guidlines as set forth at http://www.geocaching.com for cache placement. However, exceptions will be made for the proximity and the obvious temporary nature of the event hides.

WGA SecretaryA note to several WGA members who have been nominated but whose names don’t yet appear on the ballot:
As WGA Secretary and commissioner of the 2006 election, I’m sending an email to each person nominated to ask whether you wish to run for a board position. I have not heard back from 6 of you (two others have replied to say you are still considering whether or not to run). If think you may have been nominated — or even if you are unaware you may have been nominated — and your name doesn’t appear on the ballot web page ( http://wi-geocaching.com/elections/ ) please check to make sure the e-mail address you provided with your WGA membership registration is correct and that you have checked that email account recently.

There is way too much brick throwing around here whenever anyone voices their opinion.
Either offer something to the discussion or keep your bricks in your own yard.
Of course that is just my opinion.
There are very few who actually get into these discussions for that exact reason.
Perhaps there would be more people participate if they felt that they could say something without someone telling them they shouldn’t say it.I believe the discussion was:
What would happen if…..
Jeff, my apologies if you felt there is a brick contained in my message. Just because someone disagrees with you does not mean he or she is “throwing bricks” and saying you should not express your opinion.

Thanks for the link, Randy. SLAGA has put together a very nice web page with links to their audio, photo and video files.
(I had to chuckle when I saw that there’s a 45-minute podcast featuring 3 guys sitting in a fast food joint talking about geocaching. Scintillating!)
What would happen if we stopped tossing around the term “lame” to cast a dark label on any cache that, according to our personal judgment, we deem not worthy of our time even though the very nature of geocaching is a “pastime” hobby.
Well said, Jeff. The only thing I might add is that elections should not necessarily be based on geocachers who make the most posts in the forums or geocachers who have the most finds. Being on the board should not be seen as an affirmation of popularity in the geocaching community. It would be better for all members if board members have an open mind (no single-issue agendas, please), a willingness to pitch in and work (not just offer opinions) and a reputation for cooperation rather than confrontation.
Let me add my personal thanks for allowing me to serve you on your board. I’m stepping down at the end of my current term to give someone else a chance to contribute. See you at the campout and on the trails!

So how are we supposed to tell him apart from other geocachers?

I approve! Just to explain, I’m not a stickler for political correctness. I posted this in the BOD forum last year. Thanks for sharing it here, Jeff.
Merry Christmas, everyone!
This cache ( http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=43caa598-71f0-4d8f-bef6-28d0138b9ba5 ) is now archived, but it’s in a very nice x-c ski area — the Zillmer Trails in Northern Kettle Moraine.
I skied all over Lapham Peak Park on Sunday. There are a few caches there that could be had while skiing, but I didn’t look that day. The snow was just too good.
Nice job, MB and CB!
I just started using Firefox after having problems with the WinFixer virus in Explorer. One thing I noticed about the forums and the lightbulbs is that to make them work properly, you have to enter the forums through the “front door” instead of a link or a bookmark.
I just dug a little deeper and found info at the Schlitz Audubon Center website: ( http://www.sanc.org/monpro.htm#hheg )
Hangin’ with Hyatt: Extreme Geocaching
Hi folks. Jim here. Seeing as how everybody came out unscathed back in October, the big kahuna is letting me have another geocaching program. We’ve done morning, evening, night, well now it’s in the cold of winter! Dress warm. If you need snowshoes, we’ll give them to you. There will be coffee and hot chocolate when you come back into the building. As always, we’ve got GPS units so you don’t have to bring any, Jim will teach the rookies in the group, and a prize for the winner!

If you placed an order…
A WGA geocoin handling and shipping working meeting was held this morning and into the early afternoon, and all shipments were packaged and dropped at the post office this afternoon.[This message has been edited by kbraband (edited 11-26-2005).]
“k” is the abbreviation for my first name, and I came up with “braband” by loosely basing it on an area/city in Belgium near the border with The Netherlands.
Oh yeah, it’s also my last name. -
