There used to be a geocache hidden on the grounds at the fly-in: OSH Stash (GC73C8). A number of pilots logged it. Looks like it was archived early this year.

Cathunter, you are my new hero! LOL.

And some people talk about others taking things too seriously. Sheez. Arcangl is doing a great service to the WGA by organizing the temp cache hides. I say: Either pitch in to help, offer to help in some other way, or appreciate the effort of others and thank them for volunteering their time. Or better yet, why not all three?

    Who is spearheading this?

I looked over the post and this discussion dates back to 2002. I would hate this to become a dead subject and in two years resurface again. If this project is to go forward WGA must face the fact it will cost a lot of money upfront regardless of a coin having a number, in color, being pressed or casted. Oppss getting off subject… Anyhow I’ am interested and willing to provide my time into the matter. While I don’t consider myself as an expert, I have a pretty good background doing such projects for several years in the Navy.

Sounds like we have volunteers. As I mentioned, it would be great to have someone step forward to spearhead this. I’ll help with the WGA board side of things, but it would be nice to have those of you who are asking for this to follow-up on the details, such as refining some designs, getting quotes, etc.

My 2 cents on the design above: looks good. Can we include a couple of icons that say geocaching and/or Wisconsin? For example (not all of these) trails, trees, lakes, rivers, hills, GPS satellites, cheese, cows.

I have an advance copy of the August issue of Milwaukee Magazine. Mario’s Q’s article about places up north includes Cathedral Pines. After a quick scan, I don’t see any of the other places offered above. Still, it’s an interesting article.

Cachew is chairing this year’s picnic, so if you have suggestions, send them his way.

I know this topic is mainly for fun, but here’s an interesting column to remind us that moderation and having a well-rounded life with different interests and activites is important to our overall well-being: http://www.jsonline.com/lifestyle/advice/jul05/338011.asp

I also suggest approvers ask the hiders if all such markings have been removed, at least for new hiders. An alternative could be to send a reminder to the owner during the approval process.

Those are certainly good suggestions for anyone hiding a geocache. However, the WGA doesn’t want to create new rules. We simply publicize rules established by Groundspeak (geocaching.com) and by various local and state land managers and law enforcement departments.

One exception is when land managers seek help in establishing geocaching policies for the areas they manage. In those cases, we will offer our advice and recommendations on what rules we (the WGA) feels should be implemented by that park or jurisdiction.

We need $ quotes from a couple of sources. It would also be good to have samples that we could look at. Kent or Smokey, can you provide me with the name and contact info for the companies that you know that make these? I think it would be best (but not mandatory) if it’s some company that has already made geocoins for other organizations.

With an outlay in the multiple thousands of dollars, we’ll have to have the individual orders and money in the WGA coffers before we send in an order. It’s doable IF we have enough interest.

    Just giving this a bump.
